We let Tom Davis go for making it to the sweet 16

If anybody likes watching Northwestern’s guards play like they are doing instead of Connor’s superior assist to turnover ratio, then you aren’t a true iowa fan. 🤷‍♂️

but with the new age portal you can build a good team in a few days..

But this is Iowa. Recruits aren’t exactly standing at the door to play for the Hawks. You have to look at Iowa realistically and objectively. We will continue to get some good recruits, but it will get harder and harder to compete with the top programs. I think you are going to see wider separation between the big boys and the rest of us. And, Iowa is in the “rest of us” group. You need to have a coaching staff that is extremely aggressive as far as recruiting is concerned to have a chance of having a very good team year to year. Not happening at Iowa…at least in the present situation.

How did ISU go from 0-18 to sweet16 with a coaching change?

whether its intentional or not, your title is wrong... davis was not fired for getting to the sweet 16. his contract was not renewed going into his last year and was therefore a lame duck. he knew he was gone no matter what he did that season. which happened to be making it to the sweet 16; the only time he did so since his second year here. our new coach, also made it to sweet 16 with SWMS in that year's NCAA, and at the time, you'd hard pressed to find anyone who wasn't in favor of the move.

i, for one, was ready for a change.
Not everyone was ready or clamoring for chg - thus- probably the most consequential decision Bowlsby ever made.

‘Fire’ an accomplished professional, hire a polarizing egomaniac (remember, this as post Ferentz/Stoops and BB got to fly solo on the Alford deal), guy jumps ship ahead of the posse. Then the lick years, and years of rebuilding
