They're all thin and shit. The material feels closer to cheap sweats than denim.

It's the times we live in. Minimize cost and lower quality to increase profit.

What is the brand to buy nowadays?

Slave laborers used to assemble them need to work with lightweight, thinner material. There tiny hands and perpetually weakened condition will not allow them to work with a heartier denim.

I go with Wrangler for kicking around the house and yard, Nautica and Tommy Hillfiggar (sp?) for going out.

At work in the field....
Wrangler
Carhart

In the office or out...
Lucky
American Eagle
BKE

There's not been one cut of denim yet that has been able to withstand the potency of my farts. I'll hang up and listen, big denim.

And another thing! Seriously, can I find a pair without the whiskering at the crotch and the prefaded thighs (and maybe another couple worn-looking spots in assorted other locations)?

Oh, and whattup with sizes? I know Americans (including me) are fatter than they used to be, but I can't find a 36 inseam anymore to save my life. AnythingX36 is nonexistent. Hell, when I hit my peak height, I had a pair of 29X36 Levi's. I swear. In ninth grade I even saved up for a sweet pair of Marithe Francois Girbauds that fit like a glove over my bony ass and hit the floor in stockinged feet. Going to the Levi's website, even they, in their Big & Tall sizes, have a paltry selection of sizes in stock.

Do I need to pony-up for this selvedge horseshit? And get them custom made by a Japanese tailor?

I'm miss the guess pascal 075.. Fit my fat ass better had leg room

Levi's 550 "Relaxed Fit" seem to closest to the Levi's I wore in my youth in terms of denim quality.

The Levi's 505 jeans suck and have the thin denim (almost stretchy) and strange "wear spots" you describe.

Buyer beware.

maybe I'm in the minority, but I like the thinner stuff Levi's has out. They breathe better and my hams aren't as sweaty if I'm doing something around the house.
If I were to be doing some actual manual labor I could see where it would be annoying, but for the regular Joe they're just fine/even better.

I wear the 550s and Haven't noticed a difference. In high school and college I wore the 560's but had bigger thighs at the time. Other than that, same fit and quality it's always been.

I agree, I wear 36 inseam as well and have issues finding them. I buy them online and have better luck finding them for some brands.

I'm not fussy about my jeans, but I get 36" inseams at Theissens (38" waist) TrueBlue is the brand name. On sale for ~$15/pair. It works for me.

i picked up my first pair of levis since high school last summer (a pair of 559s) at Theisens. They seem to be pretty thick material and good quality.

I typically just get jeans whenever they go on sale at old navy.

I buy nothing but Carhartt. Levi's feel like wearing sandpaper nowadays.

And the trick to making clothes (jeans especially) last longer are front loader washing machines. Anything with an auger will tear your jeans apart over time.
