It isn't cheaper to eat junk and/or fast food. People are stupid and lazy, that's the problem.

I have made a good meal for our family of four MANY times for $10-$15 that would be $25-$30 for fast food and way more than that to get something else delivered.

Pork (excluding bacon) and chicken is very reasonable right now on a a per lb basis. Anything based on beef will have an increased cost on a meal basis. However I showed earlier this year on a thread how you can be extremely economical on meal prep with very good meals if willing to put a little time in. I can effectively create 3-4 meals (in bulk) for around $30 to $50 for family of 4. We like leftover so it works. Whether you do pulled pork and freeze (can get 10 lb for 1.60 to $2 a lb) and end up with 5lbs of pulled pork. Or Ham at $2 to $2.40 a lb, end up with 6 lbs of edible meat on a 10 lb ham with bone. Between mashed potatoes (5 lb bag) and vegetables. That is a very nice meal prep you can spread out. We generally eat it day of meal prep, day 2, something different day 3, finish up day 4 (72 hours later) - with higher salt content I have had no issues 5-6 days later. Beyond that Im throwing out or had already froze. For chicken, I try to find thighs or chicken legs, they seem to be cheaper than chicken breast by a significant margin. I still find chicken breast on sale that I buy in bulk and freeze for under $3 a lb.

I made a batch of taverns (loose meat, Maid-Rite, pick your term) on Saturday. 2 1/2 lbs of meat and the buns from the bakery were the extent of my cash outlay, less than $20. I had the condiments for the recipe, we had cheap veggies already on hand from Aldi and cheap chips in the cupboard from whomever had the best prices recently. Had our third meal from it last night and the kids still devour it. It can be done.

What you don't realize is Trumps immigration policies (lack of immigrants coming in) was one of the major players in the Covid labor situation. You had a lack of individuals coming in that created a gap already, and then you added in shock employment drop as well. You have to look at the timing of Trumps strictest policies regarding immigration (started in 2019). The other difference is we are no longer talking about limiting workers coming in. We are 1. stopping immigration 2. Removing immigrants. That is a shock policy and if you don't understand that I really don't know what to say. Difficulties with hiring started really at the beginning of 2020, even before Covid start ramping up (Trumps presidency, several older workers dropping out of the workforce) and culminated in 2021 with some of the Biden policies. Continuing payouts, allowing individuals to not work and live off of stimulus and child tax credits. If you really want to discuss these issues I am more than glad to discuss them.

Also if you look at immigration it was increasing drastically during the Trump time frame, it primarily dropped because of Covid and Trumps immigration policies in June of 2019. The cause and effect was the higher prices in 2020 and 2021. Its a lag factor in employment Tornado.

If Trump truly gets rid of a large percentage of migrant workers, which are a high percentage of the work force in meat packing plants, and farm workers that harvest all kinds of vegetables and fruits, who will replace these workers, and at what price . . . and how much will the prices increase at the grocery store. The short sightedness of these polices and the fact that Conservatives think that Trump will lower inflation is appalling to anyone who has a smidge of intelligence.

Add to this housing prices. A builder friend of mine reminded me that most of the “subs” he uses are from south of the border and busy as hell.. send 20% of them home ( a conservative number), creating more delays in construction and worker shortages… which way are housing prices going to go? Slow down the housing industry is one if the surest ways to being in a recession… and one of the slowest ways to recover from a recession.

You are a moron, you said every administration has illegal immigration. Secondly, if this is as big of deal as you claim it to be why didn't the republicans pass the border bill in early 2024? Republicans could still do more bills later. If it was truly as bad as you claim then you allowed it to continue. I never said no cartels, but in general immigrants are better citizens than regular citizens. There wasn’t a “ shortage” of immigrant workers because the was no wholesale deportment of immigrants..it was mostly debated in Congress … the blame for the immigration mess lies with Congress

… and primarily the MAGAts in Congress as they have REFUSED to seriously seek solutions to the problem. Immigration quotas have been unworkable for over 30 years now as the law on the books does not reflect the reality of the immigration demands placed on America.
