Not an Iowa State fan, so not too concerned with the BTT, although winning a game or two for once would be nice.
Sweet 16 will be a solid season, anything elite 8 and above will have been a spectacular season. That's how I see it anyway.

If Fran fails to at least make the Sweet 16, there will be a lot of grumbling. It's unfair to pin Iowa's lack of success in March over the past thirty years on Fran, but many fans will see the season as an epic fail if Iowa doesn't make it to the second week.

Everyone roots for their own team, me included, but I would like to see some Big Ten team, any Big Ten team, win the NCAA tourney. The 20+ year drought is ridiculous. And multiple Big Ten teams in the final four would be nice as well.
Before the season started: Big 10 Regular Season Champion or Sweet 16.

As others have said, the Sweet 16 is a must. I might be a little disappointed if that’s as far as they go but I’d accept it.

Fairly or unfairly, I generally remember teams based largely upon how they finish. 2004 football team vs. 2015 football team. For me to really think back fondly about this season with the expectations going in, I would be disappointed with less than the BTT finals appearance and a Sweet 16 run. But if they make a Final Four run, I wouldn't even care if they had gotten bounced in their first BTT game. I'm not old enough to remember Lute's teams, and I didn't really watch games until Davis's first year, so a Final Four trip would be the best finish in my memory.
Agreed. Fran's tournament teams ran into some juggernauts so its hard to be too mad. If they have another early exit as a 2/3 seed and tons of talent - its really hard to believe more excuses.
Once the NCAA tourny gets started, I'm sure I will be disappointed no matter when their next defeat occurs.

I don't think of a season being a success or failure. Since I'm just a fan, I think more in terms of happy or sad.
If the Hawks get a double-bye in the BTT, then I sincerely hope they can win a game. Not winning a game would be "sad me", winning two would be "happy me".
If they do win at least a game in the BTT and nab a 2 or 3 seed in the Dance, then I sincerely hope they make the Sweet 16. Not making the S16 would be "sad me", making it to the E8 would be "happy me".

I hope they play to their NCAA tournament seed. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
Honestly we just don't know that do we? I mean probably not, but consider the numbers. We currently have the highest scoring trio to play together since Roy, BJ, and Ed and I think their getting close to that. Currently #1 all time scorer, #1 all time assist man, #1 all time three point scorer, Joe W if he returned next season will join Luka and Jbo as a top 10 or so all time scorer at Iowa. A White Iowa's #3 all time scorer played for Fran as did Dev Marble another top 10 guy. Peter Jok and J Utoff both had huge senior years and were 1st team all BIG and both were at least semi finalists for the Wooden award. Just saying Fran system and free flowing offense lends itself to guys scoring and having the ability to put up big numbers. Keegen could certainly in four years be another top 10 all time scorer for the Hawks. Hell NO ONE saw what Luka would become, (except maybe Fran), so who knows. Certainly we run a system that is conducive to individual success.
I wouldn't say they pooped the bed. Injuries and Michigan being really good are 2 huge factors.
Not making it to the S16 would be a bust, sure we would have some good memories of individual regular season records and performances but Iowa BBall is so g’all dam overdue for a deep run. Sweet 16 appearance with a loss may also be a little tough but at least Iowa bball would have got the proverbial monkey off our backs. Final four would be absolutely amazing and it’s realistic.
How is S16 a success for a preseason and currently ranked top 5 team?

With this trio and their accolades .... is exactly why at least a sweet 16 should be realistic
Sweet 16s are earned. There is no “ due date” and certainly no entitlement. UIowa is good enough for a Sweet 16 spot but it has to be earned.

I disagree. If you’re fairly highly seeded the sweet 16 should be a given unless you end up as a lowlight on one shining moment.
This is going to be Frans first team that should be seeded to assume a sweet 16
You have to win two games to get there...that’s my point. There are probably a dozen teams , many seeded lower than Iowa, that can get into the 16...If Iowa gets a decent draw and plays well, it could get there...if Iowa plays better than it has all season, it might make the Final 4...all things are possible with this team...there just might be an Indiana out there in an early round...
