What's best for the B1G? Legends/Leaders or East/West ?

Should the B1G have stuck with the Legends/Leaders in order to have more balanced divisions? Or is East/West better?

Note: I moved Purdue from the Leaders to the Legends and I added Rutgers and MD to the Leaders.

LEGENDS (Team/2015 Record):
Iowa, 12-0
Michigan State, 11-1
Michigan, 9-3
Northwestern 10-2
Nebraska, 5-7
Minnesota, 5-7
Purdue, 2-10

LEADERS (Team/2015 Record):
Ohio State, 11-1
Wisconsin 9-3
Penn State, 7-5
Indiana, 6-6
Illinois, 5-7
Maryland 3-9
Rutgers 4-8

I thought Legends & Leaders was pretty darn good but the one thing I really like about East-West is the geographics. We are playing inter division games against our border rivals every season and then see a few East teams every year (sometimes better/worse).

Check out next year's home schedule. That's off the charts good!

Keep East/West but swap MSU and Purdue. That would be perfect.

That idea is sooooooo short sided, I hate when people bring it up. 10 years ago nobody would have thought of MSU as some national power. In fact their history to Iowa is pretty similar (28 bowls for iowa, 25 for MSU. 680 wins for MSU, 625 for Iowa). The idea of switching them today is fine, but you're a Dantonio jump to the NFL and Harbaugh staying at michigan from going right back to where you were. If you go by the mid-90s pecking order everybody would say flip Penn State and Purdue. These things are cyclical. East-West is fine. This year is just one of those weird ones.

So, this is balanced?

WEST (Team/2015 Record):
Iowa, 12-0
Michigan State, 11-1
Northwestern 10-2
Wisconsin 9-3
Nebraska, 5-7
Illinois, 5-7
Minnesota, 5-7

EAST (Team/2015 Record):
Ohio State, 11-1
Michigan, 9-3
Penn State, 7-5
Indiana, 6-6
Maryland 3-9
Rutgers 4-8
Purdue, 2-10

You would give up your rivalries with Mich, OSU, Penn St? I'm sure you think it would be an easier path for you guys, and probably would balance things out a little, but c'mon!

(BTW, I would be all for it.)

Best thing about the current set up is keeping the natural geographic rivalries. There's no perfect set up, but the way it is now is pretty good.

Why do we need fixed divisions? Couldn't we create schedules each year based on the prior year's finish? The NFL does. Allow each team to keep one protected rivalry and then create the 7 remaining games based on last year's results.

MSU has more of a rivalry with Wisconsin and Iowa than Penn State and Ohio State. The Michigan game could be a 2 years on/2 years off type of deal, like MSU does with Notre Dame.

Natural Order- AKA resources/fan base/geography (i.e. recruiting) look something like this:

1. Ohio State
2. Michigan
3. Penn State
4. MSU
5. Wisconsin/Iowa/UNL
8. Rutgers/Maryland/Illinois/Minnesota
9. Indiana/Northwestern/Purdue

It's goes to 9 conference games next year so pick 8 instead of 7 plus your protected game.
