What's the problem with cargo shorts?

So I'm looking to buy some new shorts. What style is preferred?

Are they the cargo shorts that are oversized and hang off your butt and go all the way to your ankles? Those are trash.

Are they functional ones like for hiking?

Personally, I like the Wrangler Performance Shorts (kind of like these) and I don't care what people think.

Most cargo shorts are heavy cotton. They get to hot for me and tend to promote Monkey Butt, AKA chafing. They also wear out quick and are expensive to wash and dry.

They're fantastic for carrying the poop sacks, treats and pop up water bowl for dog walks....

My go-to is Union Bay (not the shitty version from Costco, the ones they sold on their site were way better; last for years).

i have no opinion on cargo shorts but i'm alarmed by the new trend of pockets in women's yoga shorts/tights. unsightly bulges have begun to appear on the sides (of thighs) as women cram phones, wallets and whatever. i fear that this summer might be less glorious than in the past...
