I keep seeing these threads about how long Joe Wieskamp will be playing for the Hawks. The last one was saying next year would be his last for sure. I love Joe's game and him as a person but let's face facts. Watch a pro game and try to see where he would fit in. I'm hoping that at some point in Joe's life he can fit into an NBA team, but I sure don't see it in the near future.

That's kinda what I was thinking, I love jw's game but to me he's a long ways from being ready for the nba. If he ever will be. I do think he will get better and better and am anxious to see his progress and think he will go down as one of the best to ever wear a hawk uniform.

If you don't see Weiskamp as a legitimate pro prospect in the near future how do you view Oklahoma City's decision to bring him in for a workout in the very recent past?

Nothing mean about being reasonable about the talent of a player you like on your team. I think it's mean to tell someone they have the talent to play in the NBA when it's evident the talent level is over his head. I hope some day to see Joe compete in the league but lets face facts it's a long shot. In the past someone like Bobby H. played for a while but the talent level has raised a quite a bit since then.

Joe will be back in Iowa City soon enough. Great to see he is getting an opportunity to work out for OKC, but a NBA team needs to find guys that can scrimmage against the ones on their 1st rd board.

With 30 NBA teams all trying to bring in players for workouts, they are working around everyone's schedules.

That's not to say OKC isnt also trying to guage their interest in a player for next year's draft.

Not a chance Joe is 1st rd bound this year. It's a good experience for him and will hopefully help him develop in the off season to be more of a focal part of Iowa's offense.

Joe has a bunch of work to do to be ready for NBA level of play. He certinaly has the potential but he really needs to fill out his body if he wants to play at that level.

I respect these kids' dreams of playing in the NBA and I'm sure he wants to get feedback. I just worry about the message it sends to the rest of his teammates. Same with TC and moss last year.

I along with most of the fanbase have no problem when the fball players go cuz most of us agree they are ready. But it's more "are you kidding me?" when we hear of these bball players. Hard to think your teammate is totally committed to Iowa when he's that focused on NBA prematurely.

Agree 100 ... Joe's not going anywhere for at least two more seasons ... The kid is talented ... but the NBA has talent from all around the world oozing in its locker rooms. I think Joe truly wants to learn from the NBA scouts how he can improve his game ... Joe's not leaving any time soon ...

Not buying the idea that Oklahoma City executives reached out and invited Weiskamp to fly down to their facility for practice primarily because they needed to find players who could scrimmage against their other prospects.

Yup. 250+ get drafted each year in football, a number of UDFAs make teams, and guys in the NFL get hurt all the time so there's a lot of turnover in the NFL. The NBA has two rounds in a draft and nearly everyone knows that the second round guys rarely make the team. Hell, the lower tier of the first round barely make teams. The NBA is unrealistic for 99 percent of college hoops players--theyhave a better chance of winning a PowerBall lottery than getting chosen in the NBA's lottery.

He certainly could make it to the NBA some day, but he has nowhere close to an NBA body right now. Weight room and some maturation time are in order.

Paying for a flight to prep for the draft is petty cash for an NBA team's budget.

By the numbers, Joe was not one of the 60 invited to the NBA combine. He also wasnt one of the close to 30 others invited to the G League show case. There are 60 overall that will be drafted in the 2 rounds for the draft. Does Joe have a chance.....sure, but doubtful.

NBA teams know a lot of the underclassman are seeking feedback full well knowing they will likely return to school for another year. Joe is in that group. If OKC invited him, sure they want to see what he brings, it also gives them a chance to work a guy out for next years draft.

Ah no, Joe W will play all 4 years in IC. Unless he spikes like very few have done from Freshman to Sophomore seasons. I think He is very good, no doubt...just not that good.

Can it happen? Absolutely. And lucky us if it happens! Because he would EXPLODE on the B1G next year. Thus making us one of the top teams... But, let us be realistic here....

I Just wish that Tyler Cook & Isaiah Moss would do the same.... There are plenty of years in your tank to play Non-NBA pro ball. However, VERY limit years to be in college.

One question for all posters who went to college; did you enjoy those years? And...once past, can they ever be brought back? That is rhetorical, for most of you...
