This article is spot on! Too bad not everyone is going to see it that way.

Love Jason Whitlock. Smart as heck, extraordinarily in tune with trends in sports and society as a whole, and has the guts to speak the truth. And as for his last line, I don’t see any way the bigots break Caitlin. Kid is tough as nails. My money is on her to ascend to great heights.

Whitlock is like Barkley in that he speaks what he thinks regardless of who it might “offend”. Stupidity is stupidity regardless of the color/creed/ethnicity of who might be engaged in it, and both will point it out.
I was just thinking of Barkley and was wondering what his take on it all was as you’re spot on about him. I don’t always agree with everything he says but he has my respect. What you see is what you get with him and I feel he tries to always be honest and true to himself with people. He backs up his reasoning with facts and logic too while still showing respect to those he disagrees with.

I'm agreeing with the blaze. The apocalypse has begun.

I know and agree, but being on the Blaze will knock down the number of people who will:

a. See it
b. Acknowledge/Agree with it due to where they saw it

The pregame crew addressed it for a few minutes before tonight’s game. Gumbel wasn’t a fan of Reese’s antics but Barkley and Smith kind of cut him off. Barkley repeated the refrain that Caitlin did the same thing vs Louisville but otherwise chose his words carefully.

Yeah probably best for them to not discuss right then. The women’s panel after the game came off looking like a bunch of mean girls. I won’t be watching anymore of them unless it’s an Iowa game that’s for sure. I’d hope Barkley and company wouldn’t say much more without all the facts though and look at how both players conducted post game interviews and social media afterwards as well. That’s just as bad at this point.

I'm a progressive Dem from Iowa, and I agree 100% with Whitlock. Staley making Bluder's bar fight comparison a racial thing was so wrong. Combining criticism of Bluder's bar fight comment with claims her players have been called thugs and monkeys results in many linking Bluder to those comments in some way. If making that claim that her players have been called these vile names, be specific about who made them or where they've been read or heard. Overall, Staley was very unfair to Lisa, the Hawks, and our fans.

I had a chance to watch a recorded sampling of the women's panel today and was not impressed. Carolyn Peck referred to Caitlin as "Carson" while turning to Becky Hammond. Hammond just looked at her seemingly stunned for a couple seconds.

The worst of this is so many people are attacking and smearing Clark in defense of Angel when Clark has not inserted herself into the debate. They have turned Clark into a villain because others take issue with Angel's conduct.
What do they call that? Victim blaming or shaming?

I don’t think they’ll get to Caitlin. She loves playing basketball. Everything else is based off of that. If the everything else goes away she’ll still love playing basketball.

That’s not to say people won’t try to tear her down. There is a weird obsession of some people that if you’re successful you must be broken. I bet right now people are scouring every social media site she’s ever been on or trying to find someone to share their texts with Caitlin, all in the name of trying to bring her down. To find a Gotcha, or I told you so, or at least twist something she wrote into some bastardized racial comment. That’s an industry these days. But those are very small minded people and in the end, it won’t matter.

So, we're making inroads. Starting to realize we are more alike than the media wants us to be.

Mark my words, Caitlin will get the last laugh by the time her Iowa career is over.

Very good breakdown. Dan Patrick also compared Clark to the Tiger effect. Said she's great for the game bringing the viewers but causing jealousy among certain top players because feel like she garners too much attention. DP also said when Iowa made Final 4 this is the best thing for the women's game because you have the face of the game making the Final 4 and he predicted big ratings and Clark delivered. But I'm sure people like Reese and Staley think the ratings would've been the same for Final 4 and title game whom ever they played. Kind of like just like Georgia bragging about being in the most watched 1/2nd rd game ever. Um sorry guys they weren't tuning in to see you that was the Caitlin Clark effect. If Iowa wasn't in the Final 4 and would've been Stanford or L'ville instead I bet those numbers wouldn't have been even half of what they were. It will be curious what the ratings are like next year compared to the 2-3 years after when Clark is gone.

Lastly it is just tiresome the complaints by Staley and Reese about people criticizing them and playing the victim card. As I read in one article yesterday who are these so called people they speak of saying these things? Few trolls on twitter? because you can't find any article, journalist or analyst saying anything remotely close. It is made up BS in their own heads and sorry lot of people aren't buying it.

This article nails it. This whole experience is eye opening for me. As fans, we’ve been watching the whole tourney and know what took place better than a lot of the pundits and people on social media claim to know. I don’t blame people that haven’t been following along claiming that “Clark does the same thing etc.” because that’s exactly what’s been presented to them by ESPN, LSU players, Fox News, CNN, etc. and of course all over social media. Some of the pundits and people on social media are pushing an agenda that’s for sure. But I feel most people have been duped. I would have thought the same thing if I hadn’t watched the tourney after seeing a few of the videos out there.

What I take away from all of this is I will wait to cast judgement or an opinion for that matter, before getting the whole story regarding events like this. The sad thing is not everyone will read this article. Going forward, I will consider how information is presented to me from various sources and when I am able, try to watch the game, listen to the press conference or hearing, read the entire transcript or bill myself, etc. before formulating an opinion. Sadly, it’s up to us to be the real journalists anymore.

as opposed to watching & listing to the left field, woke bullshit on ESPN? The network has become unwatchable.
Nah, I usually never tune into espn unless it’s a game I want to watch. Like you said, it’s unwatchable but not for the same reasons you listed. I see through the veil, if I want to watch highlights of a game. I’ll do so on my phone. But I’m not going to watch the analysis shows, or a full hour of highlights about sports I could really care less about. Sorry I don’t care about golf, tennis, nascar, volleyball, or baseball (only after mid season all star break). Cause most of it is bullshit.

Reactions: Ree4
The people saying Clark did the same thing are either attention seekers or clouded by their fandom for Reese. No intelligent human being can watch what Reese did to Clark, multiple times, and can honestly say it’s the same thing Clark did in the Louisville game. That entire argument and using the race card is mind blowing.

Who would have ever thought a women's college basketball game would get this much attention. Unreal.

Jason's take is great for numerous reasons. One being that he doesnt immediately take the two behaviors and create a false equivalency- they just arent.

I also unfortunately read an article by William Rhoden- the old guy who was at the NY Times forever- who so lazily referred to this as 'vilifying black behavior'.

Caitlin Clark really struck a nerve with her behavior - again this level of response and outrage is pretty remarkable for a tournament that usually has very modest national interest.

There are a lot of racial components to this whole situation. Black commentators have by and large condemned those who have questioned Reese's actions, comparing them to Clarks; one problem here is many stated Clark pulled the YCSM vs SCAR. This just shows that they didn't even see it, have no context, and are just speaking an already determined narrative.

The other racial component, that as to date Whitlock is the only one with the courage to say, is that in the game of basketball, white people often are the victim of racism; anyone who has laced them up has faced it. Listen to the hate on Clark from LSU'S players, the post game interview from Staley, the ESPN crew laughing with Reese regarding her actions in post game, look at all the threads on Twitter regarding Clark..."White hope" "white savior" "that white girl".

No one else in the media is going to risk the backlash to discuss this topic. It's widely accepted that white people get bashed in the basketball community and it's just part of the deal, and if you mention it someone in the crowd will label you a racist.

It's hypocrisy that we all know but just accept as it's too troublesome to discuss.

I've also heard good takes, regarding the situation, from Doug Gottlieb (again, odd right?) and Marcellus Wiley, even though Wiley was still more on the side of "gotta protect your own".

Wiley made a point to disagree with Reese's "unapologetically me/you" comment, saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "You're young, you're going to make mistakes. Don't be afraid to apologize for your mistakes. You learn this as you get older, that's part of life."
