Whitlock: Caitlin Clark is Tiger Woods while Angel Reese is Fuzzy Zoeller

A really interesting/good test I found: have people read the article without telling them who wrote it or JW's background.
I had two people read it without that knowledge and they raised eyebrows. Then I said "he's a former football player and black". They were surprised.

Clark will have to earn her respect on the floor just like Bird did,.. Eventually even the idiots had to acknowledge that the Hick from French Lick had game,.. same thing here.
If I may be so bold, in today's world, even earned respect isn't given between "factions". With the seething divisions in this country, the misinformation that is believed TOO easily by SO many, social crap media being what it is, and the 2.7 second attention span of the vast majority of the populace, facts only get in the way.
If CC hasn't earned respect by what she's done over three years, she never will. Seeing comments that she was "exposed" and "trounced" and the like are obviously laughable. Those folks--and there are many--will never give respect, earned or otherwise. Hell, look at the people on the floor with her.

Love Jason Whitlock. Smart as heck, extraordinarily in tune with trends in sports and society as a whole, and has the guts to speak the truth. And as for his last line, I don’t see any way the bigots break Caitlin. Kid is tough as nails. My money is on her to ascend to great heights.
He has a great pod cast as well. Highly recommended

Not a former pro football player.

Read this morning Jill Biden has invited LSU to the White House. Wants Iowa to come also.
Angel called it a joke. She just can't help herself i guess.

If they had just left it as trash talking it would be over, all the discussion now would be about how women's basketball has been catapulted into relevance. Now it's devolved into this racial/victim nonsense, that doesn't exist in basketball, and it's being spurred on by media types who profit from stoking that pernicious ember. And none of it helps the brand of women's basketball. That's what is so stupid about all of this. So shortsighted. A huge stride forward, and a big step back (for the game). They call that a momentum killer in sports.

Whitlock has become the ultimate race baiter which is why he now writes for the blaze or whoever as he’s been fired from everywhere he’s been. And I really use to like him at the KC Star. But for probably the first time since I can remember I actually do agree with him. This whole thing has become way overblown.

Angel is young (and appears a bit impulsive as well). And she appears to be lacking the mature guiding hand from her coach. Not sure about her family and their influence on this issue. But she could certainly benefit from coach who is mature and rational role model.

Regarding Jill Biden's suggestion, I wish she hadn't done so. It's (inviting the runner-up) never been done before and just adds fuel to the already smoldering racial fire. I have great respect for her as a professor of education, as I, too, was a professor of education and know that we need good people preparing our future teachers. But she got out of her lane here IMO.

What is embarrassing is that anyone who actually saw both games and when and how the incidents occurred could not logically compare the two as being the same. They are not the same and one shouldn’t have to point out how they were different. If The LSU player was white, it would have been viewed just as negatively. Do people actually believe the antics by Reese would have been acceptable if she was white? What a joke! .

I don't know what JB was trying to accomplish by inviting both teams to the White House. I get inviting LSU because y'know, they actually won, but inviting Iowa as well sort of defeats the purpose of having this tradition of having winning teams visit DC. Maybe just invite Caitlin, and maybe Coach Bluder for a separate visit instead, and call it good?

We're all capable of change. I'm not making a prediction. I've seen people make unbelievable transformations in who they are, what they believe, etc. I think with the right guidance and mentoring, Angel could.

I admire your optimism, but I don’t think she’s going to get that from a coach who is also a “look at me” personality. Maybe someone will reach her at the WNBA level but I highly doubt that as well. There’s almost just as much support for her as there is detractors.

Nope. Her peer group in her profession hold similar attitudes and the Twitterverse has absolutely reinforced her statements with positive results in the form of social media followers.

Women's basketball has never been more popular. People who never watch the game tuned in for this one and, sorry LSU, it wasn't to see you. Unfortunately it was largely ruined by two elements: (1) The NCAA needed to realize this was a showcase for the sport and find capable referees to do the game, and (2) LSU should have been as gracious in winning as the Hawkeyes were in losing. Instead, the game turned into a farce, with the refs seemingly determined to make themselves the show, and the aftermath developing into just another racial bout with the winners claiming they were disrespected while the losers took the bitter defeat largely quietly and graciously. Imagine an aftermath where the competitors would have hugged, shook hands and complimented each other. Isn't that what sports is supposed to be about?

Well said.

I'm a progressive Dem from Iowa, and I agree 100% with Whitlock. Staley making Bluder's bar fight comparison a racial thing was so wrong. Combining criticism of Bluder's bar fight comment with claims her players have been called thugs and monkeys results in many linking Bluder to those comments in some way. If making that claim that her players have been called these vile names, be specific about who made them or where they've been read or heard. Overall, Staley was very unfair to Lisa, the Hawks, and our fans.
Somewhat ironic you support the Iowa side of this debate (i.e. the White side)... As self-annointed "progressives" are the ones who have been dumping toxic accelerants on this monster for years.

Any self-professed "progressive Dem" who sides with Clark/Bluder needs to acknowledge their own culpability in allowing this repugnant situation to occur in the first place.

This largely describes me. Friday's game was really the first one where I watched major minutes and was blown away by Clark's passing even more than her shooting. But nearly all that good feeling went away with Sunday's game; certainly in part that Iowa didn't win, but far more with how the game was played and officiated, and the ridiculous antics of LSU's coach.

Iowa progressive dem and the article is the best thing I've read about this whole incident. Apology would be appropriate or at least admission of being wrong or are you going to use your political beliefs like Reese and Staley use race?

Oh for God's sake! Progressives seek a level playing field for all and are aware that this hasn't been the case in many aspects of life for many people. I'm sure there are progressives who have gone too far or been disingenuous in the speech and actions, but most of us just want what's fair for all people regardless of skin color, gender, etc. Don't try to lay a guilt trip on me FFS.

An inherent primary element plaguing Leftism is that it always goes way, way too far. History has proven that to be true time and again, regardless of geographical location or time period. Seems like sort of realize that yourself.

Among self-annointed "progressives" like you, what may have begun as a quasi-humanitrian desire for "fairness" (your word) has quickly morphed into something much uglier and insidious... that being an emboldened colored community that takes no personal responsibility and quite literally believes they can do no wrong. That's where you get outlandish race-based lies that turn into major national media stories that destroy lives and reputations.

You created this monster, and are a complete hypocrite for supporting Iowa in the dispute. If these insidious lies are allowed to continue, then the fight will transform from the passive-aggressive online garbage we see from the LSU black... and move directly toward outright racial warfare in the streets. White "progressives" will have no one to blame but themselves... the only question will be whether that nightmare scenario occurs in our lifetime or not.

The disgusting behavior of the Angel Reese's, Akrum Wadley's and Dayvion Nixon's of the world will only worsen as long as "progressives" continue to indulge their mass hysteria.

Bird was/is probably the greatest "trash talker" ever in NBA history.....he also as one helluva player....as good as Bird's game was....his trash talking was better.
Go to "youtube" and check out the Bird/trash talk stories there......

But you're a self-annointed Intelligent, Enlightened and Morally Superior "progressive." Surely it wouldn't be difficult for u to take a brief minute to explain where I'm wrong and set me on a better path.

You won't do that tho bc your views are morally bankrupt and you're an utter simpleton. Just like all modern Leftists.
