Who is the best collegiate wrestler 2015-2016

Don't forget Streibler (Huntur not Logen).

Sure he shouldn't be on the list but I just can't let the name thing dye.

1. Dieringer
2. Martinez
3. Gwiazdowski
4. Dean
5. Retherford
6. Snyder (Is he wrestling this year? If not move Brewer up and McIntosh or Cox at 7)
7. Brewer

125 is a tough weight class to pick a guy, I think they take turns beating each other up. Is Retherford going 149? If so, 141 is wide open this year.

Retherford placed 5th as a Freshman. Neither him nor Megaludis should be mentioned in the same paragraph as Martinez and Dieringer. Hell they shouldn't even have been mentioned with Gwiz.

I disagree about Retherford. You're talking about a kid who went 33-3 in his true freshman season. Lost to Stieber twice and Port once. IMO there is a big difference between a RS freshman and a true freshman. IMAR lost to Derek St. John and John Greisheimer in his RS season. Have to wonder how it might have worked out if Penn State gave Retherford his RS during his freshman season. I wouldn't be too overly concerned with him finishing 5th at NCAAs. To pretend that he has no chance to finish top 5 in the Hodge award this year is just silly.

+1

Martinez just turned 21. There are true freshmen wrestling who are two years younger than he was last year.

Ringer gets my vote. Closest match in last year's tourney was 6-1 over Bo Jordan.

Dieringer and Gwiz both have an opportunity to become 3-timers this year. I'd give them my vote above all others at this point.

I think everyone knows Retherford is going to be good, but I think the fact he is an unproven commodity at 49, coupled with the Pico loss, gives some cause for pause when we are talking about the best guy in the country. I think Retherford at 41 would be one of the most likely champs at any weight with the exception of IMAR and Dieringer.

I'm gonna vote again for Da' Ringer. If you guys keep throwing Retherford and Magaludis out there, I may vote a third time.
I know both these guys are great(Zain and Nico), but neither have won a national title and they are not the clear favorites at the respected weight todo so this year. Ringer 2 titles, Wiz 2 titles, and Imart undefeated champion as a freshmen. All three of these guys are the clear favorite to win this year.

If Zain and Nico are in the conversation (they shouldn't be) why aren't Clark, Gilman and Sorenson thrown in there?

I am shocked to have seen names other than Dieringer, IMar and Gwiz in this thread...

Alex "The Pistol" Dieringer no question about it. I made up the nickname in case you wondered him being a Cowboy and all and close to derringer....I figured a real cowboy would not settle for a little gun unless at the card table maybe

If IMar improves this year, and he should be better. It would be hard not to give him the nod. If you put two undefeated years back to back with two years to go!!! That should get some votes.

Love IMar...but let's be real. 157 was kinda weak last year. His only real challengers were Ness and Green (whom he beat by a point). Realbuto got into the semis on a FUBAR'd call and went to the finals because Ness got injured.Ness was awesome for his high risk stuff, not necessarily for his consistency. We liked him because he was doing stuff the other guys won't. However, DRinger completely killed
him in the finals the year before.

DRinger is just a flat out stud and will probably be a 3 timer. Yea, IMar is also fun to watch but it will be interesting to see if he can keep 157. I don't know if he will end up a 4 timer though.

As to the Iowa guys (or PSU)being in this conversation, you have to win titles to do that.

Preface---no names should be ahead of Deirenger or Imar....Gwiz?? He deserves the accolades but heavyweight is such a strange beast...just ask Nelson

Nico I agree, You have seen 3 years of his wrestling and he is great but has not shown dominance....you better rethink the Zain comment...Clark is great and may be in the next level this season but Cody brewer is back and better....Gilman??? please he was pinned by a freshman on the big stage as a redshirt sophomore.....Zain lost only to a future 4 time national champ as a true freshman and to port as a bounce back match. Sorensen is awesome...can't wait for the Zain match..fireworks!!! Like I said..I predict Zain will not go down this season...I will take my lumps if this does not happen but I feel rather confident.......keep thinking he does not belong in this discussion....Imar was not in this discussion same time last year...lets solve this on the mat...Prediction....lots of busted watermelons!!!!!!!

I'm not saying he won't be there by the end of the year. I'm just saying he's not there now. Just like Imart wasn't this time last year. But now it's all Ringer, Imart, and Wiz.

Alex Dieringer has Two NCAA titles and has one loss to DSJ (2-1 in the NCAA semis as a freshmen) in his entire NCAA career. Add to that a 2013 Jr. World Silver and there is no way anyone else should be mentioned. Is he definitely the best? Perhaps not, but nobody else has the track record to make an argument to unseat Dieringer in this debate.

157 was better than 165, IMO. Ringer might be the best but it's not cut and dry

The OP asked, "Who is the best collegiate wrestler 2015-2016?"
I took that as an invitation to prognosticate about the upcoming season and not rehash who's had the best career so far. Ok to disagree but I'm not sure why some of you are getting bent out of shape over somebody else's predictions.

My list in no particular order:
Imar
Max Huntley
Ringer

:)

He is great at losing to Burak

He lost to DSJ more than that.

Per the OKST page, he has four career losses. Who else beat him? Whoever it was, he was unranked per the OKST page. If it was PSU, could it have been Vollrath?

Yes, AD has 4 losses, 3 to St. John and the one to Vollrath. Obviously I'm a Homer, but my vote is for AD, his closest match on the year was the 6-1 over Jordan. I would have given him the Hodge, I felt like he was the most dominant wrestler last year, there was not a single match last year that was was ever in question. As far as this upcoming season I expect the same, Imar might get pushed a little by Nolf and Marsteller.

While we all expect dominance from Dieringer and Gwiz, IMart will have his share of close ones, as may Brewer.

You peeps are forgetting J'Den Cox, a junior with two title appearances, and no Snyder.

Marsteller may not even be the starter next year. OkSt is stacked

Who you thinking...Blees?
Blees is the only one there to challenge him. Collica going down, Joe Smith starting at 49 and shirting, C Rogers is too big. I guess Chris Koo coukd challenge for the spot, but I feel like Blees and CM will be the main guys and I think it is CMs to lose.

Or Collica when/if Smith is the best option at 149. Although OSU will be deep for awhile, this may be their best chance at a title run in the foreseeable future. Ringer won't be replaced and Marsden will be hard to replace. Like JRob last year, I expect both Smith and Brands to be all in this year. Best possible lineups will be out there to push PSU and tOSU, redshirts be damned.

Didn't Koo leave OSU and go back to NY?
