look...we can disagree on whether we should just assume he'll do a great job reforming something he knows little to nothing about

No,.. I understand it, and it might eventually even be worthwhile, but we don't have excess money for things like this right now,.. This is what happens as a result of uncontrolled spending,.. Today it's no satellite for Neptune,.. In 10-15 years it's a mandatory 20% cut in social security benefits.
As it turns out, trying to do things first is hard and can cost a lot of money with mistakes. I mean, if they find someone who is charging $20k for a box of wrenches, yeah. Clean it up, but that's not what they are talking about here. They are trying to eliminate every bit of functionality from the agency beyond the stuff even they don't want to do. The stuff that can lose them money. I don't think they are going to eliminate NASA, but they will turn it into the ultimate "Privatize profits, socialize losses" mechanism for SpaceX. And it's going to be really fun when we have to start paying money for the weather information that our tax money is used to gather. Hey, banks get to charge you money to access your money so why not private weather companies getting to charge you for information you've already paid for?
you realize that you constantly reposting all the tweets from elon talking about all the great work he's going to do is directly undercutting the point that he doesn't want attention or accolades for doing this work, right?

First off I don't think Bonespurs is a billionaire, given his recent begging other country's banks for cash to post for his felony convictions bonds. And he is awful. Everyone is talking about it.
He lies too much about important things. He also says opposite and misleading stuff about the same topic. It's why he can get away with saying awful things - because he will then say something more reasonable and his defenders will glom onto that version.
The problem for folks like me is that it's so often the case that his original and most spontaneous statements are the worst - and we take them to be the more honest reflections of his actual views.

I agree, but that doesn't mean I cannot take information and base my decisions off that. And you would have to be a raging idiot to think a guy who can't afford a coffee has the same level of advice a guy worth 400m does.

The guy with 400m (400bn) in OP is way more disconnected from an average person then the man with 12 dollars. Everyone on this site is probably way closer to being peers with the 12 dollar man and much more likely to give relatable advice.
Plus, if the advice they are giving you might benefit them, I'd wager the billionaire is more likely to place his best interests ahead of yours. Most didn't get ahead by ignoring personal profit.

but informing public policy...especially as it relates to slashing govt funding for people that have paid into and now count on SS?
that's an entirely different question, and frankly I don't think "how much money you've earned" plays much of a role in how qualified I'd consider you in answering that question
