What the hell does "purgative" mean? Haha.I understand the sentiment, but in reality he’s still the head coach and should have full authority to make the decision for the next hire (aside from family of course). If he wants a pawn to run the offensive scheme of his choosing, honestly that’s his purgative as the coach. If the AD is not ok with that, then the move needed to be about moving on from KF - not Brian.
I don’t think the issue was about the offensive system or style though. I think it is more about lack of player development (especially QB and OL), lack of fit in recruiting, lack of play action, and telling tendencies with formations and personnel.
Side note - does Barnett get a free pass now? The OL has been well below Iowa standards and a major (if not primary) contributor.
Because Beth is the main reason this happenedI've backed Kirk since day one. But, what does he possibly have to be upset with Beth Goetz about?
Mike or Mark? Bob isn't coming, he's done coaching, even if you begged him and backed up the Brinks truck.Stoopsy as Head Coach

Ducking autocorrectWhat the hell does "purgative" mean? Haha.
Oh please, Iowa will never fire Kirk, nor should they. He deserves and has earned the right to leave when he chooses. Firing Kirk would look absolutely terrible from a PR standpoint and maybe even worse from a financial standpoint. Why didn't they just fire Kirk? power is there to do it.
Wasn't going to bring this up but since you did I'll add my two-cents. I did not think Kirk looked well during the Minnesota game. My wife actually was the first to comment, wondering whether he was sick. We thought he looked gray and his face thin, drawn. Maybe nothing. Maybe just age. Maybe a health issue that has not been disclosed. He has stated he has no hobbies and his dream "retirement" is being an OL coach. He isn't leaving football short of a health issue with him or Mary or just outright being fired.
He should step down and try coaching the line while we get a head coach that values all phases of the game.He has stated he has no hobbies and his dream "retirement" is being an OL coach. He isn't leaving football short of a health issue with him or Mary or just outright being fired.
I think maybe Bob Stoops would want to coach at Iowa for 5 to 10 years. My gawd he is coaching Xfl or somethingStoopsy as Head Coach

LOL, yeah, he is coaching in the XFL. By choice. You really think that's his only option in coaching?I think maybe Bob Stoops would want to coach at Iowa for 5 to 10 years. My gawd he is coaching Xfl or something
One step away from H*ll?What the hell does "purgative" mean? Haha.
He better quit. It’s going to get real ugly.Edit: This is intended to be a prediction poll. Not what should happen, or what you want to happen, but what you think will happen.
I see three possibilities:
1. He rebuilds with a new OC; Kirk 5.0. (are we on 4.0 yet? I've lost count)
2. He finds a friend as a stopgap for a couple years until he's ready to retire.
3. He takes his ball and goes home.
We all think of Mike Leach as a genius coach, but why didn't he ever just find a great DC to pair up with his offensive genius?Phil Parker will be OC. Because Iowa's defense has been the offense for a long time. Just kidding. Let's find a guy to pair up with the best DC in the country!
No, the Ferentz offense historically sucking ass is the reason that this happenedBecause Beth is the main reason this happened
Count me in.Anyone who thinks Brian being let go has a thing to do with whether Kirk continues to coach or not is clueless
Please elaborate.Anyone who thinks Brian being let go has a thing to do with whether Kirk continues to coach or not is clueless
I generally agree, except for the "earned the right to leave when he chooses" part. I don't think any coach should have that right.Oh please, Iowa will never fire Kirk, nor should they. He deserves and has earned the right to leave when he chooses. Firing Kirk would look absolutely terrible from a PR standpoint and maybe even worse from a financial standpoint.
And maybe she wanted to save the recruiting class that are signed and keep the players that might want to transfer.Maybe He wanted it not to become news till after the Season and the recruiting Class was all signed ? Maybe He wanted to have it announced in a different fashion and from a different source or maybe He wanted to be the one to announce that BF had accepted an new Coaching position at - insert Your job here. Kirk has always controlled the narrative which is probably why He is not happy with this.
You don't believe that, so just stop.Anyone who thinks Brian being let go has a thing to do with whether Kirk continues to coach or not is clueless
They can get out of their loi if a coach leavesAnd maybe she wanted to save the recruiting class that are signed and keep the players that might want to transfer.
Who says he is upset?Because Beth is the main reason this happened
Goetz noted that she had consulted with UI President Wilson, too. Who went to whom for this consultation is not stated, so the decision may have come from higher up. If so, the nepotism issue may have been just as big a concern, if not more so, than the on-field performance issues. He can't control her like he did Barta...and oh yeah, she just fired his son, probably against his wishes.
Billion Auto is right down the road. BF would be a perfect assistant to the associate manager of their budget lot.How Mary feels about all this will be a big factor. If Brian continues to coach somewhere else she will be none too happy about the grandkids moving away
It could apply in this case, but it was Goetz (or Wilson or both) administering it. Now we have to wait to see what effect it has. Most purgatives produce clear results...in the end....What the hell does "purgative" mean? Haha.
I know how you feel, but he did this to himself, and I have a hard time feeling sorry for a gagillionaire who has selfishly allowed the offense of my very favorite sports team to be run into the ground and become a national punch-line.I think he’ll negotiate an agreement and retire.
I really feel sad that KF let it come to this. I’ve always respected him as a coach and human being.
Pales when compared to the Tom Davis exit strategy….Is Iowa the only program that gets rid of the oc and anounces it mid season for the following year, usually guys are canned right away and someone else will take over the playcalling duties
Not so fast, OO…..Bob is done coaching unless the right opportunity comes along…..Not predicting but not saying “never” either……..He’d have to have a couple of key coaches come with him or remain and NO questions asked (and there might lie the rub). Bobby won’t have time for a lot of bullshit…..He knows he doesn’t have it even if he wants it…..He would be an interesting choice and sell a whole bunch of season tix………..Mike or Mark? Bob isn't coming, he's done coaching, even if you begged him and backed up the Brinks truck.
