where do we go from here?

will they pushed out? will they start releasing the shelter in place distinction and allowing most industries to open?

will a certain % of work from homers be able to return?

Today, the mayor of New York City said
that his city will not be back to "normal"
until September. He will continue the ban
on large gatherings of people. This move
effectively guarantees No MLB for the
Yankees and Mets.

I live in the KC metro and ours expires on 4/23. Sounds like it will be extended up to three weeks. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it goes through the end of May. This is going to drag on until there is adequate testing.
I don't think people will stand for two more weeks of this crap. the drum beat is getting louder and louder. no more of it.

I am 100% fine with NYC doing whatever the heck they want. as long as the entire nation does not have to. each region and each city is different.

It should follow the shutdown pattern. A few states will open up and most will follow: governments need money like a junky needs a fix and they won’t sit idly by while their neighboring states start raking in revenue.

We are currently in week five in this area. I think we could roll through mid to late May around here without a lot of push back. I talked with one of the owners yesterday when I was at work. He is of the opinion that we could be working at home (voluntarily) until July or August if there is not enough testing.

I feel like in less dense areas, businesses should be allowed to reopen with a certain restriction for so many people per sq foot of occupancy space or something to that effect. Allow restaurants and bars to go 50% capacity or something.

Not sure the legality of discriminating between certain cities though.

Few restaurants reach their 100% fire capacity. Most restaurants are well under 50% on an average night. You would probably have to set it at 20% capacity. Then owners would have to make the decision if having low margins and a low mx capacity would be worth employing staff.

You can't distance a bar. You can forget a bar being open.

i hope we start seeing bars, restaurants, gyms, etc with ~50% capacity in mid May.

Mass gatherings like concerts, sporting events, etc.. are hold for the foreseeable future

We discussed the possibility of opening our local Y in May with distancing measures, such as blocking off every other treadmill, etc.

Unfortunately, there isn't a good way to effectively distance people at large gatherings such as concerts and sporting events, so those are probably out for a while.

Are people really starting to complain? Other than a few people on here, I’ve not really heard that.

Keep in mind that I do not watch cable news and stay away from propaganda news websites…

But the real people that I talk to seem to actually be getting used to this and hitting their stride/routine now.

I would hope they start letting people act responsible, such as businesses acting on their own behalf, after all, none of them want to become an epicenter

Right...however I think that consumers should also be able to hold these businesses accountable, legally, if they are able to verify that they caught the COVID in those places of business. If schools are back in session I think parents who's households end up being impacted and it is proven that there is spread in the schools should be able to hold them (school districts and states) legally accountable as well...that is what is going to happen so these businesses/govt entities better be prepared for it. I'd suggest they make a call to their liability carriers.

On your last line, I wonder if we might be seeing the start of a new work model where a lot of people do work from home? If so, there is going to be a lot of vacant office space in the coming future. Of course home builders/designers may develop a new niche in combing home and work designs into their new homes.

Yeah I am expecting we are in store for a crash in CRE office space prices.

I think the difference is that the real people you speak with that are hitting their stride probably all still have their jobs. I could be wrong but would guess that the people who have been laid off or think they might get laid off are getting anxious and starting to complain.

My guess is that the current goal is
to have public elementary and high
schools open in September. The
months of May, June, July, and August
are crucial for testing and validating
the testing for coronavirus.
