WNO Updates

Speaking of teasdales wno loses, what was the injury that ended Cade Oliva's wrestling career? He was a monster when he wrestled, would of been awesome to see how good he could of been

Concussions. Just too many of them. Feel bad for the kid.

Unless he changes his mind and comes to Iowa, right? Then he's great again.

Let's not talk in hypotheticals! Teasdale commits to Iowa. PSU board calls him "too hyped" and claims McHenry is in the pipeline. He switches to PSU and all of a sudden he's "great." Now, he can't win against a fill in for Who's Number Three (yup, three), so it's our turn to say he's "too hyped." We learned how to do this from you guys....turnabout is fair play, no?

Teasdale, with his rolled up halter top shirt, looked like a 125 trying to be a 133/141.

Just in case people missed this from last year:

Max Murin (Young Guns Black) over Joe Silva (CFWA- South Florida Lightning) Dec 5-0

oh yeah and...

Max Murin (Young Guns Black) over Brian Courtney (Middle Atlantic Blue) Dec 3-2

Courtney beat Meija

Murin is the forgotten man in Iowa's star studded recruiting class of 2017 and he should not be. He is one heck of a wrestler. I understand he doesn't t have the resume of Lee or Warner, but he is going to produce on a high level sooner rather than later.

I have been on record talking up Silva for a couple years now, so, I am not cutting down Silva by posting this, rather just highlighting Murin's talent level.

I've been very pro-Teasdale as a college prospect. His reaction to adversity today was concerning. I'm not throwing in the towel on it, it's one match in the grand scheme, but it was concerning. RBY may have moved ahead of him in my eyes, which is obviously very important to everyone.

I wouldn't place to much emphasis on Teasedale exhibitions matches or his desire to wrestle. Shit happens.

I remember watching Happel give up during NOC 1 against Phillippi. That was pretty much the whole 3rd period. I didn't hear any drums back then.

Lifestyle is the word your hear associated with Teasdale and by what I saw he seemed to gas. That was also a word associated with Sasso but from what I have seen and heard he's matured and is ready for college he would be a good fit with Molinaro and Frayer

Teasdale appears to be a man without a country - no passion, no commitment, no f***. He needs to come to Iowa City.

I agree. Definitely talented and has huge upside, just appears to be more of an Alton than a Nolf. Still AA but won't be surprised if he doesn't place as high as his talent.

Agree. If he can wrestle 133 for a year or 2 it makes him even a bigger catch. Not sure it is possible but sure hope it is.

Yes but will he be a 33 pounder like the other two you mentioned? I would be very excited if that was the case. Right now I feel pretty good with Turk and Happel at 41. Maybe that's why Murin isn't getting the buzz you feel is missing.

I'm not from Missouri, but I'm not feeling 141 yet...no tangible results, they'll have to show me first.

My thoughts

113 - Weighed in 10 pounds light. The fastest high school wrestler in the nation. It isn't even close.

120 - Most even match of the night. McKee has some big testicles. Are we in on Howard?

126 - Teasdale did gas. BUT, and we've all said this before - the offensive guy usually becomes the better college wrestler. Obviously, his lifestyle is an issue.

132 - RBY was more offensive, but these were the two quickest wrestlers in the building. Neither could score on their quick go-behinds. Silva the better gas tank and the "cleaner" wrestler. There was no scramble available when he got to the leg. Really sad we missed out on him.

138 - Moore got freaked out by Teemer standing up. Gives up a peterson. Teemer is a gamer.

145 - Sasso. We need Sasso. Will give a different look in the room, likes the lights, likes to pin.

152 - much ado about nothing

160 - Surprised Lee was so conservative. Cost him at the end of the match.

170 - Ramirez is a loser. And I mean that in the scientific sense. He finds more ways to lose than any other elite wrestler I've ever seen. It's good he's at a place like Blair. Hope they can clean him up. Hidlay? Man, I just don't see the 184. But he wrestles hard and is good on the mat.

195 - I wonder if Hoffman is an 184. He looked really good. I was surprised that Beard had the more effective over-tie. That was a great game plan victory. He was ready for that single and his counter attacks were world level. Beard has a better tank than I thought.

Wrestling is a grind. Most guys aren't fully conditioned right now as wrestling in early October means absolutely nothing.

I'm not going to call out GT for getting gassed in Oct. Let's see if he gets gassed and "quits" in Feb of 18.

No. He deserves to be called out for not being prepared. The time-old excuse of "it's preseason" doesn't hold water. What's the difference between that and Fargo? Season ends in March and a guy shows up to wrestle in July unprepared. He did the same thing here. Where you can say it's not a big deal is... it's an exhibition. So while the ranking was on the line, no title was.

It will be interesting to see what GT becomes. There are a lot of issues - will he grow, does he party too much? It looks like to me he's sucking a ton of weight now. He just has that look in his face. He's definitely a small kid, but I'm pretty sure the PSU guys were thinking he'd grow. It would solve their 125 problem if he doesn't.

I'd agree whole heartedly if we were talking Mid-1990's 177 pounder (then a good size for a LB and now considered small) who was coming off the football field straight to the wrestling mat. However, we're not.

I remember in the Scott Casber interview he asked Teasdale if he was a good student and Teasdale responded with "I'm not smart". Hence being conned by Cael to PSU. LOL I kid I kid. Well he probably has a nice deal with PSU and maybe he has been living it up this summer. Probably not smart, but this doesn't mean he won't get his act together when he gets on campus and starts working with the team. I think he turns 19 this month so hopefully this loss will get him back into gear. I would still love to have Teasdale man 133 for us. I think starting for PSU as a TF at 125 will be hard for him in the class room and with weight management, but i'm sure Cael with have a good nutritional plan for him and tutors to help him in the class room. It will be up to him to do the work.

Agree. If claiming the #1 spot in the country and winning an event you have failed to win before isn't motivation, what is?

Hey. If Teasdale ends up at PSU I am hoping the one of the Alton brothers can be pulled in to mentor him. Good fit from what I am reading. Who knows, with this stuff, could be something and could be nothing. It’s anyones guess what can happen to some kids when they leave the nest. Wasn’t Gross a kid with a great background and then made the poor choices? Time will tell.

The motivation is f***. Duh
Gavin struggled to finish and is very quick. If he had ended up at Iowa, I believe that Terry Brands is able to develop him into a multiple time NCAA champ. It's really too bad, because he was in the right place for him.
