57kg-Daniel didn't have a first match but looked great in his only one against AZE with a good tech. Seems to me that Daniel can gut from any position.

61kg-Ramos wrestled a game Indian and looked good late against AZE. He won both.

65kg-Frank had two real physical matches. Love his high crotch to a lift and dump. He and the AZE guy basically came to blows. The AZE guy was cheap shotting Frank the whole match. Frank kept his cool and at the end was smiling wide, rubbing it in the guys face. Little bitch almost lost it.

70KG-If this were an Olympic weight, I think James Green would have a great shot. Just an animal on his feet and in par terre.

74kg-Ringer wrestled both matches. In his first match, he had a great shot late but didn't look like he got it as time expired. When they went to the replay, the Indian's knee appeared to touch the mat...looked like Metcalf's match against China last year. Tough beat. Ringer came back to win 8-0 against AZE

86kg-Wow is all I can say. J'Den looks really good. Won an easy one against India and a tough one against the World's #3. So very tough to score on.

97kg-Snyder teched his guy in the first but had a tough one/snoozer against AZE

HWY-Varner went in the second match (India didn't have won) and TF'd the AZE heavy. He looked very good and his ankle picks were on point. I think Varner might have found his new weight for next year.

All in all, a great showing by us in the first few rounds. It's not so much the wins its that we didn't give ground and stayed aggressive in all of our matches. Example: Ringer was shooting and trying to score until the end even though he could have cruised for the last 30 seconds. Great Job boys!

Thanks to Wildturk for the PbP

Listening to the Ramos interview, it really sounds like a guy who was able to get away from Iowa (other than the Brands mannerisms he has picked up). Talks about being more creative, finding more ways to score, etc.

Does your dyslexic mother know you're using her screen name, Tony?

Yeah glad he got away from distractions so he could compete at non Olympic weight and DD could continue domination. Sounds like all positive all around.

Nome or Gnome? Still looked like the same Tony to me. Maybe a few more fakes.

Lemon Pie is a PSU.........well you can go over to the BWI board and see what they think of him.

Why would he get tossed? This isn't the Nebraska football board.

I guess I don't notice the troll police doing their work. That's how you know they're good.

Putting Lemon Pie's (or whoever's) trolling aside. I just watched replays of Green's two bouts and the dude is seriously bringing the pain back up at 70. He looks so smooth and comfortable out there. Omarov from Aze looked shellshocked after the match.

Where are you getting the replays?

Flo is loading them. No USA matches about 30 min ago but some up now.

Tony said he could have scored a lot more. It bothers me when I hear that from wrestlers. If he could've scored more then why didn't he? It's just a foolish thing to say. Just leave it on the mat and don't talk smack when you win on criteria.

Every time I see Green at 70kg, it pisses me off that mens freestyle had to lose two weights to satisfy some assinine Olympic committee need to have a status quo to the number of overall bouts in wrestling. As if a couple dozen more bouts over 13 days couldn't be done in about three extra hours.

Swimming has 32 events, but heaven forbid wrestling isn't allowed more than 18.

Sorry for the mini Sunday morning rant.

Give one bronze and it will open up 6 medals.

I just watched the first 20 seconds of Franks match vs AZE and Frank clearly started the cheap shots. It looked like a head butt and an open handed punch to the face by Frank early in the match. The ref saw it the same way. Edit: Frank threw a punch before the head butt with 15 seconds left also. How could you wrestle Frank and not want to punch the shit out of him?

It was a while back. Pile nome is an anagram of his old handle, Lemon Pie. He was a flamer. Nothing more.

Tony coulda scored a lot more yesterday too. Different locale, same results. Sounds like his problem is between the ears.

I had zero issues with Tony's interview. He said that he was looking for creative ways to score, which he had been practicing in the Iowa room. He thought that a new set of eyes was a good thing, and that his training was going better because his head is clear. He took no cheap shots

IMO Tony realizes that he can't rely on criteria wins and achieve his goals. He was lost against Dennis because he couldn't open it up and he also couldn't slow it down because Dennis kept putting him on the shot-clock. I hope he figures it out.

I don't disagree that his wrestling has issues, and he looked like the exact same guy to me. Just saying that his interview was fine.

It's funny how I can love a wrestler then dislike him in 1 day. I don't like Tony now ... Sorry I'm a unforgiving asshole

I don't dislike him, it just makes me even happier that Dennis beat him at OTT. Hopefully Dennis, Clark, Gilman and McDominate continue to beat him as long as he is on the Senior Circuit.

I really hope Matt is going to be healthy enough to get some solid training so he can go for the world team at 61kg. Would love to see him take out Ramos if they were to meet up.

Tony Ramos was a very good Hawkeye, but IMO he was limited offensively in comparison to Dennis, Gilman and McD. It's no surprise to me that he would have some difficulty scoring at the next level. Conversely he's always been hard to score on.

I disagree. Except Tony being hard to score on. Ramos found ways to score in college when he had to. All of them are great Hawks!

"Asinine Olympic committee" is redundant.

Metcalf respects Frank, doubt he cares if you do.

Some here are simply ridiculous. The is a thread to cover the World Cup not who you dislike and trashing our USA wrestlers is just plain wrong. The hate runs deep!!!

Anyone know what the attendance was? Good crowd? Sparce?

This will probably never happen, but I wish CHA could host this event sometime.

Apparently we have a different interpretation of what "in comparison to" means.
