Wow, Dake got hosed.

Why did he get hosed. If he would have worried about the match instead of everything else, he might have gotten it. He wasn't focused on beating the king, and he paid for it.

Have to agree that Dake got hosed on that one. Burroughs was being pretty cheap with the hands to the face...and once again a ref with no damn balls!

He got hosed by being put on the clock twice in that last period. He got hosed by being mushed in the face several times, just plain cheap shots. Are you saying Burroughs EARNED and deserved to win that match?? That match wasn't earned by either wrestler in my opinion.

The ref warned Burroughs for hands to the face like a minute in. With the way that rule has been enforced, it should have been caution and two easily.

I agree that Dake was whining a lot but he did get BOTH of his contacts knocked out. Any other wrestler would have been dinged for it.

Not to mention putting Dake on the clock for the 2nd time with a minute left when Burroughs wasn't put on at all. Shady

make Dake come out of his gorilla stance and wrestle, and concentrate on scoring rather than begging, and he wins IMO

Agree ed but again, you telling me JB earned that? For Christ sake, anyone with eyes can see that was bogus!

I don't think anyone necessarily earned it, I just don't think Dake got essentially hosed. Maybe the hands to the face stuff, but I don't think they called that in any of the title matches, did they? I still think he would have done better if he focused more on JB than on the ref.

I'm not a Dake fan per se by any means but I'd have to say it's probably pretty hard to focus when you're getting open palmed punched in the face several times and the ref isn't doing much about it. Ref had no sack (big surprise). Maybe if he'd sacked up and made the call someone would have gotten a takedown and really settled the match. We'll never know I guess but all I know is several guys got called for a lot less than what JB was doing.

Another thing that's always been consistent is that refs always seem to call caution on the guy not shooting. Never understood it. People try the whole "holding center" thing, but the it makes no sense.

Again, they need to properly value the takedown. Otherwise, the risk is not worth the reward in matches like these.

One thing we did learn is that JB's offense is no longer dynamite. He went blast double and Dake stone-walled it big time.

This is the long-term takeaway, I think. Burroughs is much less explosive. I hope there are more world titles in his future, but he's come back to the field.

If you're going to wrestle JB effectively you have to stay SUPER low so you don't get blasted. I have no problem with Dake being in a three point stance in this situation.
Staying low is one thing. Hands on the the mat for extended period of time is being passive. The ref should have warned Dake. With Dake being attached to the mat, I was fine with Burroughs' actions. Personally, I wish Dave was forced up then I would have been more sympathetic to Dake, unfortunately not a ton of action.

Keep in mind that the guy in the three-point stance is still the one who did most of the attacking

What does it say about Burroughs that the guy with the naturally defensive stance still out shot him about 5-1?

on another note Dake said the fruit basket Taylor sent him for dropping back down to 74 was really nice.
There is no debate that Dake has OWNED David Taylor in the past. Dake used to have a significant advantage in strength. Not any more. I would love to see Dake move up to wrestle DT now.

Getting to a good wrestler's legs when they are in a 3-point stance is nearly impossible. Burroughs tried to punish him for staying in that posture. I am not surprised that the person who kept there hand on the mat chose to attack the person's legs that were not blocked with an arm.

The drama is Dakes game, he's done that his whole career to regroup, take a breather, etc. He's a very smart wrestle.

Taylor would beat him now. Imo. Taylor is not the same guy he was a couple of years ago.

Might very well happen. Oh and Dake never had a strength advantage against Taylor, it was skill.

I.might be in lala land. Lol

Ruining wrestling. As a former basketball player and Dad who had 4 kids wrestle including my daughter, I am the disposable income fan who makes certain my kids attend events like this the sport needs. These matches need fixed.

And I'd love to see Taylor move up to heavy weight. Makes about the same stupid sense.

Meh...Dake was at 86Kg and made the finals last year beating and lost the 2 of 3 against JDen. Dake has given DT every shot at him throughout their careers and the results have all been the same. Now we're going to say, but it's different?

Not a Dake fan either. Only response is, why didn't Dake "open palmed punched" JB in retaliation?

Dake got pummeled in the face more than Oliver did v Retherford, and Retherford was penalized. Seems like Burroughs could've been penalized. I think the ref was generous to Burroughs.

As an aside, nice to see Oliver take out both Zain and Molinaro.

Correct throws and caution and two's , just what freestyle needed. Like subjective refing wasn't bad enough already. IMHO a correct throw scores points , either exposure or a takedown. If it does neither , it wasn't done correctly. Oliver scored five points , O takedowns , 0 pushouts , 0 exposures. Great for the sport
