Upon further thought, think I’ll quit posting on this off topic board as I’m not into politics nearly as much as others and my conservative views are generally in the minority here. I’ll probably still “lurk” here occasionally, but it’s simply not productive arguing with others. BTW - I apologize to anyone I may have offended last night…I was in a pissy mood after the Iowa men’s hoops team lost to Northwestern. 🥴
However, I’ll continue reading & posting on the Iowa Rivals sports sites as I’m a passionate Hawkeye fan. At least there I only encounter some crazy Husker fans to spar with. 😉

However, I do think politics, both national and state/local, are important, and the views I have shared here were my own. What I do find kind of “weird” are people who don’t know each other, getting so upset with opposing viewpoints, but I guess that’s society these days.

The countries the closest should be ratioing there contributions not by GDP but by closeness. Ukraine is 5000 miles from the US and Ukraine is 1000 miles from Germany. They should give 5x the amount.

As I have said, if this all scares the Europeans into doing what they think is necessary, on their own, then it was a success.
Many liberals on this board seem to have some sort of impression that we impropve our standing in the world by doing the hard work for everyone in the world. That if we dont take the lead in Euope for a European probem we lose stature. Wrong. We are still the most powerful military and economy in the world no matter this conflict. That is why I think we get a peace deal done ASAP or let the EU handle it largely.

Serious question, does Europe have enough military equipment to supply Ukraine without any US involvement? If so, they should tell us to f$ck off and have a European mineral rights deal where there is security guarantees.
I think Ukraine should tell the Orange Asshole to take a flying leap. Make a deal with the Euros even Canada. Stick it in the Orange creep's arse. Billions or maybe trillions worth of earth minerals. Dangle it in the fat bastard's eyes and keep it out of reach.
Sure, I suppose that could be one way to calculate it, if you want to discount the US as a global superpower and leader of the west. "Closeness" seems to be the way a child might approach the situation though, or maybe someone from hundreds of years ago. There's no right or wrong number to US aid, but to turn our backs completely would be a huge mistake imo.
Also, don't have the stats, but guessing if the aid numbers were presented as a percentage of each country's defense budget we'd be even further down on the list.
The thing is, Trump and his toadies will trumpet this as a win. He would claim victory by getting Europe to take over security assurances for Ukraine and further isolating the U.S.
Trump has had a bullshit stump speech for years that Europe doesn’t “pay” their NATO fees - as if it’s some social club with dues.
All that Trump’s isolationism does is further weaken the U.S. No country in their right mind should sign another agreement with the U.S. We are violating the 1994 Bucharest agreements right now by abandoning Ukraine - following in Russia’s footsteps when they violated the agreement in 2014.
No country in their right mind should share intelligence with Trump/Tulsi anymore. That info will go straight to the Kremlin. That only further weakens the U.S. and puts its citizens at risk.
