11/30 Update - Cybertruck Delivery Event (Link)

I don't care for current tech ev's (talk to me when solid lithium is cost effective) but am generally a fan of tesla. They generally seem to have the best specs and designs by a mile (the roadster is one of the best looking cars available across all markets). The cyber truck is attracious as **** though.

To each his own.

I think some wraps are going to turn heads.

Matte Black would be sick. This is a rendering.

Problem is they're realistically years behind. I imagine tesla will come out with a mainstream truck that doesn't look like something cooked up for halo 1 in the very near future in addition to cyber truck and the ev super cab 18 wheelers they're working on.
A new truck in the “near future?” How near are you predicting?

I was gonna say, the first electric cars I remember (Prius?) we’re ugly af- and people had no issue driving them cause “save the planet”.

But people wanna bag on the design just because of Elon. Weird to me🤷
Your memory isn’t what you think it is. Plenty of people didn’t/don’t like the look of the Prius (or the Leaf)….and just like people bought that questionably aesthetic car, people will buy this one as well. Weird, I know.

BTW, me making fun of the design has nothing to do with Elon. Super weird, right?

So…we agree? I’m not sure how my memory is wrong if I stated the same thing as you 😀

putting all the Elon political BS theatrics aside and discussing the truck

That is an ugly ass truck, and they will need to improve the design and functionality to corner the EV truck market once Chevy and Ford start producing EV trucks.
Ford Lightning (ev version of f150) has been out for awhile.

Rivian R1T is a great US made ev truck as well.

We don’t agree…people did have issues driving/buying them because they were ugly (and had nothing to do with Elon). Some still did however, just like people bought and drove a Pontiac Aztec. Aesthetics, as well as range, was always an entry barrier for early EVs/hybrids. Let’s not pretend the cybertruck is the first EV to receive criticism on its looks.

I think they halted the F150 lightening. We got three for the field supervisor and we have had a lot of issues.
You see a lot of Rivians out here in California. They're pretty nice. 10/10 from Car and Driver.

Rivian makes a NICE truck. This cyber truck is about the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen.

And that’s outside of my opinion of Elon.

I’ve had my PHEV for a year now. Love the concept of it. I wouldn’t go full electric but I’ll never go back to just gas powered as long as I’m in the city.

I don't hate the design, however there is no doubt that choosing this design caps your market. There are a lot of people that will never consider this based on looks. It really is a targeted launch to get people who want something that really stands out.
For a unique design I really liked Ford's retro electric but I don't know if they will actually make it. https://media.ford.com/content/ford...02/all-electric-f-100-eluminator-concept.html

On a side note Chevy is supposed to be releasing the EV equinox soon. They say it will start at 30,000. I think if they make a quality EV SUV at that price it could be a huge success.

Definitely the reason why the original concepts hardly ever make it to production but I admire the decision.

With ~1.8 million reservations, they will have their hands full just trying to deliver them all for a few years. I think the capacity will be around ~250K run rate at the end of 2024 (not producing 250K in 2024 to be clear) and ramp approaching 500K run rate in 2025. This isn’t taking into account new orders along the way. Of course many will cancel or not want to wait etc.

I think Ford is going to destroy Tesla when it comes to trucks. That Cybertruck is one ugly vehicle. It somehow looks extremely dated like it was designed in the 80s but with terrible futuristic elements.

All I will say to this is that EVs are completely different products than ICE vehicles and Ford does not know how to make a compelling EV yet. Maybe they will some day. Don’t try to tow anything with your for Ford EV truck or you’ll be in for disappointment.

My suspicion is Ford will eventually figure it out. Trucks are their thing.

The truck is perfect if you want to drive a truck to work in the city for 30 miles and never pull anything. Our 3 operations folks that have them absolutely hate them because they put about 200 miles a day in and they have to constantly be aware of nearby charging stations. One guy has to stop at a Walmart parking lot every day so that he can charge enough to be able to complete his day and drive home

I’ve been reading this quite a bit anecdotally. All EVs suffer from range drain when towing. Truck or not. The more efficient an EV is both not towing and when towing is what will matter to a lot of people. This is where I expect and am hoping that the Tesla Truck will differentiate itself. Significantly less range loss when towing. That and its 1 MW charging capability when Ford Trucks and others are charging at 150 kW.

This is part of why the delay of the release of Cybertruck. They were developing this next generation charging standard. The charging cables for Tesla Semi (1 MW rate) are liquid cooled to address the heat during electricity transfer. It is all new technology and innovation. This Truck will be all new technology.

They aren’t, though. The interior still matters and Ford has shown they’re the best truck manufacturer in that regard.
