2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

This article does help dispel the myth that Fran is lazy in recruiting. He does not get many of the players he goes after, but it is not for a lack of trying.
He gets talented players under the radar because he works so hard at it. And he does it the right way by recruiting and developing HS kids, not by free agency like the lazy coaches who have helped to change the NCAA into a farm system.

It is not lazy to use the portal, it is a tool that should not be ignored anymore. Us hawkeye fans need to get this through our heads.

Yeah, when I think of guys like Chris Beard, Dana Altman, Bill Self and Mark Few I think of lazy coaches.

That he still had to recruit. I guess I'm not understanding how that's lazy. You gotta recruit the player either way.
Recruiting players then babying them through off-campus crap was his specialty. Just look at the turnover and crap that occurred during his time at IA State. Never a dull moment.

If that is all that is important to you, you can have it.
Winning is important. as is not being complacent and creating less competition for your son to play. I am sorry but when we lose good guys and do not bring in anyone new at that position I am a little bit perplexed by that. It was the nail in the coffin. Now, if he brings in some of the recent offers and Bowen then I am good. But I am not confident we can get that.

You don't know that. A few unsubstantiated rumors is not proof IMHO.

Patrick Wessler is a 7'0" foot, 250 lb Center.

As mentioned above, Iowa has now offered.

Here is video from March 15, 2021.

As you can see, and as @BBHawk mentioned, he's a lefty. Nice rim protector and he dunks! ;)

Watch:

Rivals shows him with 8 offers, including:
Iowa
Creighton
Wake Forest
Mississippi
South Florida
Elon
New Orleans
Charlotte

I'd be more impressed if his offer sheet included some of the "big boys" in the area. Of course, that would also greatly diminish our chances, but if we want to compete with the blue bloods, we has to take fliers on the same recruits. Costs nothing to offer and, who knows, maybe just once in awhile something clicks and we land one of the really big fish.

For those of you who might have missed this from 2 days ago:

The five schools most actively involved in Dasonte Bowen's recruitment.

Iowa: “Iowa was my first offer the summer going into my sophomore year and they were also my first ever visit (unofficial). They’ve stayed on me all the way up to now which means a lot. I talk to them multiple times a week. Whether it be coach [Fran] McCaffery or another coach on the staff, they never miss reaching out. Coach McCaffery wants me to come there and have the ball in my hands trusting me to make winning plays and be an extension of him on the court. They definitely can help sharpen the tools I already have while getting me ready for the next level.”

Maryland: “Maryland was more recent but they definitely haven’t missed a beat. I talk to them almost daily and I’ve gotten to get on zoom with coach [Mark] Turgeon and coach Bino [Ranson] once. They want me to come in and be a lead guard as they’ve had much success with in the past. Playing for coach Turgeon could definitely help my game the way he’s developed his guards and the coaching experience he carries.”

Rutgers: “Coach [Steve] Pikiell has done a great job bringing back that winning culture at Rutgers. He wants me to come in and help him continue that. I’ve gotten to do a zoom call with coach Pikiell and coach [Karl] Hobbs. I could definitely fit very well in their system as they’re a guard oriented program for the most part. They allow their guards to run the show and the team which has brought a lot of success.”

Miami: “Coach [Jim] Larrañaga is definitely a legendary coach and can offer a lot of knowledge I couldn’t get a lot of other places. They had a tough year but definitely still carry a winning culture. They let their guys get up and down the floor which is a situation I could thrive in.”

USC: “USC is the most recent so we haven’t been able to built up a relationship quite yet but we definitely will. It’s a winning culture there with coach [Andy] Enfield and how he’s turned it around in his time there. They recruit gritty guys that want to just work and block out the noise and think I fit that. I could definitely see myself here with the way they developed their guys and can get them ready for the next level.”

I've been a Hawkeye BBall fan since Lute was here, but if I really thought Fran was making sure there was less competition for his sons I'd follow someone else.

Why did Fran offer and sign the Murray twins, Sandfort, and put out several 4* PG and SF 2022 offers, if he's trying to give the starting spots to his sons? The team is full of players similar to P-Mac in size, and we already have 2 PG's with more offers in 2022 when Connor will be a Sr.
