2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

For some reason, the suspense of who we sign is killing me this year. Probably because we have had so many great players actually visit us this year. If we somehow strike out this year. McCaffery really has to consider adding someone to his staff under the age of 60 that can sell the Iowa program to these young men.

I have a feeling we're whiffing on all these dudes.

We have landed Bowen & Mulvey in this class. Mulvey, of course, reclassified to 2021.

We likely land Dix.

That's 2, and very likely 3, players right there.

So, has Fran really struck out this year?

Has he really whiffed on all of "these dudes?"

I guess I was referring to the Top 100 dudes.

Honestly, he got Mulvey for next year so probably should not be included. Fran has gotten more than a few highly rated guys to come in and look at us, that's moving in the right direction. Now close on 1 or more, that's what the Hawks need

Used to be that an Iowa player could never win big awards because there 'wasn't the exposure" that they would get at a blue blood. That is no longer true. I think Iowa does have more to sell since McC has been here.

Tarris Reed Jr. appears to be joining Aidan Shaw at Link Academy in Branson, MO - leaving Chaminade Prep in St. Louis.

If Iowa cools on Shaw, this could be a hypothetical reason....dirtier people getting involved? Only reason it crossed my mind was coaches not watching him this weekend but perhaps they had conflicts. Unlikely, but did cross my mind.

I think right now with Shaw Iowa is right there, but I think Arkansas is going to be where he ends up.... but Iowa is right there. Hoping for a bad visit to Arkansas :)

I've tried sushi like 20 times over the last 15 years and I just don't like it. I think I'm done trying.
Fair enough. If you ever get a chance to try fresh caught sushi or sashimi, I suggest giving it one more try. I was down in Tamarindo Costa Rica where a guy on the trip caught a 300 lb yellowfin. This fish blew me away by how good it was. The freshness was on a different level.

I will facetiously say this is all your fault fran. I am perfectly happy with Mulvey and especially Bowen, but you keep teasing us with all these 4 star players that are actually visiting Iowa City this year and I am anxious to see if we can actually sign any of them, especially the bigs. If ALL of these guys wind up leaving us as the bridesmaid again, I think McCaffery needs to change his staff to find a younger guy who not only can close the deal with these recruits, but also coach some defense.

I will try and keep that in mind if I'm in that position. Thanks for info.

Saw Tyler Nickel is visiting the weekend of September 17th, Kent State home game. This Young man is a Joe W. clone with more length. He has always been high on my list of players to get. Not sure we can pull him to the Midwest from out East but he and Bowen would be two very good additions to this class.
At least he says he's visiting, so there's a chance

Yep.

See prior post. I reported that yesterday.

And, as always, the thread title is current as well.

I thought about creating a new thread on this development yesterday but did not think it was necessary.

@skydog0784

I agree with you. Iowa has been recruiting Tyler Nickel long and hard; they offered on June 24, 2020. Blue bloods like UNC were late to the party.

Why do you like our chances vs North Carolina? Simply because we offered earlier?

Some have argued in this thread that Fran will only be considered successful and a fantastic recruiter if he actually lands a Kyle Filipowski or a Tyler Nickel. It's cool to see you feel otherwise.

@Herky T Hawk

Several posters have agreed with you in this thread, where they give Fran credit for having a fantastic eye for talent, but not being a fantastic recruiter.

You stated that so many times he’s identified kids as freshman or sophomores and he offers and then they blow up and go elsewhere. You said that Cook and Garza are the only major recruits he’s closed the deal on that didn’t have Iowa ties so far. I would argue that we can add Dasonte Bowen to your list.

We’ll see if he blows up into a top 100 / 4 star recruit. Until then he isn’t in that list with Cook and Garza, he’s on par with Basabe, Moss, etc.

Both ESPN and 247 rank Bowen in the top 100, Rivals is the anomaly.

Discounting Bowen in order to be right about Fran is absurd.

He hasn't won as many recruiting battles as I would like, but Bowen is certainly one where he did just that.

@DodgerHawki

With only 2 scholarships remaining and one likely going to SG Jos Dix, we have just one scholarship left for a big. Hopefully we land Filipowski, Shaw or Nickel.

There has been some bitching in this thread about who Fran has landed and not landed so for for 2022. I would say the results are not too bad. So far, of course, Fran has landed his PG, in Dasonte Bowen, and a big, in Riley Mulvey (who then decided to reclassify to to 2021). If he lands Dix, which is likely, that will be another nice piece to this class.
