2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

I don’t think Karaban has shown a lot of Iowa interest….seems like he likes those East coast schools….but that’s just my guess. He and Tyler Nickle seem to have similar games.

My guess is he ends up at UCONN

He did visit Northwestern, however, so who knows....

Moss looks like a pretty good player. Very efficient, very smooth. Seems to shoot it pretty well. Mid range jumper is solid. I like him.

2022 F Braden Huff recorded 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, & made 2 three pointers in the Illinois Wolves win over Team Rio.

Brad Underwood, Fran McCaffery, and assistants from Gonzaga, Michigan State, and more were watching this really unique prospect.

Wonder what this might mean for SG Josh Dix if Iowa offers SG Brenden Moss. ;)
Might mean we are missing on some other targets or it might mean we just found another player we like. It is good to have options.

My worst fear is that after we've followed all of these players all spring and summer and gotten our hopes up, McCaffery winds up signing a couple of low ranked kids out of nowhere. At least we got his PG.

Matt Bain said that he did not see any Iowa coaches watching Aidan Shaw.

Iowa offered Josh Dix on April 21, 2021.

He took an Unofficial Visit on June 8, 2021

On June 8, 2021 Tom Kakert forecasted Josh to IOWA

Fran & Kirk were watching him this weekend at the Adidas event in Birmingham, AL.

Josh has been a stand out.

Kingsbury will be a preferred walk on…..when you look at the other young man (name escapes me) that we recently added as a preferred walk on….this will make for some damn good practice players and guys that could eventually be contributors. I’m not a fan who normally even has a spark of excitement about non-scholarship players, but this is looking like some pretty impressive roster additions Who don’t demand playing time and can actually help the team.

See the original post for the current roster

I will add Kingsbury under the walk on category

Notable Walk on players:

SOPHOMORE: 1 player

Luc Laketa--a 2021 6'6" wing/forward; on May 13, 2021, it was announced he would be joining the roster as a preferred walk on.

Braden Huff reminds me a bit of Patrick. I'm starting to wonder about whether Dix really wants to be here, but if he does and we can sign him and Wessler, I will be happy.

I'm not reading any Dix love for Iowa.
Except that he visited on his own dime and both sites have confidence picks for him coming to iowa (although those have been way way wrong recently with football recruits.....).

Regardless, it seems like there is real interest.

One advantage to choosing Iowa (and could also be a disadvantage) is that we typically go 9-10 deep, at least. So your chances of cracking the rotation are good vs. some teams that run really tight 6-7 man rotation. The downside is you might under index on minutes versus maybe if you went to a crappier team. I like Dix and his game, but we seem to be in on a lot of high level talent. Hoping we can close the deal on some of these out of state guys.

His own dime? It's a relatively short drive to Iowa City from Counciltucky. That's not a huge tell, at all.

I thought Michigan State & Illinois were the top contenders.

Puke has now entered the picture.

Tarris Reed Jr. appears to be joining Aidan Shaw at Link Academy in Branson, MO - leaving Chaminade Prep in St. Louis.
The whole prep school thing is getting very interesting. Most of these schools aren't even schools, which I guess is fine. Not sure when this one opened in Branson. Went to their website and it says "Link Year has been granted exemption as a religious school in the state of Missouri by the Missouri Dept of higher education. Just another way around things I guess. I know I'm getting old but it basically in the next 3-5 years all the top probably 200 kids will be at schools like this. I was able to go see Shaw at a high school game against my son's high school in regionals this year. Pretty soon these guys won't be playing high school ball at all.

For some reason, the suspense of who we sign is killing me this year. Probably because we have had so many great players actually visit us this year. If we somehow strike out this year. McCaffery really has to consider adding someone to his staff under the age of 60 that can sell the Iowa program to these young men.
