2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

It has been quite the week for CB Lincoln 2022 three-star guard Josh Dix.

Wake Forest, Purdue, and now Iowa have offered Dix.

Check out the dates/times of those offers

Fran already recruited Iowa heavily, but I think you are going to see him double down on Iowa players with the new transfer rules. Iowa boys are going to be less likely to transfer out.

My number one want for 2022 is Kyle Filiposki. Bowen is a close 2nd. Then any 2 of Tyler Nickel, Will Shaver, Donavon Clingan, Jaden Schutt, Josh Dix. That would be a class that should make all Hawkeye fans happy and complement the returning players nicely. One can dream, can’t they?

Bowen is definitely a priority

In the new era, I think player retention is going to be as important as player recruitment. It will be more important than ever to find guys who are a good fit — and then keep them happy.

Fran obviously hates the portal.

Fran has brought in 5 transfers in his 11 years at Iowa.

1) Bryce Cartwright played his freshman year of collegiate basketball at Fresno State and sophomore campaign at Paris Junior College in Texas before transferring to Iowa. Cartwright joined already signed Iowa recruits Devyn Marble, Zach McCabe and Melsahn Basabe on the 2010-2011 roster.

2) PG Trey Dickerson committed to Iowa in March, 2014. He transferred from a Junior College in ND (Williston State College) to Iowa. He quit/left the Iowa team on Feb 23, 2015.

3) SF Jarrod Uthoff was originally a Class of 2011 Wisconsin commit; in June, 2012, Jarrod announced that he would transfer to Iowa to spend his next 4 years

4) Dale Jones. Dale spent his first 2 years of college at Tyler Junior College in Texas. On April 20, 2015, it was announced he was transferring to Iowa.

5) PG/SG Bakari Evelyn; a Valparaiso Grad Transfer; committed to the Hawkeyes on June 9, 2019 and had one year of eligibility with Iowa. In his one year he played in all 31 games and averaged 18 minutes and 8.1 ppg.

Tell that to Alex Thompson, the one that got away....

Josh also received an offer from Purdue. I don't know much about him but I hope he can take a defender off the dribble, create his own shot and play some defense.

See above, on this page.

In the last week, Josh Dix has offers from Wake Forest, Purdue & Iowa.

Also, watch the highlight videos I posted.

Great week for him!

Also the juco who didn’t last through the summer. And the other juco with the bad knees.

When you include JUCO's.... ;)

6) If you include Hubbard given he transferred to Iowa from a JUCO -Fredrick Community College in Spring 2011. We all know how that turned out but he did play for Morgan State in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

That's roughly one every two years. He clearly not a fan but he's leveraged it some. And he is now being forced to do so a lot more from here on out.

April 22, 2021 Update:

With the Filip Rebraca & CJ Fredrick news (he gone) and the commitment (and reclassification to 2021) from 3 star Center Riley Mulvey, we currently have 3 scholarships left for the 2022 class. In Men's basketball, of course, you can have 13 on scholarship.

ONE ADDITIONAL THING TO MONITOR: due to covid-19, 2020-2021 was considered a "free year" by the NCAA, so seniors Luka Garza and Jordan Bohannon could have come back for the 2021-2022 season. So, anyone listed below (with the exception of Filip Rebraca) as SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND SENIORS could potentially play/graduate a year later than CURRENTLY expected.

2022-2023 Roster (10 on Scholarship; 3 scholarships available):

FRESHMEN: 0 players

SOPHOMORES: 2 players

6'7" F Payton Sandfort (***)

6'11" C Riley Mulvey (***)

JUNIORS: 6 players

6'11" C Josh Ogundele (***)

6'4" G Tony Perkins (***)

6'2" G Ahron Ulis (***)

6'8" F Keegan Murray (Not Rated)

6'8" F Kris Murray (Not Rated)

6'9" SF Patrick McCaffery (****)

SENIORS: 2 players

5'10" PG Joe Toussaint (***)

6'9" SF Filip Rebraca (this includes the covid-19 free year that all 2020-2021 athletes were given)

I think this means that Nickel, Bowen, and one of Reed/Flipowski/Shaver need to be the additions.

Hard to predict with transfers and seniors staying one more year but I think there will be 4 available schollies for 22-23

If a grad transfer has any pro ambitions I doubt that too many of them would take the extra covid year. With all the young talent entering the draft I don't think these players want to be another year older entering the draft. They only have so many years to make the big bucks and the clock is ticking.

My best guess would be: Bowen, Dix, Filipowski...I think the 3 we have the best shot at. That would be a pretty good class.....we don't necessarily need a big forward like Filipowski in that class, but he seems to love Fran and he is a high level recruit.

With 4 we maybe can get Schutt too!
