2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

I don’t count JUCO recruits as transfers personally since they are treated much more like high school recruits compared to someone in the portal.. I would consider a transfer being someone from a 4 year NCAA or NAIA school. This is now Fran’s third one of those.

April 22, 2021 Update:

With the Filip Rebraca & CJ Fredrick news (he gone) and the commitment (and reclassification to 2021) from 3 star Center Riley Mulvey, we currently have 3 scholarships left for the 2022 class. In Men's basketball, of course, you can have 13 on scholarship.

ONE ADDITIONAL THING TO MONITOR: due to covid-19, 2020-2021 was considered a "free year" by the NCAA, so seniors Luka Garza and Jordan Bohannon could have come back for the 2021-2022 season. So, anyone listed below (with the exception of Filip Rebraca) as SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND SENIORS could potentially play/graduate a year later than CURRENTLY expected.

2022-2023 Roster (10 on Scholarship; 3 scholarships available):

FRESHMEN: 0 players

SOPHOMORES: 2 players

6'7" F Payton Sandfort (***)

6'11" C Riley Mulvey (***)

JUNIORS: 6 players

6'11" C Josh Ogundele (***)

6'4" G Tony Perkins (***)

6'2" G Ahron Ulis (***)

6'8" F Keegan Murray (Not Rated)

6'8" F Kris Murray (Not Rated)

6'9" SF Patrick McCaffery (****)

SENIORS: 2 players

5'10" PG Joe Toussaint (***)

6'9" SF Filip Rebraca (this includes the covid-19 free year that all 2020-2021 athletes were given)
And odds are that Filip will be gone before Filipowski gets to Iowa, right?

Filip is projected to be a senior when Filipowski would be a freshman

How many schollies does Iowa have to fill if he plays 2 years?

If Josh O. uses last year as a covid/redshirt year, it reduces that 6 player class to 5 and helps balance the classes a little better. This also assumes Keegan plays at least 2 more years. Patrick will probably graduate after his junior year. It will be his 4th academic year. He could possibly play his grad year having Fran pay and freeing up another scholarship. Lots of scenarios could play out.

I have said it before. It's just a big jig saw puzzle. Heck, its tough enough to figure out this fall's roster let alone the roster for 2022-2023.

Imagine what it's like with Iowa football where they have to manage 85 scholarships, who's going, who's coming, and all of the walk ons.

Are you serious? Cause if so that is some breaking news and serious stuff.

yeah, unless he has a crazy good 1st year at Iowa where the NBA comes calling, the plan is that he is at Iowa for 2 years

And Filip already has his undergraduate degree (he got it in 3 years so he's a smart kid).

This is from his former head coach.

Well getting two years out of this guy is huge, especially in his 2nd year. We will have a formidable front line.

Another good FREE story from today (April 24).

As you can see, Tyler plans on deciding on Sep 5, his birthday.

It will be another recruiting battle for Fran, with many schools going after Tyler.

Can Fran close the deal on this one?

Donovan Clingan (See #9 in Orig Post)
C, 7'1", 250, Bristol, CT

Donovan is up to 14 offers, according to Rivals, including:
Iowa
Michigan State
Ohio State
Maryland
Rutgers
Notre Dame
Virginia Tech
Syracuse
Georgetown
UConn
Boston College

With likely 3 scholarships to give in 2022 for now, it could present some interesting decisions. I think Desonte Bowen is a must. That means you can only take 2 of the following. Josh Dix, Tyler Nickel, Kyle Filiposki, Donovan Clingan, Will Shaver and Jaden Shutte among others. After Bowen I think we need a scoring wing and another big. It is nice that this many quality players are considering us. Who do you think we should take?

PG Dasonte Bowen
Forward Tyler Nickel

and take your pick for the 3rd. Lots of options for Fran based on roster turnover

Take any combo of those 3 if they are willing to commit.

yeah, Fran has a lot of options.

every time there is a roster movement, I adjust the thread title so right now, as you can see, we have 3 scholarships available; that could change, of course, based on the damn transfer portal.

So much depends on how the younger players we have now develop this season. I’d agree that best case scenario is you take any 3 that commit first. If I’d get to pick I’d want Desonte, Nickel, Filipowski, and Dix, but I’d not be disappointed with anyone on that list and including Tarris Reed

As we have been discussing in this thread since June of last year....

I think the PG, Dasonte Bowen, is a must.

They really seem to want Tyler Nickel but there are many schools after him

Filipowski has shown Iowa some recent love

Bottom line is that Fran has a lot of options; he just has to close the deal

This would be my first choice....PG-Bowen, 2g Schutte, Filipowski

This is who I would take a wild aZZ guess that we can get: Bowen, Dix, and Filipowski.

I would take that in a minute.......I see a lot of bigtime programs starting to pour in on Filipowski so our chances might be diminishing there.

We need a dynamic player/athlete like Bowen, a good shooter (Dix or Schutte) and then a guy like Filipowski who s a true stretch 4 and can provide help in the post if needed...and is very talented.

I kind of had forgotten about Schutt, who I wrote about in the orig post back in June, 2020.

Can you believe we have been discussing this recruiting class for almost a year now? ;)

Its gonna be interesting to see how this all shakes out. Official visits can start on June 1. Fran simply needs to close the deal on some of these guys.

2 Years of Rebraca gives a little cushion if we miss on all of our bigs. I would love to land Filiposki. If we get Bowen and Nickel and only have one more scholarship, I would rather get Filiposki than Dix. I would hate to lose Dix but I think Filipowski is going to blow up. I think Nickel will add valuable shooting that will open things up.

Not liking our chances with Nickel and Bowen as much as I liked before. Just a hunch we will miss on these guys. Yeah that is a negative take, but to me Nickel is going to stay east coast. Bowen has not said anything about Iowa or tweeted anything about them for a while.

I like this Trimble offer and the Dix offer. Both would fit with our current roster nicely. Then we take another big or wing and we are set.

Trimble is a typical ISU type guard and a Wisconsin native. Wisconsin just took a PG in the 2020 class that is going to play and have a solid 4 year career (Hepburn). and ISU just landed 2 guards in the 2022 class. That means we have a shot here. But it is new territory for our staff to try to land someone like that from another state, especially at PG.

Dix is a mix between a Bohannon/ Wieskamp type player. He may even be more explosive than those 2. I think he is a great target at the 2.

It is interesting how yesterday we offer another PG (Seth Trimble). It does make you wonder what is up w/ PG Dasonte Bowen

Can we pry Trimble out of the state of Wisconsin?
