We currently have 2 scholarships available for the 2024 class. This number, of course, will change as players commit to the 2023 & 2024 classes and as players come and go via the Transfer Portal or leave early for the NBA Draft.

The covid "free year" issue: at one time we had 6 players scheduled to graduate/be done in May, 2024: Keegan Murray (entered 2022 NBA Draft), Josh Ogundele (entered transfer portal), Ahron Ulis (entered transfer portal), Kris Murray (declared for the 2023 NBA Draft), Tony Perkins and Patrick McCaffery. Will Tony and/or PMac take advantage of the free, additional covid year and return for the 2024-2025 season? If so, they would count against the 13 scholarship limit. Stay tuned.

In Men's basketball, of course, you can have 13 on scholarship.

Didn't expect him to come to Iowa, but happy we won't be seeing him in the Big Ten.

UNC is off to a great start for their 2024 class. I see one site with North Carolina as the current #1 ranked recruiting class for 2024.

IOWA currently has 4 scholarships to fill for the 2024 class. Hopefully IOWA soon adds to its 2024 class & gets some recruiting momentum going. Cooper Koch committed to Iowa on June 23, 2022; that seems like a LONG time ago.

Luke Bamgboye was offer #24 of the 27 total offers Iowa has given in the 2024 class. Iowa offered on July 26, 2022.

I saw a report with some interesting updates:

* He's hearing a lot from Xavier and Iowa

* He hasn't set any official visits yet

* He took one unofficial visit to Arizona State.

* Fran has told him that he likes how he plays hard, plays every possession, rebounds and block shots.

* Luke is very aware of how Iowa developed Luka Garza and Fran has showed him how they develop bigs and how they run a lot of stuff through them.

Check this out & watch:

Jackson McAndrew was offer #27 of the 27 total offers Fran has given out for the 2024 class. Iowa offered on Nov 1, 2022)

Plymouth, MN is a short 25 minute drive to Williams Arena.

Wisconsin has been recruiting him for a long time. However, as you will see below, he wants to play for a team that plays with tempo.

The latest on him:

“I have been talking with Xavier and Iowa about going on official visits there in the future,” McAndrew said. “We haven’t set the dates yet.”

Iowa: “Overall, they have a great basketball program and a great coaching staff. The facilities and campus are nice as well. My relationship with the staff is good, my lead recruiter is Coach (Sherman) Dillard. They like my game a lot, like my elite shooting ability and versatility. They think it fits very well in their style of play. I agree with it and can see myself fitting into their system very well.”

“I don’t really have a timeframe as of now,” McAndrew said. “I’m still pretty open and want to get on some more visits to feel things out. But I will probably commit sometime during the summer.

“I am most looking for a school that has a good team culture where I feel most wanted and comfortable. Also, a coaching staff that I know and trust will be a huge part of it. Players that are there and will be going there will have an impact as well. These visits help give me a feel for this and allow me to go more in-depth with it.

“The play style that I think best fits me is one where I will be put into a position to dribble, pass, and shoot. Also, a team that plays with good tempo and spaces the floor well. Obviously, I would love to play right away, but I also understand that it needs to be earned, so the development piece is very important.”

Young man looks like he's pretty comfortable using either hand around the basket. Wow, he's playing against much smaller competition in these highlights.

God bless Fran and his staff but they simply lose the cream of the crop recruits. You’ve gotta have at least 2, if not three, difference makers for the Big 10 season and NCAA tournament. We seldom have ONE of this type player who can score when all the chips are down. On the other side of the ball, we are consistently overmatched on defense. Perhaps its time to focus on more well rounded players on both sides of the ball. Whether Fran can do this would remain to be seen. Unfortunately, he’s proven that a team loaded with so-called shooters cannot compete against good teams sprinkled with good 3 pt. shooters. With that said, Go Hawks, Go Fran!!!

With all due respect to the players we are currently pursuing, could we just once in awhile go after grown men who are physically developed instead of young men who all need to add 30 pounds to play successfully in the B1G? Every year we are the least physical team in the league and I think part of the usual swoon at the end of the season is due to our guys just getting worn down.

I saw another report stating that Jackson McAndrew visited Iowa last fall for an unofficial visit and has set another game day visit to Iowa City. He is also talking about making an official visit.

Jackson is a Minnesota kid, of course, but with the Gophers an absolute mess and Iowa playing a style he likes....

190 lb. Big Ten power forward. Best wishes!

It seems like McAndrew and Cooper Koch are pretty similar players — 6-8 PFs who can shoot with range. Looks like Koch is about 15 pounds heavier, but both pretty skinny.

Interesting to go after two such similar players in the same recruiting class, but I guess it makes sense to get as many talented players as you can, especially with the portal revolving door keeping rosters in flux.

Still, Fran sure loves those skinny guys in the 6-8 to 6-10 range who can shoot a bit.
