I think the Freeman train has passed the station.
Iowa is watching but has not offered Ty Davis. Fran was watching him in AAU games on July 7, 2022. The Iowa coaches watched his AAU game on April 21, 2023 and are reportedly "seriously involved." He is a 6’4 PG with a 4.05 GPA. He plays at Mountain Brook HS, which is in Alabama. His AAU team is ProOne Basketball.
His thoughts on Iowa:
"Courtney Eldridge came down to watch me play in my high school final four game while I was competing for a state championship. When they played in Birmingham for the NCAA Tournament, I went to their open practice. Fran McCaffery is awesome. I just have not had time to get up to campus. They value skilled guys who can shoot so when I look at the guys that they have, I feel I would fit right in."
Except a team that was moving in the opposite direction from the Hawks at the end of last season.Hoiberg must be one heck of a salesman because Nebraska has very little that should be attractive to a player IMO.
It's disheartening to read all of fran's dissertations on players that Iowa has "reached out to" and "keeping and eye on," and then look at the highly ranked players Iowa State has already had commit to them, especially when you consider what the Big 12 may turn into once Texas and Oklahoma bounce to the SEC. This was a team that had hit the absolute depths a couple of years ago and now they seem to be an attractive landing spot to some very highly rated players. Meanwhile, we're in the solid B1G, with all the tradition and all the conference money pouring in and we're hoping to attract 3* players. Changes are needed if we are going to remain relevant.
This might be a hot take--but Houston is just as good of a basketball school as Texas is currently and Cincinatti has some past history of being a decent basketball school. I think the Big 12 actually gets better with the team changes. Cole Certa feels good about Iowa:
‘Iowa: "I loved my visit and they have a really good program. They play the right way. Their players shoot it really well. I feel that is a program I can fit with."’
Yeah…I also don’t get the Iowa State appeal/interest? I also thought I had heard they didn’t have a really strong NIL program…or is that not the case? It's disheartening to read all of fran's dissertations on players that Iowa has "reached out to" and "keeping and eye on," and then look at the highly ranked players Iowa State has already had commit to them, especially when you consider what the Big 12 may turn into once Texas and Oklahoma bounce to the SEC. Not surprised he dropped, committed to Iowa. ESecPN. They hate giving the BIG any credit.April 21 Rankings.
Cooper comes in at #97
Big Honor for Cooper Koch, getting selected to go Italy to play at Adidas' Euro Camp.
Koch seems to be a really good spot up shooter. Any info on his ability to rebound and play interior defense? Is he done growing? Looks like a stretch four, which fits a need, allowing the Sanforts to stick primarily at 3.
Especially Iowa. Not surprised he dropped, committed to Iowa. ESecPN. They hate giving the BIG any credit.
