Iowa offered Donnie Freeman on July 11, 2022.

He took an OFFICIAL visit the weekend of Sat Sep 17, 2022 (Nevada football game).

Unfortunately all of the Rivals Publishers and Analysts who have made a prediction have predicted that he is heading to Syracuse.

He would be a great fit for the Hawkeyes, but he’d likely only play here 2 years before going to the league . He is the recruit I have wanted most since we lost Filipowski to Duke. I’m speaking of Donnie Freeman.

I predicted that ship had sailed weeks ago.

Weeks ago? The predictions on Donnie Freeman from the recruiting experts did not start coming in until April 24, 2023, so if you were predicting anything prior to April 24 (exactly 2 weeks ago) you were simply guessing; anyone could have guessed that a 4 star and #54 ranked player in the nation was not coming to Iowa.

Here is the prediction timeline that he was going to Syracuse, from the recruiting experts:

April 24, 2023:
Andrew Barth (Staff writer/analyst for the Syracuse Rivals site) & Richard Schnyderite (Publisher of the Rutgers Rivals site) put in their predictions for Syracuse

Yesterday, May 7, Jackson Collier (Rivals BB Recruiting Analyst) put in his prediction for Syracuse

Fran, I think that's what Gunner says he did...

Now that Donnie Freeman is off the board (heading to Syracuse), it will be interesting to see what happens with 3 of his AAU teammates who Iowa has also offered.

Keep in mind Iowa may only have 1 more scholarship to give if PMac and Tony return for 2024-2025.

Class of 2024 AAU Teammates on Team Takeover:

Garrett Sundra (Iowa offered on Oct 27, 2022)
Patrick Ngongba (Iowa offered on July 11, 2022)
Nate Guerengomba (Iowa offered on June 22, 2022)
Donnie Freeman (Iowa offered July 11, 2022)

Fran watched Sundra, Ngongba, Guerengomba and Freeman's AAU game on April 22, 2023.

The original post has been updated.

As you can see, Fran has extended 31 offers so far for the 2024 class.

* 10 of the 31 have visited Iowa City (2 officially, 8 unofficially)

* 1 has committed to Iowa (Cooper Koch)
* 11 have committed elsewhere
* 19 are still undecided

Recently offered guard has Iowa in his top 8.

It will be interesting to see if we get Taj and his AAU teammate (Pharaoh Compton) to visit. Fran offered both on May 4th.

For 2023, Taj DeGourville & Pharaoh Compton are teammates on the Vegas Elite AAU team of the Nike circuit.

(Offer #30) Taj DeGourville (Iowa offered on May 4, 2023)

SG, 6'4, Las Vegas, NV (Durango HS)

(Offer #31) Pharaoh Compton (Iowa offered on May 4, 2023)

PF, 6'8, 216, Chandler, AZ (Arizona Compass Prep School)

On March 22 Arkansas State hired Alabama assistant Bryan Hodgson. Based on the info that follows, it appears Donnie was heading to Alabama prior to March 22 (because of Bryan Hodgson).

So, since he picked Syracuse, I guess you could say Iowa finished 3rd, 4th or 5th ;)

Iowa offered Caden Diggs on May 3, 2023.

His recent AAU play has garnered him a lot of attention.

"I am a versatile wing that can defend really well," Diggs described of his game. "I like getting to my mid-range a lot and I like getting out in transition."

The one key area for improvement in Diggs' game is improving his long-range jumper, an area he is already working on to take his game to the next level.

“Expanding my range and I am trying to transition into a guard," he said of what he is currently working on.

Since being able to compete in front of college coaches in two different live periods this April, he has been hearing from a handful of mid- and high-major programs.

"Saint Joseph’s, Iowa has reached out, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and many more A-10s," he said of who he has been hearing from.

Iowa: “They have been telling me they like my game, they play freely like I do and that I am a big forward.”

Oklahoma State: "They said they are watching closely and trying to further the process."

Saint Joseph's: “I like them a lot. Erik Reynolds went to the school I go to currently - Bullis. I am very interested in them. I will take a visit to them.”

Texas Tech: “They say they like my versatility, how much I compete.”

Diggs' recruitment is still in the early stages as schools are beginning to reach out and he has yet to take his first official visit.

So far Diggs has taken three unofficial to Virginia Tech, Xavier and Richmond
as he continues his search of his future home.

“A place where I can make an impact early, where I can workout on the wing and a team that gets up and down," he said of what he is looking for in a school.

I had heard Texas for quite some time until the recent Syracuse news. I think the Hawks were on the outside looking-in for months. Making a players final five means nothing, I think Iowa was third or fourth in the pecking order, unfortunately.

Actually, Texas (just like Iowa) finished no better than 3rd in Donnie's recruitment.

Donnie was heading to Alabama prior to March 22 because of his relationship with Alabama Asst Coach Bryan Hodgson. On March 22 Arkansas State hired Bryan Hodgson, which changed everything.

So, his 1st choice was Alabama and his 2nd and final choice was Syracuse.

Iowa has been watching (but has not offered) Jaheem Webber, a 6'10, 230 lb F/C out of Normal, IL.

He visited Iowa City the weekend of Oct 29, 2022 (the Northwestern game).

His AAU team is Mid Pro Academy (Owen Freeman & Brock Harding's AAU team).

Rivals shows him with 6 offers: Southern Illinois, Siena, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, DePaul and Bradley.

Iowa offered 6'10 center Patrick Ngongba on July 11, 2022.

Patrick, Nate Guerengomba, Garrett Sundra, and Donnie Freeman (Syracuse commit) are AAU teammates; Frans has offered all of them. Fran watched their AAU game on April 22, 2023 (their AAU team is Team Takeover).

His thoughts on Iowa: “The head coach (Fran McCaffery) came all the way to our school just to meet with me and talk with me. That meant a lot just for him to come out, we didn’t have a practice or anything, just had a meeting and talked. They like to switch it up sometimes and let their bigs be versatile. He said their plan was to play me inside but run me out to the wing so and confuse the defender. Very versatile.”

The original post has been updated. Darrion is offer #32 for the 2024 class.

Darrion is having a great AAU season so far; the offers are rolling in as a result. Rivals has him with 28 offers so far, including Iowa, Creighton, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers, St Johns, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Miss State, Missouri, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech.

I don't care which Fran responds, but why is Iowa going after every player that is over 6-8? Unless multiply front line players are expected to leaving after this coming year it doesn't make any sense having over 2/3's of your roster 6 - 8 or taller unless they play point guard or shooting guard. Is that the case?
Fran "the coach" hasn't won a Big Ten season Championship or reached the second week of the NCAA tournament with any player that he has recruited that excelled on the front line in any of the 13 years he's been at Iowa....not one. Not Aaron White, not Jarrod Uthoff, not Ryan Kriener, not Jack Nunge, not Tyler Cook, not Adam Woodbury, not Cordell Pemsl, not the great Luka Garza, or even the twin Murry boys.
Championship teams win with great GUARDS.
You would think that Fran being a guard in his college days would have figured that out by now, why it would take this long to bring in Desonte Bowen, Brock Harding, and Amarion Nimmers, players that are fast, quick, and creative is beyond me, but it appears that Fran is following the same play book that he has followed his entire time at Iowa.
It hasn't worked and there is no indication that it will work in the near future.
The MAC conference is not going to to be the answer and most on here should know that....

Harding and Nimmers. Of course. If their families don't have a restraining order against you it would be a surprise.

To be fair, Fran has all kinds of success at Iowa. Not the kind of success you want and I would certainly like to see a
BIG championship and more than one game in the NCAA's. But the truth is Fran has been successful at Iowa.

Iowa offered 6'8 PF Jackson McAndrew on Nov 1, 2022. He's from Plymouth, MN, a short drive from Williams Arena.

Jackson unofficially visited March 5, 2023.

Sherman Dillard is the lead recruiter. His AAU team is Howard Pulley. An Iowa coach watched his AAU game on April 21, 2023. Fran watched his AAU game the next day, on April 22, 2023.

"I set two official visits to Xavier (June 12-13) and Notre Dame (June 18-19)," McAndrew added. "I am talking to some other schools about taking some officials as well. I may go officially or unofficially to Wisconsin, Iowa, Virginia Tech and Creighton."

Regarding Iowa: "They really think I am a perfect fit for their play-style. They play up-tempo and everyone can dribble, pass and shoot. They love to get up and down. I built a good relationship with coach McCaffery and coach Dillard. They're just saying how much they're prioritizing me and how much they want me."

It will be interesting to see if we get Pat to visit.

this year roster is pretty well rounded.
pg 6'2 SO Bowen backup 6'1 Harding
sg 6'4 Perkins backup 6'5 Dix
sf 6'9 Patrick backups 6'7 and 6'7 Sanforts
pf 6'9 Brauns backup 6'9 Dembele
c 7' Mulvey backups 6'9 Krikke and 6'11 Freeman

that's about as balanced as the 2012 group. now if you are going to bitch about this team go follow some body else. because no matter what Fran does it will make you happy,

frankly you make me sick with all your bitching all the time.

yes virginia there is a Santa Claus but for you he is that Satan Clause.

until Pat and Perkins declare one way or another it is foolish to speculate. I am interested in the 1 scholarship that is known to be open,

the unfilled scholarship from the 23 class.

I consider Cooper a nice replacement for Krikke, or Patrick if he leaves. so either way Fran is covering up his losses.

When facts don't support your opinion...... resort to name calling. Glad I don't need to do that to divert away from the facts.
