This is quite literally the definition of a trap game. I agree, it's probably the biggest one there is.This is the biggest trap game we've had in years, but it sounds like the players and coaches realize that and are giving Rutgers their full focus. Hopefully we take care of business early on.
If we win, Sunday's atmosphere will almost certainly be the best we've seen since Megan's jersey retirement. That would be a great game for our top recruiting targets to experience. I recall the crowd for the jersey retirement was part of the reason Affolter committed.
The two areas that make me feel a little better about this game are: that 1) Rutgers' defense probably isn't quite as good as Northwestern's (NW gives up more points, but part of that is pace. Rutgers doesn't turn teams over or block shots at NW's level), and 2) Most of our games in Big Ten play have been shootouts, and the games Rutgers keeps close tend to be low scoring.I don't care how "bad" Rutgers has been this year -- this game scares the crap out of me. We have a tendency to get a bit thrown off against physical teams and we haven't won at Rutgers since the 2017-2018 season. Ohio State is the team most similar to us in terms of offensive/defensive balance, and Rutgers played them quite close in both matches this year. Most recently, Rutgers led OSU 35-27 at half before losing by 4. They've also shown a few more signs of life recently, having won 2 of their last 3 after going winless for the majority of conference play.
Blunder said yesterday over 12,000 tickets have been sold.
Rats, I'll have to get there really early or park really far.Blunder said yesterday over 12,000 tickets have been sold.
That's overblowing it a little bit. Since Rutgers joined the Big Ten in the 2014-15 season, Rutgers has beaten Iowa only once, in Kathleen Doyle's senior season, at Rutgers in overtime, in the last game of the regular season. That's the game when the then freshman Marshall showed us her prowess at 3-point shooting. Iowa was pretty good that year and was in consideration for hosting had the NCAA tourney not been cancelled. However, Iowa was stumbling a bit toward the end of the season and got blown out by Ohio State in the Big Ten tournament, down by as many as 30 points during the game.I don't care how "bad" Rutgers has been this year -- this game scares the crap out of me. I'm also encouraged that we beat Rutgers twice last year. Neither of those games were at Rutgers, but last year's Rutgers team was much, much more talent than this year's team while still playing the physical defense-first style. That's overblowing it a little bit. Didn't know it was going to be Girl Scout Day too. There's always a bunch of them and they always bring that little kid energy with all their posters. It's Girl Scout Day, too. Girl Scouts and families get to meet the coaches and players two hours before the game. And free tickets for the scouts!
I will never forget the Girl Scout Day game with Purdue a number of years ago. A huge contingent of them chanted Thin Mints Thin Mints during every Boilermaker free throw. It sounded like they were saying Miss Miss and totally freaked out the Purdue players.Didn't know it was going to be Girl Scout Day too. 15.5? Rutgers plays slow, so we won't have as many opportunities, but we sure are throwing it away early.Over/Under on Iowa turnovers in this game??
Rutgers gave Ohio State a good game so I wouldn't say they are the most incompetent teamForced shots
At least 3 or 4 turnovers mid way through the 1st. Losing by 1 to one of the most incompetent teams I have seen.
I am sure we will get it going though.
Is Pauley and the DP crew there? They love Clark.
BAU.More turnovers than points?
72Over/Under on Iowa turnovers in this game??
I’d probably take the over at this point
Against the elite teams, our turnovers easily lose us the game by 15+. Look at the UConn Sweet 16 game.Come tourney time, sloppy ball handling will be just as fatal as poor rebounding .
