24 hours later, a deep breath, season recap and state of the program

Good analysis,dirk.

I said coming into this season that making the tourny would be critical to maintain momentum in the Fran re-build at Iowa.
We made it easily, despite our lack of returning scorers, outside of JU. Jok came thru, bigtime.
Now, we will be shooting for a NIT bid next year....acceptable. If we do better...great surprise.

My concern remains at the pg spot....hope we can find a transfer or juco, assuming someone leaves.

Overall, Fran has done a solid job of resurrecting the program.
He came in and made lemonade out of talent that did not really fit his style. Fran 2.0 needs to feature quick, long athletes who can run all day and press all day and still knock down shots. Nova-like.
His success at Iowa will depend on getting the critical mass of those kinds of out of state talents to augment local shooters.
So far...he has not landed enough of them but jury still out.

Sure they got blown out but really the ended up about where I expected at the beginning of the season. I thought they would be a team that would get a seed somewhere from 7-10 maybe win a game in the tournament and that is exactly what they did. Look at the talent that Villanova had compared to Iowa and tell me Iowa was actually won of the top teams in the country... they weren't. They just had a stretch where they played over their heads. They have been to 3 straight tournaments. The problem is that at this point they should have better players than they do. They need an upgrade in talent to get to another level.

That sure was some "ugly basketball" that Jay Wright had his guys playing ...

I'm glad you finally agree. Villanova had the easiest road to the sweet sixteen and once they face some real competition they will get knocked out. happens every year.
