8 Iowa vs 9 Auburn @ 6:50pm Thur

Iowa fans for the last week: “I hope we get bracketed to play in Des Moines … Even if we’re on the 8/9 line, it would be great to get to play close to home!”

Iowa fans today: “It is SO UNFAIR for a team to get bracketed at a place close to home, especially if they are only an 8/9 seed!”
I guess the Big Ten conference scheduling Iowa to play at Indiana late in the season was so much of a disadvantage for Iowa. I believe Indiana had the crowd advantage in that game too. How'd that work out for Indiana?

Auburn has been playing pretty poor basketball these past couple months and limped into the dance. They are not a good 3pt shooting team. This game is very winnable for Iowa despite the location. Houston is a pretty good team with great guard play which isn't typically good for Iowa. However who really knows. All season Iowa has played both up to its competition and down to its competition. It wouldn't shock me if Iowa got blown out by Auburn anymore than shocking me by stumbling to the Sweet 16 this year. This years team has been a giant wtf is going on.

Andy Katz calling it now - IA gets to the Sweet 16. LOL!

I think Rafael Davis echoed that same sentiment but he was vague.

I won't even worry about Katz' pick as being a possible "kiss of death".

He's too much of an over-excitable idiot to be taken seriously by anyone.

Anyone else get the urge to throw up if you watch Katz for more than a few sentences? During the BTT, Davis made a comment (can't even remember the game), and Katz immediately disagreed with him, going on and on for about 30 sec. The look on Rafael's face was great.

I have decided to not only take Iowa to the Sweet 16, but to beat IU for the third time to go to the Elite 8. Who is Woodson's daddy? I don't follow the teams around the country enough to do well with my picks anymore, so why not? I do think Iowa got as good a placement for a 8/9 as you could expect. I'm still trying to figure out how Auburn was given a 9, with their ordinal ranking and how it ended up so close to home...

As noted, we should be a roughly 50/50 pick with Auburn, and then are in the bracket with the most vulnerable #1, with one of their better players out. Auburn should not be playing near home, but on paper, this is not a bad draw.
Sasser says he’s fine. Houston is the only team in the entire tournament that is minus money to make the elite eight. And why are they vulnerable again?!?

If Iowa plays up to their competition like they have several times this season and gets to the Houston game I like Iowa's punchers chance. The American is down this year and Houston really hasn't been tested much since the non conference. Their best wins on the year are Virginia and Saint Mary's. They have great guard play which usually doesn't bode well for Iowa however. That said Iowa has to first beat a struggling Auburn team.

I'd imagine many Bama fans bought up these tickets ahead of time, not Auburn fans. Bama fans do not like Auburn fans, just saying. We might have some extra voices on our side.
Alabama playing in the early session. Hopefully they don’t sell their late session tickets to Auburn fans at a huge profit. Who’s on the committee that gave both Alabama and Auburn basically a home game?

Are you trying to say that Iowa fans were hoping to get an unfair home court advantage rather than playing at a team with an unfair home court advantage?
That is shocking!!!! I know of no other fan base that would do that. What a horrible look for Iowa fans.

If you were just attempting to point out their viewpoint than accept my apologies. Looking for the next ‘water is wet’ commentary

I heard Fran chased the committee into the hallway and called them all "motherf*cking cheating c*cks*ckers!"

So we've got that going for us...which is nice.

You didn’t even quote the whole post…

Plus, did you watch Iowa play this year?

But first you talk about what is needed “to get to the Sweet 16” and then say that is almost impossible to do for 3 plus games.

We’d only have to do it for 2 games.

Um.....vs. Auburn.....in Alabama. Virtually a home game for them.
My thoughts exactly. We have to play a higher seed in their back yard. Notice both Iowa and Iowa State didn't get Des Moines, total bull shit. That is why attendance isn't great. Good ole MSU gets Columbus, five hours from home.

I don’t get why people underestimate Auburn getting to play in Birmingham?

It’s exactly like Iowa playing in DSM. So a 9 seeds gets that luck but not an 8 seed?

More like Iowa playing in Ames, but yeah.

In that scenario, don't you think there would be thousands of Cyclone fans cheering against the Hawks?

I had heard Sasser is hurt, but I didn't follow up on that info, even though I live in Houston. If the Hawks can't win, I would love to see Houston win it all, instead of one of the usual blue bloods.

If you throw out enough stupid predictions, you’ll get a few right

Exactly, both Katz and Davis has Purdue winning it all too.

In fact, I don't think Katz has any B1G losing in the first weekend (might be an exaggeration but generally correct). They're pushing the B1G teams on the BTN understandably.

I have always wondered how Andy Katz keeps his job and some even listen to his blabbering of "inside information". I happened to also pick Iowa to move on, just because it makes the tournament more fun. Hawks are so unpredictable, that picking them to win or lose is a crap shoot.

In the past I was pretty good at picking, but in the past few years, I watch mostly just B1G, so I don't know much otherwise. I think I won the last bracket challenge that this site sponsored, maybe about 10 years ago. That was fun, but probably required a lot of work by the moderators.

lol Do you honestly consider your take a positive one?
I’m not really sure what take of mine you are referring to.

If it’s my disgust with negative people, yes, I see that as positive, fighting negativity and victim status celebration.

If it’s some other take of mine, then please clarify that.
