A new GOP House proposal is set to ban trans women from women's bathrooms at the capitol building to target first trans Rep, Sarah McBride

The average person wouldn't care which bathroom a trans person uses if Republicans didn't pretend that this was some crisis that needed addressed.

Which goes back to my original point that Republicans would rather focus on culture war crap than actually tackling the issues impacting average people.
Or maybe they are taking care of both issues.
But back to my point, average people do care about trans people. It is not normal for someone to be born a certain sex and change to the opposite sex. The average person leaves things alone and doesn’t make drastic changes.

Ridiculous statements such as the one above diminish the point you’re attempting to make down to zero.
Why is it ridiculous? He's being sarcastic. Please elaborate as to why this isn't dramatized. Something that affects next to nobody in our population became a major political talking point. That was absolutely dramatized. In Iowa we had the stupid Miller-Meeks ads with her watching girls soccer games, protecting them from trans kids. That ad was RIDICULOUS.

Well it is still being done for the average person. The average person isn’t trans and doesn’t want to cater for such a small group of people.
If it is such a small group of people, why are we making exceptions for them. Some instances creating new restrooms for a small amount of people.
Just to clarify - this isn’t a bill, it’s something she wants to add to the House rules package for the new congress. It is not being done for America in general.

I mean, where is she supposed to go to the bathroom then? She obviously doesn’t look anything like a dude.

I don’t understand why people make a big deal of stupid shit like that.
why is this a hill D's want to die on?
HE/SHE/THey has a bathroom in their office. They have either sex bathrooms around the building. Why then, does this need to be a thing?

Oh okay, so it's not even about which bathroom a trans person uses. You just think trans people shouldn't be trans (which I hate to break it to you bud but that's not an opinion the average person holds).

Do you realize how large the Capitol building complex is? The main chamber for example is not exactly a short walk for anyone.

Also, here’s a post of Maces from ‘21. Seems to contradict what she wants now.

“The pandemic kept all of us from fully celebrating Pride here in the Lowcountry in 2020. Had to copy and paste.

But hopefully, as we finally begin to open back up, we can all come together to celebrate the challenges our LGBTQ+ has overcome, and the bright future ahead. #PrideMonth #Pride2021”

For almost 250 years women in the United States have been sharing public restrooms with trans women. It's not something new that started in the 2000s, why the need to make drastic changes to bathroom laws now?
well the first public restroom in the US had only been around for roughly 150 years and the first trans people haven’t been around that long either. I believe I saw an article that said the first male dressing up as a female (by no means trans) was around 130 years ago.
Usually when something starts to become an issue, it is best to address it at that point and not wait until it is too late and it becomes a bigger problem. My guess is that this topic is coming up more often and they want to get out in front of it.

Is it normal for men to rape women?

For many of us, that’s not “normal “.

It’s not “normal “ nor accepted for men to assault women, but I would venture a guess that there are more rapists roaming around, than there are transgender.

A transvestite is not the same as trans gender.

It’s fine to have your opinion, but judging is not okay. We all judge others, but how many have “walked a mile in some else’s shoes”

Oh I get it. If people don’t want to allow trans females to play female sports it’s not a big issue because it’s such a small group.
If someone tries to pass a bill not allowing a trans female to use a female restroom, well that’s a big deal because that’s not an option of the average person.
I have news for you, the average person doesn’t think a male should play female sports.

There are also laws that punish people for raping women. Do you want laws that put people in jail for being transgender? Talk about giving it to the transgender community.

I walk in my own shoes every day. You have no idea what 90% of people go through on a daily basis.

OMG. You can’t be that naive.

You are confusing transgender with transvestism. And, I hate to tell you, it’s been around forever. What do you think Greeks and Romans were doing? Just hanging out drinking wine?

Again, this isn’t a bill being proposed. This is a rule she’s trying to get added for the next congress.

Are you sure the first public restroom was created in the US only 150 years ago? I'd imagine there was a lot of outhouse sharing back in the beginning, but that is beside the point. Transgender people have been around since at least Ancient Greece.

Back to the point, what has happened in public restrooms in the recent past that has spurred this urgent need to protect women?

It was a contrived grievance to help Republicans win elections. Worked like a charm.

Good thing we are talking about bills being passed here in America and in 2024.
Not in Greece or along the Mediterranean Sea 250 years ago.

Another famous case, and this is but one.

Georges Sand was a well known author. She always dressed as a man.

Her significant other was Chopin.

Almost everyone involved in the arts knows this. Their relationship was very famous.

Did you skip over the part where I mentioned it is a growing trend and usually you want to get ahead of something before it becomes a bigger issue?
Let’s use are current US leaders as an example.
They continued to let illegals in by the thousands each day. Now our future leaders are having to plan and spend money to try and get them kicked out of the country. Many believe it will lead to violence and possibly death. Don’t you think it should have been addressed 4 years ago and put a stop to it then?
Who am I kidding, you’re a dem, you probably encouraged the illegal activity.

All I'm asking for is a reason we need new bathroom rules. Yes, trans people are more visible now because there was/is more acceptance of differences. That doesn't actually mean their population has grown, just more people are willing to be open about themselves. However, even with the "larger" population there haven't been any proven cases of women being harmed by transgender women using public restrooms. Do you have a link to some I missed?

I have no idea. I don’t understand the whole controversy myself.

It shouldn’t be this big of a deal figuring out where certain people can go potty. If someone has had a full transition to whatever gender or sex, then I don’t see why they should use any other restroom but the one of their new gender/sex. Like I said, I would be uncomfortable if Sarah McBride slid up to a urinal near me and started pissing.

Oh, and I have no clue what “they” means. No clue.

I would guess you need new bathroom rules because this is essentially a new issue. As you mentioned, these people may have existed before but they weren’t out in the open about it and there is a larger population today, and without a doubt some that abuse it. It's a new issue, that’s why they want to make new rules.
I have seen articles about trans women that still have male parts, being in female restrooms/locker rooms being naked with male parts fully exposed. How do you supposed that works with any girls under the age of 18 seeing that? Shouldn’t that be considered indecent exposure? I can’t go walk up to anyone and take my dick out without getting in trouble.
I would assume it is ok because it’s a restroom/locker room. But they need to make new rules because of this type of situation.

I’m confused. I thought Pride represented Gay, Queer, and Lesbian persons?

There should be a solution that is respectful and accommodating to everyone,

This bill has nothing to do with sports.

You've moved from this bill helps the average person so why does it matter, to this bill doesn't impact the average person so why does it matter, to the average person doesn't think trans people should exist, to trans women shouldn't play sports.

If someone is exposing themselves in a women's restroom regardless of gender they have a problem. We have individual stalls. I have never seen anyone male or female exposing any private parts in a public restroom. Locker rooms are a different story and they should be modified or built with privacy in mind even for "normal" athletes. There is no need for any public nudity in them.

I would be interested in reading the articles you mentioned if they talk about public restrooms. Please link them if you can.
