A reason to rethink the 2 pt conversion; it is 1/3 of a TD by going just a few yards

I have almost always been for kicking the extra point and not going for 2 pts until late in the game. In thinking about it most times the offense has to go 50+ yards to get a TD yet they only have to get 2 pts, one third of a TD, by going 3 yards. So if your team scores 3 TDs and makes 3 of the 2 pt conversions you have 24 points. Interesting.

But with Iowa's trouble scoring points or any team averaging only 2.5 TDs a game maybe going for 2 pts might be a good idea. Work up some plays from the 3 yard line iirc and and practice them a lot as 2 pt conversion plays. Two TDs, two 2 pt conversions, and a FG puts your score at 19 points which can put you in a late situation from kicking a FG to win 22-21.

It is somewhat like the HS or small college coach that I read about maybe 10 years who always kicks an onside kick. He broke it down statistically what percent they recovered, how good their defense was if they didnt recover, etc and the numbers favored him doing it. But of course they have changed some of the onside kick rules to make it a little harder to recover.
