Angelo's decision......

For all the reason CA sucks (high crime, high taxes, insane gas prices, hobos as far as the eye can see) I’m spoiled for choices with Mexican food. It’s the best in the country here. There are at 25 amazing places within 20 minutes of my house. Not to mention AT my house, cause the wife’s Latina (no pics).

Have to disagree…Arizona has the best although I am guessing CA has better shrimp/fish tacos. My wife (no pics) is also Latina so have some good cooking at home. My nephews have been staying with me off and on for the past month and they are hooked on Chorizo, Machaca etc.

Two words San Diego.
You two have obviously never been to El Mezcal in Wausau, Wisconsin.

looks like Angelo hurt little Willies feelings.
What did William do?
Watching Angelo destroy Sealy in that video was impressive.
Couldn't help but notice the two announcer's bias for Sealy early in the match.

But the best comment was "the ref should call a stalemate because Sealy can't escape".

If all three make it to campus, and stay, there are going to be a lot of opposing fan bases hating on the Hawks.
they already do

Two words San Diego.
Two more words: cost prohibitive. Got as far as LA during a recent road trip. Regret not spending one more day on the road to check it out. It sounds like a dream down there. Unfortunately if you aren't an international drug smuggler or a movie star, I hear it's a struggle getting by.

Nice. When I was in school Neil Barnes was your guy's hammer. He embarrassed our guy. Fortunately he wrestled up one class, otherwise it woulda been me.
I hope he’s still doing well - he had that brush with leukemia back 18-20 years. I’m unfortunately from the earlier years with Dave Gable’s class, but not a wrestler.

You seem to be on the SFB spectrum.
Fair. But missing a 9 on a 99.9 doesn't equate to (spectrum), like a kid trying to injure multiple competitors. Spin it any way you want. You still can't change the fact that Desanto deliberately tried to injure another competitor (multiple X) Kid is Scum! It really doesn't matter what I think but I do believe TnT are as good as it gets as far as wrestling coaches and really helped Desanto. That being said I will always root for whoever Desanto is wrestling.

never been there. Have heard it is good, but if I eat in Tulsa it is BBQ or steak. Pizza is something that is a last minute grab and go when the boss just doesn't want to cook.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you ever decide to check it out. They do NYC, Detroit, and their own “Tulsa” style; by the slice or a whole pie. I’ve only been to the downtown one but both times I’ve gone it’s been amazing. Get some gelato too.

I have no idea what kind of pizza Casey's is, but if it's in Iowa I'll pass and find a steak house.

Jersey, Pa., Ny etc all have great pizza . Iowa no in my experience . Pork chops, steak, ribs, burgers are on my mind if I think Iowa. Which I prefer over pizza 24/7 lol.
Wig and Pen - excellent thin crust pizza in Iowa City, comparable to some of the better pizza joints in south bay area (CA). Also, though I haven't had it in eons, walleye is quite good in midwest.

Have you tried the Maccheroni pizza there? I didn't think I would like it, but it's one of my favorite pizzas I've ever had.

Have to agree Chief. I have an uncle in Tucson that we (whole family of 5) visited in 2021 and I have to say as a true Midwesterner that it was my favorite (and my 8/12/14 year old sons) favorite vacation so far. Not a lot to complain about in Arizona, including the food. Just my opinion though.

I can find some excellent pizza in almost every Pa. small town , let alone the big cities.
Food is completely subjective, as you know. What many people think is excellent, many others think is horrible, and vice versa. Personally, I don't care at all for Chicago-style deep dish, nor the thin, flimsy pizza --- I go for the "hand tossed" medium crust. To each his own, but no one can claim that anything is "the best" regarding food...it's just what that one person likes.

No one is saying he isn't a top recruit, they say the baggage isn't worth it. But yes PSU fans would bust balls either way. It's what opposing sports fans do.
Sorry, once again I have a contrary comment to what you're writing --- first the pizza comment, now this.

There are many sports fans who have no desire to criticise and attack fans of other teams. Being kind and respectful, and simply enjoying sports, is what many do. Sadly, many are not that way (as we Iowa fans see first-hand with PSU fans coming onto this board and being complete jerks).

You appear to have borderline hatred for Austin. Apparently you have lived a faultless life. Whatever.

My brother moved to Texas and his first visit to a steakhouse was not good. The head chef immediately knew he was from the midwest because of the dislike of the grass fed beef versus the corn fed beef here in Iowa. The chef was from the midwest too.
Makes sense, I’ll take either but prefer grass fed.

Yes there are fans who never criticize , but there are many who engage in back and forth. I lived in iowa and I liked the people and state but the fan base doesn’t walk with angels.

Sports fans have done this since forever. In Pa I’ve seen Phillies vs multiple trans, ND ( a large amount of Irish fans here) vs PSU and others, Yankees vs Red Sox. Yep we have a lot of those fans around here.

Then we have eagles fans, they’re a special breed. This stuff is nothing new.

And the pizza in Iowa was awful back then.

You are forgetting a long list when it comes to local Iowa food.
Wild Mushrooms, farmer's market fruit and vegetables, Muscatine Melons, home grown sweet corn. Dairy from NE & NW IA.
Poultry and eggs. We have the best farm to table restaurants in the land.
Go for corn fed no by-products (remnants) beef, pork and poultry.
Angelo will be exposed to the best food in the world. He’ll be at 184 in no time.
I only lived there for 3 years, and I didn’t try some of that . I used to pick mushrooms as a kid but haven’t for years. Unfortunately my wife hates them so I don’t bother learning and going out for them .

If you’re talking sweet corn my dad grows some and it’s as good as any I’ve had. He’s 82 and still grows a substantial amount. He used to sell strawberries when we were kids. I just loved picking them when it was like 100 degrees outside 🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂

I wish I spent those three years now, farm to table wasn’t a thing back in the 80s. Every single one I’ve tried locally was very good.

The man is still holding onto hatred from an incident that happened 6+ years ago, when Desanto was 18/19 years old and wrestling for Drexel.

I guess let’s just forget the fact that Austin came to Iowa City and grew into an outstanding young man and competitor, while dealing with daily challenges that most of us could never understand. Nope, better just keep focused on the one 10-second incident from 2017 lol.

My wife lived out in Arizona 20 plus years ago and loved the Mexican food. However we have had places open up here in Pa. the last 10 or so years that are quite good run by Mexican American people. I'm assuming Iowa has the same situation. But I bet Arizona and Texas would be better overall due to just volume like any other industry.

The more places you have the more likely you'll find an outstanding place is my guess.

My issue with the Mexican restaurants up here, and we have quite a few, is that they cater to what they think white people want vs staying simple and authentic. Also, most carne asada marinade is non existent so the carne asada tacos have a plain taste and you have to drench it in lime. Also, whoever opens up a breakfast taco/burrito truck would kill here with a choice of bacon/sausage/chorizo with potatoes and eggs wrapped up in a homemade flour tortilla and a couple of cups of salsa. Pretty simple but I haven't found a decent one yet. I ask for potatoes and they throw french fries in there.

Sorry, as likable as you are, that is still a flag of the 15 yard variety. The rules on this board are simple and apply to ALL. Pics are now mandatory and we all expect to see them soon! ;)

It’s also regional styles and availability of certain ingredients to an extent. AZ and CA are head and shoulders above the rest, imo.

**MSU beat me to it and he's 100% correct!***

If there was a dislike button I would click it, for the explicite reason that you preemptively cut us off before we could ask for pics.

Which is just rude. I would have never expected that sort of behavior from you, Chief.

Exactly. That goes with the buy lobster in Maine and beef or pork in Iowa thing. But yeah , as close to home grown as possible is the best option.

Taste is subjective and rankings for individuals tastes is a fools errand.

But me being a fool… Locally Zoeys in Marion for Pizza and Lupitas in CR for Mexican.

Best two Mexican meals I’ve had though were at Rick Bayless’s Frontera in Chicago and Aaron Sanchez’s place Johnny Sanchez in New Orleans.

You go to Pizza Ranch for their fried chicken, mashed potatoes and dessert pizza. Nothing more, nothing less!
Absolutely. Definitely not the pizza, but I think that post might have been a little tongue-in-cheek.

Depends on what you're used to, I think. I've had quite a few steaks in Texas and Oklahoma over the years, and none of them were as good in my mind as the ones off my grill from a quarter or half side of corn-fed beef.

My friend from San Antonio prefers the Mexican restaurants in Muscatine to any down there. Pretty soon you'll be able to get authentic Mexican, Guatemalan, Peruvian, Columbian, etc. anywhere in the US if border policies stay as they currently are. Probably a lot of Middle-Eastern food too.
