Angelo's decision......

It’s also regional styles and availability of certain ingredients to an extent. AZ and CA are head and shoulders above the rest, imo.
To an extent. But places in Des Moines get fresh seafood flown in from both coasts daily. I love local farm/field to table for sure but it's not like most decent sized cities can't get top-quality ingredients from wherever, whenever. Best risotto I've ever had was at a little place in Chicago and the waiter told us the chef had his preferred risotto rice flown in from Italy multiple times per week.

Sure. But we’re specifically talking about Mexican food.

Btw, I’m guessing that’s a typo about flying rice in multiple times per week? Unless it’s take out?

Typo? There's a specific type of risotto rice produced in Italy that this Chicago chef had flown in weekly, multiple times weekly, because it's the only kind he would use. I'm no chef or expert but have had risotto in all parts of the country and this was the best I've ever had.

That makes no sense. Dried rice doesn’t spoil like that. No need to bring in multiple times a week like fresh fish.

The man is still holding onto hatred from an incident that happened 6+ years ago, when Desanto was 18/19 years old and wrestling for Drexel.

I guess let’s just forget the fact that Austin came to Iowa City and grew into an outstanding young man and competitor, while dealing with daily challenges that most of us could never understand. Nope, better just keep focused on the one 10-second incident from 2017 lol.
I mean. I guess you could take issue with Austin threatening to kill Schriever's father and also an NCAA Media staff member both in 2021 . This could make some question if he is an "outstanding" young man

Jeesh Iowa city is becoming worse than Don Bosco with all these transfers.

Idc either way just wanted to throw some sand in the Don Bosco fan clubs eyes.

Yea...but since most of Gilbertville is descendents of John and Mary Schommer they need the transfers to keep it so they have someone to date.

What about being on the spectrum do you guys not understand? Verbal interaction in and after extremely stressful situations is not their forte. If he had aggressively attempted to act on those alleged words, you have a strong case. But, words mean little to nothing to me.

I know we are all supposed to be “woke” and words are now supposed to be punishable by law. But, empty threats from a guy that has a condition that leads to saying things without thinking, is pretty far down the list…

I wonder if either of the two PSU sniffers will make a comment about how adults/fans of a certain school treated a kid? Doubt it. They wouldn't want to allienate the 2nd largest fan base, albeit down the list even a little further in general knowledge, let alone historical.
Wrestling is better in Pennsylvania. These arguments are pitiful.

And your comment is irrelevant to mine.
General knowledge? It's hard to have less general knowledge and produce so many great kids every single year. Are PA kids more athletic?

Before I get the messages about stay off our board and stick to your own, I peruse through here for updates and news. This bickering stuff is easily scrolled through. I think it's tacky on this board by PSU people and I think it's tacky by Iowa people on the other board.

I have to leave a comment when I see this PA people don't understand wrestling. I just can't understand that negative comment. We didn't just started learning about it when it became relevant to Iowa people (The rise of PSU). We have consistently had the best production of any state by far way. This just doesn't happen.

No you get general knowledge fan boy points that help in the team title race, don't you know??

They struggle with the idea that the hottest wrestling area in the country had a decent school that probably underperformed over the years. Now they have the best coach in the best area in the country for the sport at a school that made a financial decision to improve their team.

And it changed the game completely.

So you're telling us that hiring a top coach and dumping millions of donor dollars into a non-revenue sport changed the game?

In the hottest wrestling area of the country. Penn State is the SEC as of right now. None of the success was based on some test of wrestling history among PSU's fan base.

PA is four times the population of IA. In 2022 there were 45 NCAA qualifiers who were from PA. There were 13 NCAA qualifiers who were from IA. So if you go by NCAA qualifiers, IA actually produced more as a % of the population.

I love this. I'm sending my kid to Alaska with their 2 NQ and low population for wrestling camp this summer.

Penn State is the SEC? What the He!! does that mean? Comparing Penn State to an entire conference?
Yeah, they're about as dominant in wrestling as the SEC is in football. The SEC won 10/14 contested championships. PSU won 10/13 last contested championships. 3 of the football championships were won by Clemson and FSU and 1 by OSU.

In wrestling we have Iowa with 2 and OSU with one. I think if we look at team and individual success it plays out. PSU has had app 40% of the finalists since the 2010 year, which you would need to add up the next 4 schools total finalists in that metric to get a greater number.

Now lets look individual titlists? The numbers are similar, you need requires again the next 4 scores in line to pass their number. And if you want to look at success rate in the finals They are number 2 % wise in the last ten finals, only beat by Missouri with their 75%, 6/8. However PSU won 30/42. Now I used both the last 14 years and 10 years depending on the stats I used but I think the total team titles over 14 years along with the individuals success over both time frames proves my point. PSU was 0-1 in the 2010 finals, 1-2 in 2011, and 3-2 in 2012. Iowa was 3-2, 0-1, 1-2. Both were 4/9 in individual titles. Adding those numbers with the last ten years PSU is 34/51 and Iowa is 10/24. 67% and 42%.

The Salmon River offers some of the finest sportfishing in the country. Two major fish records have been set in the Salmon River: the Great Lakes record Chinook salmon (47 lbs. 13 oz.) and the world record Coho salmon (33 lbs. 4 oz.).

This begs more detail as to why he would order direct from Italy. Most risottos are made from Arborio, Vialone Nano or Carnaroli. Most chefs probably use Carnaroli. All of them easily attainable in the US.
We want more info.

Just curious. If the population density were reversed, do you think the disparity would follow? Have to think bgg it would make a big impact.

I'm guessing in the late 1990s there were certain brands/producers in Italy whose product wasn't readily available in the U.S. As el dub pointed out, the weekly thing was probably me remembering wrong, it was 25 years ago, but they definitely said it was shipped in from Italy.

I prefer to imagine they were doing supersonic take out from Italy for special customers. ‘Cause everyone knows it’s the water….

I walk out to my garden pick some spinach and boom forearms the size of bowling balls

“Woke” would mean you are accepting of people with issues, not condemning them. You got that backwards.

Not in this context. Woke is MAKING people accept certain words due to a very small percentage’s feelings but severely condemning other, hurtful words. Sadly, with current events, nearly fully functioning people on the spectrum don’t fall into the former. This is especially true when those words are spoken by someone with “white privilege”…

If you think the general fan base of Penn State has more knowledge about the sport and its history than Iowa fans you’re delusional. And just where and the F did I comment on athleticism or for that matter which state has the best wrestling? That’s right - I didn’t. But since you brought it up, why does Cael go out of state for the majority of his lineup?

I don't think you're getting all the perspectives here. Growing up in Pa., next door to jersey gives you another way of looking at these guys.
They do exist, the Jersey Show is real, and they're generally obnoxious in that way. So when you see this crowd in action it'll get responses lol.
Luckily when I went to the shore in my high school and college years it was muted. I weirdo techno dancing, just regular rock and rock . They were more mainstream then ( Italians ) until they went guido.
I don't think you guys grasp this stuff, I could tell when I lived in the Quad Cities the pizza was awful. Also when I checked the phone book there was hardly any names that ended in an Italian vowel ( as opposed to the polish ski example)
So please understand sone of the Pa. ball busting relates to us hating Jersey and Guidos in general . So if these guys stay on the right path, good for them and Iowa. It'll be entertaining and both benefit.
But if they go off the rails? It will be must see TV lol.
The pizza in QC? What a dopey comment.

It's amusing how you see the same stuff recycled over the years.

PA also has an older population than Iowa. Try doing a more realistic comparison using the number of high school wrestlers per state. Last time I checked PA % is ahead of every other state including Iowa.

Also of note, PA has had more Division I programs than any other state for a number of decades.

Not bad for a state of people that don't understand wrestling.
