That’s some high praise for a true freshman.

With the addition of Uhlis and Perkins and JoBo coming back, there will be a lot of competition for guard minutes. I hope it drives their competitive edge, especially on the defensive end. Steel sharpens steel.
I just don't see Joe on the bench. He's probably our best defender and the best guy on the team for driving the ball and getting his shot or drawing a foul.

Have you guarded him?
You are really touchy today, Dan. This is an opinion board so please lighten up.If that’s the threshold of experience people need to post on this board, then only Kenyon would be posting here.
if you disagree with my opinion then post your own take rather than these gradeschool playground comments. I don’t care if you disagree, just have a good argument to go with it.
I think Joe T gets too much credit defensively because of his athletic ability.
He's definitely got a lot of upside - super quick, and strong too. But overall CJ Fredrick is our best perimeter defender and it isn't close right now. As Joe T gets more playing time I think he'll close that gap as CJ is probably close to his ceiling already. The subtleties of help defense, spacing, rotations, proper footwork, close outs, taking away their person's strengths due to film study, not letting guys turn the corner, stopping back cuts, handling all 4 types of pick and roll defense - a lot of stuff the casual fan would miss. CJF is pretty good at all of them. It's not all about quickness.
That being said, Joe T is a lot better than J Bo defensively so his minutes might depend on matchups - if we need J Bo to make our offense work, Joe T may get 12 minutes, but if we need Joe T because J Bos guy is tearing him up, he may get 20 minutes.
Bohannon's weakness is that good 6'2" guards who can elevate can just shoot over him from 22 feet, and if he takes a step closer guys can go around him - he has decent footspeed but a lot of guards are just stronger. Compare that to Connor who at 6'5" can stand 12-18" further away from his guy and still take away the jumper, and when they try to go around him he's strong enough to deny them the corner. Joe T doesn't have the length either but is even quicker than Bohannon and strong enough to deny the turn. Also, Joe T is better in transition defense because he is quick, strong and can elevate enough to challenge the shot. Bohannon is just an orange cone who can only foul in transition against better guards.
Even with Bohannon's defensive limitations, offensively he can create shots better than anyone we currently have. Wieskamp just isn't that good at creating off the dribble yet. Bohannon also helps with spacing because you have to guard him out to 25 feet AND be right on his hip or he'll shoot that quick release jumper in your face. Honestly, "toughest to guard" imo would be Bohannon more than Joe T if healthy. How many guys thought they had Bohannon covered only to have him score on them. Joe T is still someone limited in his offensive skill set - it's mostly quickness and strength more than skill, although his jumper is coming along....if he's wide open. How many contested shots outside of 6 feet did he make last season? Hmmm.
I'd eat my right leg if Joe T started over either of those other two, though. JBo didn't come back to come off the bench, and CJ is a better 2 way player than either of the other 2 imo.
Joe T is a very good FT shooter and a good ball handler. I want him in at the end of games unless it's a blow out either way. Hopefully there won't be a lot of games that we are on the down side of a blow out.
Impressive. "Don't sleep on" Joe this coming year!
Touissant had .5 more steals than CJF per game, despite playing 11 minutes less/game.
