...is going to be our starter at 125 next season?

IAwrestle story today talked about Laux at 133 and both Wager and Rathbun wrestled up this year.

I have to assume there will be at least 1 more wrestler challenging for that spot. Nothing against Perez at all and if he is the man great, but I would think maybe have another guy to challenge him.

I believe Justin Stickley, Jack Wagner, Brock Rathbun, and Perez-Perez were all projected at 125.

Wagner will be our 125 in my opinion. If Happel can make 33 like Tarp says he could have a good year. He needs to work on his slow feet but he is a gamer.

Whoever mans 125, I'd really like to see Tarp's suggestions for 133 and 141. I think Happel and Turk at 133 and 141 could really make some noise.

I realize expectations for next year's bunch aren't through the roof, but I think they'll surprise people -- including lot of Hawk fans. Not predicting a national title by any means, but I think they'll score more points than most of us think they will.

Would would the transfer be? I just don't see it happening at this time.

Looked up some background on Perez.

Perez wrestled for Windsor HS in northern CA, as so cal mentioned. Dan Dennis was an assistant coach there, before coming back and qualifying for Olympics, and their paths may have crossed.

Perez qualified for CA state 3 times, placing once at 6th:

soph dnp, 0-2 106 lb
jr 6th place 106 lb
sr dnp 3-2, 113 lb

I would think this would be a contested weight given the opening. Laux could probably do some damage if he could make the cut safely

I really thought Stickley performed well in opens last season for a kid who wasnt even training with the team. Im not sure which weight he is actually expected to compete at but being in the room this year should really help his skill set and conditioning.

Whoever the starter at 125 is chances are they will get tossed around like a rag doll in practice.

125: Stickley, Lee, Wagner or Perez

174: Young or Gunther
184: Cash Money
197: Maybe Warner biggest problem weight for 1 year.

I can see 2 finalists and a total of 6 to 8 AA's with lineup. Now if Lee and Warner go right away. Add them both as legit finalists. 197 is pretty thin next year and 125 has 2 or 3 that could challenge Lee.

Lee has knee surgery in March and some are saying he's a possible go this coming season? I don't see it

I think Warner's Dad has been pretty clear that a redshirt year is in the cards....same with Lee. Both can use it to bulk up...scary thing about JWAR is that he is not a full grown 197 and has a lot of room for muscle growth. If he had to go right now, it would probably be at 184.

Yes I know Lee and Warner have a 90% or better of shirting. Just throwing it out there.
Finalists in Kemdawg and Sorensen. Percentage chance of AA at remaining weights.
125: Stickley= 50/50, Laux=20/80, Wagner=20/80 and Perez=10/90
133: Happel: 60/40, Laux= 30/70,, Stickley= 20/80
141: Turk=50/50, Happel=40/60
165: The Bull=80/20
174: Young=60/40, Gunther= 30/70
184: Cash Money: 70/30
197: ????
Hwt: Stoll=95/5

This is crazy high, almost across the board.

Stickley, a HS state runner-up at 120 pounds, wrestling in his first college season, needs to focus on qualifying. 5/95.

Happel has talent but has yet to beat a top-tier guy. Can he even make 133? 20/80.

Ditto for Turk, whose record last year was 1-0. 20/80.

Sorensen and Kemerer are 85/15. Recall that Sorensen ended up in a situation this year where, due to an upset of Collica early on, either he, Jordan or Collica weren't going to place. Funky things happen. No one's a lock to AA.

The Bull? Okay. 65/35.

Young? Talented and some good wins last season, but not at 174. 35/65 until proven otherwise.

Cash beat no one in the top 10 and needed a wildcard just to be in the tourney. Granted, he had a good tourney. That gets him to 25/75.

Stoll is 50/50 until we see how his knee holds up.

But I like the optimism, I do.
