Anyone think Fran will hightail it out of IC for East?

Better question would be what decent program would want to hire a guy that's been blown out in the second round of the tournament two years in a row?

One can only hope he moves on. To where I don't care. Just go.
If he can teach defense and has some Chicago tough players on the roster it is possible that having tough minded kids who won't let us wilt is possible and that will cure A LOT of ills. Mike-Sapp- JU- and Woody are all soft and their record in close games more than backs that up. New era. Let's see what we have.

This seems like a relevant question to me due to Fran's stage of life not so much his age. I can see a mid-major program out East that needs some new life hiring him. Fran has two sons on the way to Iowa with one with just one more season left of high school ball to play. If he wants a change of scenery this seems like a good time. I don't see him getting Iowa much further than he has but I have no idea how he looks at it.

Nobody is going to pay Fran what he makes now. He will not get fired because the AD isn't going to get three chances to hire the right guy.

Only hope is he rolls Yahtzee with players because Fran isn't good enough to out coach anybody.

Plus his sons stand a better chance of playing more for a mid major without all the scrutiny.

I'd say "good riddance" if Fran were to leave. He's teams are mentally/physically soft, guards who are slow and can't shoot, don't play great defense. He's a gimmick coach, much like Dr. Tom was during the day. When the "gimmick" isn't working they are in trouble.

You need players who can bang inside and you need a PG who can beat guys to the rim so defenders don't overplay the passing lanes. You also need guards who can hit the broad side of a barn when shooting.

So what is your claim to expertise? Have you risen to the highest level in your profession? Are you a D1 coach that knows the game inside and out? Be the best ditch digger you can be.

Who would want Fran outside of mid-majors maybe? Recruiting not impressive. Maybe he could find a guard on the east coast?

How much longer will Boeheim last at Syracuse? He's 71. If they make a deep run this year he may decide to hang it up. There's also Seton Hall or Providence if their coaches get lured away to a bigger schools.

It depends how much Fran wants to get back East.

He's got two boys that I'm sure he'll want to coach, so keep that in mind. The boys will obviously follow dad wherever he goes. Is his wife a east coast gal...her preference will also play a role.

When Fran starting building the program, I was afraid that if he took us to the Elite Eight or so, we'd eventually lose him to Syracuse, Pitt or some Big East school. But, it looks like if he goes back East it will be to the A-10 or whatever small conference he had coached in before, unless he can build the program bigger with these new guys than it was with these seniors.

Fran's wife is from Minneapolis. They love IC.

The next head coach at Syracuse is Mike Hopkins.

The last great recruiter we have had was Raveling and that was a short stint a long time ago. Just long enough to produce one of the best teams in modern program history - no coincidence.

Fran got the most out of what we had. It's just you run into better teams with better players at some point in the tourney unless there is an upset on your path.

You got that right.... remember we are not Kansas.

This seems crazy. Yes these guys are soft and obviously we aren't recruiting great players. On the other hand he inherited a program that was at the bottom of a death spiral.

The McC recruits are better players on campus since the Alford class of 06. The 07 roster had a couple of decent players but almost everyone else was awful. The program was in chaos with transfers and collapses. Then came Lick.

Let's step back from the edge and see what happens the next couple seasons before we start running the guy out of town for only reaching levels of success we haven't seen in almost 20 years.

Where would he go?

Syracuse is the only major job opening up soon, but they have a replacement in Hopkins lined up.
Maybe Boston College in a couple years?
Providence has a long term fix at coach
Kevin Ollie might go NBA, but he has a big cushion at uconn with the ring
St. John's just hired chris mullin
Seton hall's coach just won big east coach of the year
Rutgers is not a major program, they are horrible beyond words
JT3 is not getting fired from Georgetown
Jay Wright is a lifer at Villanova
Tiurgeon on is pretty secure at Maryland

Maybe the Temple job of Dunphy gets fired? But temple has no money and only pay their coach $600k?

He is not going to leave Iowa for an Atlantic ten or colonial or patriot league job.

Pathetic, short-sighted rants.... A new coach doesn't fix things. There are many examples of new coaches never achieving the heights of the previous coach. I mean Fran already ha more tourney wins than Lickliter and Alford combined. You guys are glass half-empty crowd and I'd hope no one takes you too seriously.

I watched his Saturday press conference, I liked what I saw. I think he knows what iowa's recruiting strengths are and he likes his ability to get it done.

Also, the big ten is a league where you just have to finish in the top half and you dance. With teams like northwestern penn state, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rutgers, he is already starting in a good position to finish top half.

This is a good fit for him and the school.
