B1G Session 4 (Finals) PBP / Comments

While I think a few harp on it a bit much Evans is one guy who has really lost his offense over time. Far more aggressive and explosive a few years ago, this season seems to be a lot of 2-1 and 2-0, escape and ride hard. I understand the weight class has some horses but he just does not look to dominate weaker opponents. I hope his approach at nationals changes.

C'mon Bobby T!!!

IT is tied @ 120
Only Telford is left.
Ironside said it would simply be a tie. Co-B1G champs.

Burak was soooooo close about 3 times to finishing one if those shots.

Bring it home Bobby!!!!

Will settle for a shared championship, but would MUCH prefer to win it outright.

No pressure, Bobby. No pressure.

Just do it!

Burak loses 2-3
That's literally the only thing Schiller does, and Burak just never finishes the tds to stop it. Nathan is better than even the top guys at pretty much everything but finishing. Extremely frustrating

No tie breaker in tournaments everyone!, We are co champs with a shot to win it. Burak was so damn close, had the leg a couple times and could not finish. All that wrestling and to think where 1 extra point could have come from, endless posibilities.

The difference between the good wrestlers and us is they can get a take down. We can't set anything up and finish for anything. The days of being "heavy on the head" and "outworking our opponents" are gone. Until Iowa starts to get slick and work on multiple ties and multiple take downs, this is where we will sit.

BBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

we need you.

I believe that is correct. On the other side of the ledger, I don't think Evans gave up a TD either. So if you like low-scoring matches without TDs or much other action, Evans is your guy.

After Gillman lost I didn't think I would be at all happy by the end of today. I can say I am, but if Telford wins I would be slightly happier.

If you like no offense, then that is great. The competition will only get tougher at NCAA's. The style refs allow doesn't help us.

I like offense but at the end of the day we're still in first place

Right -- Big Ten team championships really suck, don't they?

Seriously, we all wan to see the Hawks dominate every time out. The fact is that offense is down across the board. I want to see Iowa score bonus points against everyone. Expectations for Iowa will always be high. That said, I don't think the picture is remotely as bleak as you seem to imply.

My guess is Telford's opponent will be allowed to stall the whole match because the refs won't want the home team to miss out on the team title.......

Yep. Iowa doesn't have any good wrestlers.

Absolutely pathetic refs.
McMullan was every bit as aggressive until the last minute. He deserved it. Telford wrestled hard but came up short.

They were scared to give anyone a stall point the entire session.

McMullan's quicks got Bobby again. Great slide-by. Just can't believe he gave that up. Props to McMullan. He has a way of getting Bobby off kilter and out of position. Just too darn quick. Love the way he wrestles.

I don't put any of this on the refs. We just didn't get it done in the finals. Frankly, we don't deserve a Big Ten championship all to ourselves going 0-4 in the finals. I'd say we were very fortunate to come away co-champs after laying an egg like that in the finals. Props to the guys who came back tough in the consolations.

I saw more guys back away for wins this weekend than I've seen the whole season combined. Guess all the officials can go ask for their balls back now that the tournament is over.

co-1st. I could care less about co-champs. We have one tie and one take down and if opponents scout us and take it away we have nothing. Wrestling will lose what it is all about and fan bases will quit building. It's obvious the direction refs are taking wrestling...boring with no stall calls. Maybe the NCAA has to make new rules like no riding time points or something..I don't know. It has gotten worse and worse in the past 10 years. Count the number of take downs. I will be curious.
