Badgers lock up Fickell thru 2032

I googled him just to refresh myself on his actual record so far at Wisconsin, and FYI I saw its only a 1 year extension. He was already in through 2031.

I like Fickell a lot.

But let me know when Wisconsin reaches their previous level
They never will - or any of the other schools that played in the "sh!t" B1G West. Now all of those schools have to battle schools like OSU, PSU, Michigan, Oregon etc... for championships and Playoff spots. And then there's also teams like Washington, USC....... I'll be shocked if any of those old B1G West teams make the Playoffs - even being expanded - in the next 5 to 10 years

Agreed. Just wait until they have 4-5 wins again next year. That program has no identity anymore
Good. Hated seeing the smugness of Wisconsin athletes over the years.

"We don't do anything flashy. We just do it better than you. And our way is the right way"

To an extent, I think every program/fanbase feels that they do things the right way, and certainly compared to some others, including their peers. But that mentality is illustrated with Wisconsin athletes is one they borrowed from Ohio State, who along with their fanbase is BY FAR the worst offender/abuser of the "our way to success is the right way, and we pity those who can't figure out what we've already known for decades".

If you ever listen to Ohio State fans, or coaches, or former players talk in public or on a podcast, wherever the case, they always tend to try to sound like the smartest people in the room, often times condescendingly.

Usually when they do this ... it's dually motivated by having the buy-out lowered but having it extended for the sake of recruiting.

Since the recruiting time-line continues to get pushed up ... a guy wants to know that a coach will be there with him for the full 5-years. However, these coaches are often offering kids who are sometimes just FR and SOs in high-school. Hence, thereby explaining the 7-year window. It used to be that a kid's JR year in high school was the lynch-pin to their recruitment. However, now having a good SO season and getting exposure through the camp-circuit is what often breeds early attention.

Of course, the whole NIL business is significantly messing with the time-line too.

Wisconsin's old way was the right way.

Would kill for that many rush attempts at Iowa

It would appear that the Wisconsins AD (or board of Regents or who ever runs the show now that Father Barry is apparently in decline) has been taking classes at the Gary Barta Institute of Profligacy & Stupidity.
I’ll reserve judgement until I see the buyout. I have no issue with long contracts and paying coaches well (even KF and FM), but how our coaches were able to negotiate essentially 100% guaranteed $ contracts is befuddling. I seriously doubt that Fickell’s 2031 salary is 100% guaranteed even if he is long gone, which is the situation Iowa is dealing with now with their big $ coaches.

Iowa, Wisky and MSU have lots of data points that suggest they shouldn’t throw in the towel
