Biden on Israel and Hamas

I hear the Biden admin is holding off sending the required certification to Congress affirming that Israel is in compliance with international law (or whatever it is we're supposed to certify before we can ship weapons).

Does anyone here believe Israel IS in compliance?

Does anyone here think Biden will find that they are NOT in compliance?

My guess is that Biden is holding off on the compliance certification in order to twist Netanyahu's arm.

Netanyahu will figure out what the very least he can give Biden to get the certification through, and it won't actually be based on being in compliance.

Nobody here wants to see Hamas left in power.

Why do you say things like that?
WWJD: “I want you to put your hand in that fire.”

Me: “If you do that, you’re going to get burned.”

WWJD: “Nobody wants to see anyone get burned! Why would you say things like that?”

Explain how a ceasefire removes Hamas from governing Gaza.

No I did not expect you to answer, which is why I said it was doubtful. No need to answer. You already stated that I know exactly where you stand on the MIC. You're against fluffing the MIC on Israel's behalf.

If Israel pays for the weaponry, is it "fluffing" the MIC?

Does anyone here think that if Palestine held an election today or even a month before October 7th that Hamas wouldn't win?

This isn't exactly scientific, but it does make sense to me. Perhaps you'll find it interesting.

If it's too long, the short: Hamas has lost popularity in Gaza, Hamas has more than tripled support in the West Bank

If they hold back congressionally approved aid for policy reasons I'm not seeing much of a difference.

Got it, I didn't realize you were just posting it as a hypothetical. Sort of like if Biden had sex with a porn star, then paid her off to keep quiet, then falsified records to keep it secret, there wouldn't be much of a difference to what Trump did. Sure, he hasn't done that yet, but if he does, then it will be similar.

I support it. Israel has killed more than 30,000 civilians, targeting schools, hospitals, clean water sources, etc.

Both Reagan and Bush did the same thing in terms of pulling back on weapons support.

Israel is a great mideast ally. And we've always supported them when no one else has. And I'm fine with that. But this move will likely keep Iran and others out of the conflict, and serve to deescalate the potential for a greater war.
I agree with everything you said, except the notion this will keep Iran out of the conflict. Iran has vowed to wipe the Jews out of Israel no matter what. I'm not sure how withholding weapons from Israel changes Iran's stated goal. I'd welcome your expanded thoughts on that. IMO, and it's just an opinion, Iran doesn't need an excuse to wage war on Israel. Iran has been super pissed ever since Israel successfully cyberattacked the nuclear facility.

Look at this shit. At the same time he puts a hold on arms to Israel, he lifts the boycott on arms to Qatar which is a huge alli of Hamas.

Seriously, what the fuk is he doing

Do you think Hamas can be defeated?
I think Hamas can be removed from control of Gaza, the same way that Nazis were removed from control of Germany.

We've been told over and over there is a clear distinction between the Palestinian people and Hamas. You don't equate Nazis and Germans, right?

No. I just wonder. I guess my thought is the name on the business card is irrelevant. Hamas one day, something else the next. Can you really defeat a religious ideology?

Israel’s problem is location and proximity. Nobody’s going anywhere. It’s like two neighbors who are at odds but neither can move away.

Are you saying that Palestinians will just vote for Hamas by another name if Hamas is removed from power?
Nazism as an ideology is still out there, but it isn't running any countries.

Certainly possible. Either willingly, or under duress, or because IDF leveled their home and killed friends and family.

Yeah, I don’t think Biden could physically have sex with anyone. 😉

President Biden has become increasingly critical of Israel — and some of his campaign's biggest pro-Israel donors are becoming more critical of him.
Why it matters: Whether he is aiding or criticizing Israel, every move Biden makes has potential negative political consequences.

Driving the news: Democratic megadonor and Israeli American Haim Saban emailed senior White House officials Wednesday asking them to pass along his criticism of Biden's recent move to pause bomb shipments to Israel over a possible ground operation in Rafah.

  • "Bad, Bad, Bad, decision, on all levels, Pls reconsider," he wrote in a message obtained by Axios and other news outlets.
  • He added: "Let's not forget that there are more Jewish voters, who care about Israel, than Muslim voters that care about Hamas."
  • The Biden campaign declined to comment.
In February, Saban hosted a fundraiser for Biden's re-election bid at his Los Angeles home.

  • He said at the time that he had a private conversation with the president and that "Biden cares deeply about Israel, it's in his kishkes."
Between the lines: The public feud highlights the divisions within the Democratic Party that have erupted since Hamas' attack on Israeli civilians on October 7.

  • Biden's initial embrace of Israel and its government prompted some of his supporters to protest him around the country.
  • At the same time, many pro-Israel donors rallied around Biden's re-election and helped him build his current financial advantage over former President Trump.
Zoom in: Biden has become more critical of Israel Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's conduct of the war and this week said the U.S. wouldn't supply offensive weapons if Israel invades Rafah.

  • In response, some donors and influential pro-Israel voices have grown more critical, though not as publicly as Saban.
  • Mark Mellman, the president and CEO of the influential group Democratic Majority for Israel, told Axios that "there has never been a president more pro-Israel than Joe Biden but at the same time we are very concerned about what appears to be a significant shift in US policy."
  • He added: "There are a lot of people in the pro-Israel community who are very worried, very upset and very angry."
  • "We don't know what the consequences are going to be politically."

You seem to be asking for the elimination of evil, and that would be impossible,.. But short of that, the entity known as Hamas can be eradicated to a point where they will no longer have political control of a nation state, and future terrorists will become reluctant to carry the name of Hamas because it comes with an automatic death sentence...

Again, the name doesn’t matter.
I think Israel will always have to sleep with one eye open.

It is. However, Palestinian people are born and then brainwashed into hating Jews.
Pretty much the reason why no country in the region wants Palestinian refugees. They're been radicalized and are seen as a destabilizing factor in the region.

So, Biden basically has pissed off Jewish Americans AND Muslim Americans.

Don't forget, Muslim Americans are determined that Biden doesn't get another 4 years, even if it means Trump wins. The common response from them is that they'd rather deal with a Muslim ban from Trump than deal with Biden's full support of bombs killing 10's of thousands in Gaza.

And Biden is way too late with holding back arms, trying to appease Muslim Americans and all of the protesters around the country; Gaza is already completely leveled. Over 35,000 are already dead.

Trump has a very slim chance of winning but the economy, the border, Gaza, etc. gives him a chance of pulling it off.

Hamas hiding behind civilians and their attack on Oct 7 created this mess.

I support Israel in their war against Hamas.

Hamas can't be allowed to stay in power, which is what they DEMAND, of course.

This could all end with Hamas surrendering. The world should be demanding that instead of trying to broker a deal that leaves Hamas in power.

On Oct 7, Hamas murdered, raped, and took hostages. I can fully understand why Israel not only declared war but won't stop until Hamas is decimated and no longer in power.

Brainwashed?? Because it's easier to say brainwashed or radicalised rather than come to terms with the fact that you have millions living in the equivalent of a giant concentration camp. A camp with some really crap neighbors who lob missiles at you, your family, your schools, your hospitals. All funded by U.S. taxpayers. A child can't recognise any nuance to the situation when their mother or sister was killed for no obvious reason. How shocking...they are treated like animals from birth to grave and some of them become 'brainwashed'. Brainwashed by who exactly? Hamas or the zionists?
