Big Changes For World Team Trials

We just beat Russia at the World Cup and now we are changing the system that helped produce that result? So far I don’t like it.

You're mixing two things up - there is an advantage in reaching the finals. But virtually no competitive advantage once the whistle blows for the finals. In fact, wrestler passed to final could (likely would be) be rusty.

You say virtually no competitive advantage as the #1 seed could be rusty. You don't think he has team partners whom he can wrestle the day or two days before. I don't truthfully know but I really doubt he is just sitting around two or three days, just waiting to wrestle when his time comes?

How is it almost no advantage? He does not have to compete with Nato, Ramos, SL, Fix, Mega. He gets the winner. Yes the finals will be more level but he is guaranteed that spot, no one else is! This can't be that difficult to wrap ones mind around.

With days or weeks, to rest and prepare I would say the advantage is basically null. The advantage lies in the fact that the champ doesn't have to go through the challenge bracket and then wrestle a 2 out of 3 series, that same day. Not doing that now takes the advantage away from the champ.

Well the champ still has a slight advantage.

He is supposedly the better wrestler and should win without other benefits!!!!!

Those that make it through the grind of the challenge tournament can have a game plan in place for their opponent and his or her tendencies. The champ watches matches and preps for whom?
Stylistic match ups matter. Take Gilmans weight class as an example. Each of his opponents will have prepped for him somewhere along the way. Thomas has a plan ready for who? Nato, Lee, Suriano, Fix and company all are very different and very capable. Your advantage is being rested, a finals spot, and not having to face them all. Once the finals begin your disadvantage is rust and your opponent can in theory have a better plan for your , the known opponent, than you have for the variable.
