What do you think the odds are of Brian being around in 2026. I can't imagine him passing up the opportunity to head coach. Will he go to a G5 or weaker P5 and return to the Hawks?

Unless KF is trying to get to 200 wins, I don't see him coaching all the way to 2026.

Greg Davis is 65, so I expect the OC job to be opening up in the next couple years. I wonder who lands that?

Then the question is whether or not Iowa will hire a coach with no HC experience. If Barta is still around, I expect little resistance to the idea.

Brian Ferentz, HC in 2022? 2023?

I was thinking about this when the extension was announced. Where does Parker fit in all of this? Does he want a chance to be the guy here or elsewhere or is he happy to stick with defense? Does anyone know if he's ever talked about the possibility of being a HC publicly?

I'm not necessarily opposed to Brian eventually being head coach but a little surprised so many people are just ready to hand him the position (even after being groomed). While I expect that KF will and should provide input in regards to the hire, it should be an opened up process which considers coaches that are not currently on staff. How often have plans to just pass the job on to the coach's son really worked for other schools?

Given our place in the B1G (i.e. $$$), facilities, fan support, and coach support, I tend to think that Iowa would be a highly desirable job for most coaches.

The stability, especially. Two head coaches since 1979? Job security in college coaching? I agree, Iowa has an attractive head coaching position--and one that is available only once every 20 years! :)

There was a HawkCentral article about Parker not long ago. Didn't seem like he really had any urge to be a HC. Could be wrong but that's how I read it.

Parker is happy at D Coordinator as far as I can tell. BF will make a hell of a head coach, somewhere....Iowa maybe, but I think he needs to continue to prove he is capable of being a head coach. I do think he will step into being the next OC at Iowa, which I think he does well at. If and only if he does exceptionally well running our offense, I think he would be a logical choice to be a strong candidate. I think he could also be a life to keep the stability at Iowa. Notice I said Candidate and not a done deal, however; we do want to make sure the next guy is a good fit at the U of I and not many know the program as well as he does.

If Brian brings in his own version of Norm Parker, fine by me. Otherwise, the University of Iowa writes large checks, go ahead and look at ALL the candidates that will be knocking down the door with both feet to get a shot at Kirk's job.

An inside source says a big booster wants BF to be the next HC...heck, I think that I do too...I like what I've seen and how he handles things. Plus, he can always go to Pops for advice. There's also the book "Good To Great" that I believe KF is a proponent of..they basically studied top companies and learned that one of the differentiators between a good organization and a great one is that the great ones promoted from within. This screams BF taking over.

brian ferentz seems to be a very smart, confident and determined coach and he is definitely head coach material. having him on the staff gives me greater confidence in the continued success of this program, especially assuming that he has his dad's ear. in the best case scenario, iowa continues to win and brian eventually takes over as head coach

I'd give him a 15-20% chance of being our next head coach. A lot of things have to go right for it to happen.

I'd generally be against hiring the next Joey Meyer, but Brian seems to be behind a lot of the New Kirk stuff, and seems like a hell of a coach.

I could see BF becoming the offensive coordinator in the near future and then taking over once Kirk retires. I'm not crazy about a guy with no head coaching experience taking over a P5 team, but for some reason I really want BF to be our next head coach.

Brian is the biggest reason why KF is still around. He was the only one who could get through to him.

To echo what someone else said about Parker. He was the DB coach at Toledo for 10 years. I think that shows he is content where he is and doesn't have a strong ambition to be a head guy.

He seems like a Norm Parker/Bill Brashier type. A guy who just wants to coach football and not deal with talking to the media and the other bullshit that comes with being the head coach. I heard Brashier on a podcast recently, and he said he was in a position to make decisions that impacted the outcome of the game, and that was his primary motivator.

Good to Great has a chapter on Walgreen's that specifically attributes improved performance to a CEO ending nepotism at the company. Also, I would say it stresses getting people into the right roles in the organization vs. simply promoting from within. That said, Kirk is a big fan of the book and it shows.
