Bruce in portal..

I'm perfectly fine with this. I wish him well....but he was absent nearly all year. I hope this signals that we have a couple of good WRs coming in.
Exactly...watched punts go by, dropped balls, the few he saw..haha but still. Not terribly difficult to replace.

Bruce caught 1.5 balls a game. KJ had 2 catches all year. It’s not like losing Jerry Rice.
Yes to the first, disagree on the second. KJ was the most talented WR on the roster. He had 2 catches because he was hurt most of the year. (says Captain Obvious)

Hate to hear this and to me it represents the downward spiral for college sports.
Here is a student-athlete who was a starter all year; who was on the field all the time when healthy.
Not enough.
So now players are leaving after two years not because of lack of playing time but due to the number of targets?
We went to the Big Ten Championship last year. We are bowling this year. Team success apparently does not matter.
Bruce seems like a good guy so this is not so much a critisicm of him as the current chaos that exists in college sports.

We have literally lost our four best receivers in the past two years. And we have people on here like, “Yep I love our young guys.” 🤦‍♂️
Only way this works out if three of the top four receivers next year are not currently on the roster.
Charlie, yes, but Keagan rarely played, and Bruce was as unreliable as Tracy this past year. I wish them well but I don't expect they'll have the luck that Charlie did.

Yeah. it was his fault for being " absent " instead of the reality that he was obviously misused, under-utilized, mismanaged and coached by a completely clueless jackass of an OC. All his fault?? How are some FB fans this backwards?
Players make plays...yall blaming the play call are so ignorant. It's not the Xs & Os, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's.

Please tell me what we didn't run? 5 wide, single back, 2 backs, double tight, I...yall r clueless.

Just like the rest he had opportunity to make key plays and didnt. So yes its on he and other players who PLAY THE GAME.

I don’t think some posters realize just how bad the WR room is. We need immediate help.
agreed - we are paper thin, I like what I see in Vines and BB but after that there is nothing but walk-ons as far as the eye can see...everyone loves a good walk-on success story, but at some point you need to bring in some game changers (like we do at TE)....

Lol, I didn't even think of that........and now that I have........why in the actual f*** aren't these guys waiting until after the bowl game?

If they wait, they lose out on potential landing spots. Iowa would not have waited until January to get a QB commit. They needed McNamara now to influence other transfers and possibly retain HS recruits. The portal is open now and players are committing. Things will move fast the next couple of weeks. By the early signing day, the roster will be close to complete. My guess is some additional current Hawks will be moving on and the coaches will help them see the benefit in that.

It's a self-created problem. If you don't use someone's skill set, they don't stay in your organization long. It's also hard to recruit that skill set with a track record of same.

What does Iowa's staff have to sell a talented wide receiver when he makes his visit to learn about the program. "Coach, how would I fit into your program? Show me how you use your wide receivers."

I'm assuming everyone understands that if the Iowa coaches really want him back they can recruit him all over again? If I were Bruce I'd probably do the same thing. Show me the changes.

I think most of the problem this year was with the offensive line,.. Improve that and everything else has a chance to actually show you what it can do,.. An offense without an effective line is like a car without tires. Could be a decent car or it could be a piece of shit, no way to know for sure until it you first make it driveable...
OL #1, QB#2, WR#3 need to get separation as well.

What did our top 4 wrs do? Besides Jones after he left, nothing hard to replace.

Charlie was a much greater loss. He was a better receiver and infinitely better in the return game. This one is a nothing burger.

Nothing burger? Iowa finally gets a QB that is going to target WRs in the passing game. They now have BB and Vines as their only primary targets at the WR spot. I understand he is not the deep threat that Charlie Jones was, but Bruce could make for one hell of a possession receiver.

You're not wrong, but this is an issue across CFB. There needs to be a restricted period, if there isn't one already, and it needs to run through the CFB postseason.

It's one extra month, including a game and practices, to change your mind about transferring. If kids still want to opt out of the bowl game, that's their choice and only speaks to the further degradation and lack of importance of CFB bowl games, particularly to the players themselves.

But schools should at least be granted that time to "make their pitch" as well. And no I don't care if that seems unfair to the schools that don't make a bowl game, or the players of programs who don't make a bowl game.

They all can wait until January for the official end of the CFB season. I'm tired of people treating impatience like it's some kind of disease and the only way to treat it is to embrace it rather than fight it..................

I

watched one KSU game this year. They had a little guy they used in a variety of ways. He was quicker than shit and just ran by defenders. But he appeared to be very thick for a guy of his stature. Looked like a Bob Sanders type. Maybe this is what they do to him. To me ,he was a major disapointment.
Agree, fumbling on the 10 against NE that sealed the Win was enough for me. Know he was frustrated this year but he was also part of the problem.

The offense sucks, where do you look first? The offensive coordinator. You think its the players? Who is responsible for recruiting and developing those players? If you dont think the OC is the main problem here, you have your head in the sand.

It's a team sport. You succeed or fail based on the performance of the team. This offense was so messed up that I don't believe the problem can be remedied by replacing a singular component, like the OC,... Personally, I think the main problem this season was the offensive line. Improve that even marginally, and all the bitching around here would be non-existent.

Unfortunately, McNamara coming will provide the excuse for KF to change NOTHING with his staff, except maybe getting rid of Barnett. BF will stay as OC, because "McNamara is coming, and that's only because of Brian!"

Unless...maybe he's coming because he knows Brian ISN'T going to be OC next season. Hmm, discuss amongst yourselves

Wipe the slate clean. Fresh starts for everyone after a dismal 2 years of offense. I’m more looking forward to staff changes at this point. Nobody on offense outside of Kaleb would really disappoint me by transferring at this point.
Can't lose Lachey

Bahaha, its amazing that we apparently are one of the few teams in the country where performance doesnt fall on the coach.

No. And buy a few apostrophes.
Got me on the apostrophes... what a desperate tool.

I wouldn't call it a nothing burger, but losing Johnson is a much bigger deal, talent-wise.

Brecht improved throughout the season and Vines showed promise when he finally got to see the field.

According to Bishop, who hasn't been wrong yet, the Hillsdale WR sounds like a done deal and they're likely to add two more.

Depending what those portal additions are, Iowa *might* just come out ahead.

Hearing Budmayr is getting a promotion per other poster in several of these threads.

Two works: Chuck Sizzle.

Jesus Christ - He was “absent” because of the QB and the OL!

With our yearly weakness at the position, I don’t know how anyone could be “perfectly fine with this”

Take your damn Hawkeye blinders off.
