Bruce in portal..

Wipe the slate clean. Fresh starts for everyone after a dismal 2 years of offense. I’m more looking forward to staff changes at this point. Nobody on offense outside of Kaleb would really disappoint me by transferring at this point.
Umm Lachey leaving would be a big loss!

I wouldn't call it a nothing burger, but losing Johnson is a much bigger deal, talent-wise.

Brecht improved throughout the season and Vines showed promise when he finally got to see the field.

According to Bishop, who hasn't been wrong yet, the Hillsdale WR sounds like a done deal and they're likely to add two more.

Depending what those portal additions are, Iowa *might* just come out ahead.
Johnson was not on the field this year, any loss at the WR position right now is a huge loss. There are no guarantees to anything coming in, and depending on walk-ons and true freshman is not a good situation.

Nothing burger? Iowa finally gets a QB that is going to target WRs in the passing game. They now have BB and Vines as their only primary targets at the WR spot. I understand he is not the deep threat that Charlie Jones was, but Bruce could make for one hell of a possession receiver.

To quote Christopher Walken in Click "it's just cornflakes."
If they don't clean house on the offensive coaches, an influx of NFL players isn't going to improve the offense. It would be crap with or without Bruce and he looked like crap this season.

The other thing is you wonder what else is going on beyond just the inept offense and poor utilization and execution of our passing game that would make these guys (let's be realistic, Johnson and Bruce were our two best WRs) choose to rather transfer with plenty of eligibility left rather than stick it out in the hopes that Iowa will choose not to stay at the bottom of CFB offensively, especially with McNamara transferring in, and our next recruiting class coming in and the fact that Petras won't be back.
I'm starting to wonder if Copeland is leaving.

The offense sucks, where do you look first? The offensive coordinator.

You think its the players? Who is responsible for recruiting and developing those players?

If you dont think the OC is the main problem here, you have your head in the sand.
You guys act like coaches can just magically “develop” players into superior athletes. Recruiting is an inexact science. There will be misses. Development is an inexact science. Some guys won’t develop as coaches hoped. A lot of these things converged this year. The portal is helping make fixes. Things are looking up.

I wish the kid well. My assessment of him is he is a tweener WR/RB and does not really fit a position in college, much like T Tracy. I do not see him being any more than a role player.

I don't want Lachey to leave. He should have been catching passes alongside LaPorta all year just like Hockensen and Fant. They need to utilize the weapons they actually have.

This last year was maybe the worst offense I have every seen at a D1 level. Its not like it was Brians first year.

Any other program and Brian would have been fired already.

Good. Maybe now they'll go to 3 tackles and 3 tight ends and get back to being at all concerned with running the damn ball

The sky isn’t completely falling. We have a proven QB with two years remaining and a wide open path to playing time. Cade has already been pitching a couple of talented wideouts to join him. A number of people who will enter the portal haven’t yet announced, and while you never like to see kids leave it’s not like we’re losing irreplaceable production.

If Cooper, Campbell, Johnson etc. had eligibility and were choosing to leave then we’d have major concerns. We’re losing potential not production. If we get Proctor and some other linemen get healthy the offense has the potential to be much better next year when all is said and done .

Bahaha, its amazing that we apparently are one of the few teams in the country where performance doesnt fall on the coach.

Got me on the apostrophes... what a desperate tool.
Isn’t it crazy some posters are still sticking up for BF after his performance as OC the past 6 years? He has literally made this offense worse each year to where we can’t get any worse because we are the worst lol.

On top of that he became the QB coach and made our QBs the worst. Spencer was horrible, Padilla just as bad, and now they don’t even trust Labas.

Career long reception of 28 yards. I understand we need all the receivers we can get, but not irreplaceable.
Aside: as a Christian I always cringe when I see 'God's Plan' references. Always possible a revelation was bestowed on Arland, but usually a self-fulfilling statement.
No, a revelation was not bestowed on Arland by some sky wizard.

These guys just think it’s the cool thing to say.

a jet sweep with the TE, guaranteed 2 yard gain...just what every offense is looking for.
FWIW, there are no rushing stats for ANY Iowa TE, so the TE sweep must be a figment of your imagination. Perhaps you are thinking about a screen pass?

Unfortunately, McNamara coming will provide the excuse for KF to change NOTHING with his staff, except maybe getting rid of Barnett. BF will stay as OC, because "McNamara is coming, and that's only because of Brian!"

Unless...maybe he's coming because he knows Brian ISN'T going to be OC next season. Hmm, discuss amongst yourselves

McNamara would not be coming if changes are not being made. They go hand in hand.

It looked like both our QBs actually got worse after an offseason with Brian. Incredible.

You're not wrong, but this is an issue across CFB. There needs to be a restricted period, if there isn't one already, and it needs to run through the CFB postseason.

It's one extra month, including a game and practices, to change your mind about transferring. If kids still want to opt out of the bowl game, that's their choice and only speaks to the further degradation and lack of importance of CFB bowl games, particularly to the players themselves.

But schools should at least be granted that time to "make their pitch" as well. And no I don't care if that seems unfair to the schools that don't make a bowl game, or the players of programs who don't make a bowl game.

They all can wait until January for the official end of the CFB season. I'm tired of people treating impatience like it's some kind of disease and the only way to treat it is to embrace it rather than fight it..................

I am not disagreeing with you, but the colleges want the transfer period before national signing day. I have a feeling there will be some high school players having their offers pulled after next week. Probably not for Iowa, but for those teams that bring in 15-20 transfers. There is still a limit to the number of new players you can bring on in one year.

I wouldn't say fall guy.

I think he's frustrated. Someone else said the staff didn't appreciate his comments on WR recruiting. I feel tension there.

If Brian remains lone OC, I think Copeland is gone, perhaps mutually.
Well the WRs have not been good under his coaching. But I guess most will just keep blaming Brian for everything.

It’s great we got Cade. It would be cool if we picked up other players too. But it will be for naught if Brian returns. He is so incredibly bad at his job.

Lol, I didn't even think of that........and now that I have........why in the actual f*** aren't these guys waiting until after the bowl game?

Because they need to find a new home before the next semester starts. These guys have nothing to gain in the bowl game except to get hurt. If they're planning to leave we want them to leave now so we can play the guys who will be here next year. If we were playing for a NC then it would be different.

Am I the only one on here like extremely upset that iowa allowed all this to happen?
How is it Iowa's Falt? Cade left Michigan for Iowa. I'm sure players left Ohio St also. The portal gives players options they never had before. Creates no loyalty to a team anymore.
I don't like it along with many others here but it's here to stay along with NIL.
We as fans can only wait to see what happens.

They won't be depending on walk-ons and true freshman unless they strikeout in the portal.

Your freakout seems premature.
Like it was last year with Alex Wick starting? Once again, the statement made was that this is a nothing burger, and with Iowa's current depth they will need to make something happen.
