Bingo, Fran! This isn’t good for Swarm (or whatever it’s called). What fan wants to contribute their hard-earned money to scholarship athletes only to see them stink up the field? Cade and the Proctor fiasco will do long-term damage to Iowa’s NIL program.and we are paying him hundreds of thousands in NIL
only at Iowa, man....
Very concerned about Cade’s passing game. We got a hint last week when he threw into traffic. We lucked out with a TD but still not good. But KF will stay with him come hell or high water. KF could have given Sully more playing time last week, but typical Kirk, he didn’t.Cade is terrible. Not the answer.
It will be one of many. No haunts. Not winning many.this game is gonna haunt us for a while
can't lose THIS GAME at home
Petra's got pulled once but it was because he was so injured that he couldn't throw the ball 20 yards. I still don't understand how he was thrown out there that day.Just how bad does a QB have to be before Kirk pulls him? I'm trying to think of the last time our coached benched a QB during a game for poor performance.
Was it Vandenberg that was the worst QB in the Big Ten but still somehow managed to take every single snap his senior year? And that’s not hyperbole. Iowa was the only school in the country to not have a backup quarterback in for at least one play.Petra's got pulled once but it was because he was so injured that he couldn't throw the ball 20 yards. I still don't understand how he was thrown out there that day.
You sucked Cade. Deer in the headlights?
Lester has no balls. Actually Beth is tougher then him.If Sullivan is actually better, Lester needs to step in
I think we can recruit legitimate QBs but once they get here, we haven’t known what to do with them. We’ve been calling for the back up QB’s since CJ left. I don’t always subscribe to there’s a better option on the bench because I’ve experienced that not to be true at the college level.
The question fans should be asking is why can’t we recruit a legitimate QB? And why through multiple coordinators does the offense have the same problems? And why won’t we adapt, a little bit, so maybe a decent QB would want to play at Iowa?
Caitlin would not have come to Iowa if Kirk was her coach. Kirk needs to be more like Lisa. Mistakes are made. But they’re outweighed by the great plays. You have to be willing to live with both, but believe the great plays overwhelm the poor ones. I’m not equating any QB on Iowa’s team with Caitlin, but the attitude needs to be the same. It’s no longer a coincidence Iowa’s QBs have sucked for years now. I believe Kirk sucks the joy and confidence out of his QBs by making their games about not making a mistakes.
If you were on offense and your coach goes into clam shell mode after scoring just 16 points with an entire second half to play, you probably would think the coach doesn’t have any confidence in you.
Iowa QBs have as much job security as Supreme Court Justices and the Pope.Just how bad does a QB have to be before Kirk pulls him? I'm trying to think of the last time our coached benched a QB during a game for poor performance.
We won't.After watching Raiola last night, I’m starting to doubt we will beat Nebraska.
Every game for Iowa will be played in isolation like the last two years. With as inconsistent as we are, there really is no transitive property of equality. And as my brother reminded me as I stepped toward the ledge last night, readying myself for the leap, Colorado might be the worst defensive football team in the power 5 this season. That said, this is the first year in about ten that I don't expect to beat Nebraska. It looks like a 7-5 type season at this point. After watching Raiola last night, I’m starting to doubt we will beat Nebraska.
Unless there is significant improvement in QB play, I am legitimately having a hard time finding 6 wins on the schedule.Every game for Iowa will be played in isolation like the last two years. That’s a fair point. At the same time, you can’t recruit an immobile QB and not give him time to throw. Both of our starting tackles couldn’t slow down a pass rush in 2020I think we can recruit legitimate QBs but once they get here, we haven’t known what to do with them.
By all accounts, Petras was a legitimate Big Ten player when he got to campus. But our coaches were unable to make it happen. He was thrown into a system that treats offense as a necessary evil and thinks that punts are better than points.
I just wish Kirk would let Lester do his thing and not play so damn conservatively with any sort of lead. I like what I've seen from Lester's play calling so far. Execution hasn't always been the best and it still looks like some players don't fully understand the playbook yet but his play calling is not predictable when he wasn't hamstrung by Kirk.At least Lester has rebuilt the QB room and we have a competent QB2 (who might soon be QB1)
Brendan Sullivan >>> Deacon Hill
And this ^^^ goes hand in hand with Kirk sucking the joy the game. Let the kids play. Making mistakes is part of their growth. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing but mediocrity.Caitlin would not have come to Iowa if Kirk was her coach. Kirk needs to be more like Lisa. Mistakes are made. I know this is a fantasy because Kirk will never, ever do that.
Playcalling was crap on those first half goal to go series. And they should have kept hammering on the edges with Johnson.I just wish Kirk would let Lester do his thing and not play so damn conservatively with any sort of lead. Actually on the two goaline possesions they needed to be somewhat conservative and run the dang ball instead of Cade chucking it 5 feet above recievers headI just wish Kirk would let Lester do his thing and not play so damn conservatively with any sort of lead. I can't remember but I can remember multiple times when the opposite happened - a QB was benched because he played too aggressively or even scored when he was just supposed to run clock.Just how bad does a QB have to be before Kirk pulls him? I'm trying to think of the last time our coached benched a QB during a game for poor performance.
Yep. 2014. The Seven-win-kid kept his starting position over the better choice who made the mistake of scoring and thus embarrassing Iowa's rival. I also remember a terrible punter who kept his job because his father was on the board of regents. Soooooo many inconvenient stories memory-holed over the years.I can't remember but I can remember multiple times when the opposite happened - a QB was benched because he played too aggressively or even scored when he was just supposed to run clock.
And Stanzi being benched for Christensen before that. That was the Pitt game where if memory serves we were up at half, Stanzi scored or tried to after being told to run clock and hold on to the ball, then he wasn't seen again in the second half of a loss.Yep. 2014. The second half last week was fools good. If people watched it vs just seeing we scored some points it's clear Mac didn't do a whole lot. The one TD to Vander Zee was poor choice and lucky outcome.Very concerned about Cade’s passing game. We got a hint last week when he threw into traffic. We lucked out with a TD but still not good. C'mon Fran. Did the offense look any different than when the Ferentz boys were running it? If Lester has any balls, money aside, he will get out of dodge as soon as it's feasible, unless he is on the same page as Kirk like his past few OCs. Maybe that's how he got the job in the first place. We have heard that KF is letting Lester run the offense. If so, maybe Lester will make the QB change.
For the big decisions? KF obviously made the choice to go for 2 when he should have went for 1.
I wonder how much Cade has cost us in NIL money.....
well, we've seen that he won't be!we were told that KF was letting Lester run the offense.....if Lester thinks Cade needs to be replaced, I hope KF is on board
I certainly won't disagree with you. But there has been a lot of suspicious injuries over the years. And Stanzi being benched for Christensen before that. That was the Pitt game where if memory serves we were up at half, Stanzi scored or tried to after being told to run clock and hold on to the ball, then he wasn't seen again in the second half of a loss.
Rastetter played because the "real" punter who would have been starting over him was perpetually injured, but yes his great-uncle being on the BOR was an eyebrow-raiser.

Actually Lester DID do his thing in the RZ and it directly led to FG's IIRC. Traditionally, we get 'goal to go' and run, run, run, but w/out checking the tape it seemed we passed more in those situations. Overall, we got too cute which is so anti Kirk in some situations. Namely, the first goal to go just get KJ in there vs Moulton as we he was stuffed for loss and changed that whole drive. Then, the ridiculous call of 3rd q, 1st and 10 at the +42 and we run some sort of waggle and throw against the grain? We didn't zig when they zagged, they knew we would try a shot there, just toss sweep and get some points and really any point there game over.I just wish Kirk would let Lester do his thing and not play so damn conservatively with any sort of lead.
