"Cade gives us our best chance out there." --Oct 22 KF Press Conf & Player Availability. Stephens & Ostrenga OUT; Castro (ankle) & Entringer IN

arrogant - absolutely. Idiot - no, he is not an idiot. Quite the opposite. His pride and stubbornness keeps him from being an elite coach.

I think the one thing that will always puzzle/haunt fans is this:

ELITE defense (time after time)

ELITE special teams (time after time)

WTF offense (time after time)

What's the downside of playing Sullivan? You're 4-3 with 5 games to go.

Time to turn the page.

“Cade has to play better”.

Ya think, Kirk? Just when do you expect that to happen? Huh? Granted, this is only Cade’s SIXTH YEAR and the Hawks have only played 7 games so far this season so it’s too early to tell. And any chance at the Big Ten Championship and playoffs has already been p*ssed away. Just needs more time, right? I’m sure he’ll be in “game shape” by the time the season ends.

Unbelievable.

The Deshaun Lee situation is baffling. How does a guy go from starting three games with decent success to not seeing the field after what we witnessed last Saturday? There has to be more there than just it being Phil’s decision.

Lee is not quite on Harris’ level at CB, but compared to Nestor out there, he is Cooper DeJean.

Agree. He's light years better than his replacements. No idea what's going on there.

And let's realize it wasn't really a bone headed throw. He was going down and if it's an incomplete pass the ball is back at the 1. There was nothing to lose since he was throwing it. It did start out going forward. It was an attempt to keep the ball near the goal line. It didn't work, but nothing was lost. If it was deemed "grounding" then it's the same result.

In the game thread, I think the reaction was mostly "WTF are you doing???"

It was boneheaded in the sense that it’s what exactly Kirk doesn’t want to see out there. That’s what will keep Sullivan off of the field in a Kirk ran offense.

Strip sacks, misread INTs, horribly inaccurate passes, going three and out repeatedly are fine for Kirk. If you make a mistake trying to make a play, especially when you’re already guaranteed three points, you’ll be benched quicker than a stud RB who fumbled once.

5,000,000,000 : 1. The odds that Sullivan would be named the starter for NW. We all knew it. Iowa will be just good enough to beat NW, so we'll be back to there being no reason to change QB if you're winning. See how it goes?!

Yeah, don't put Sullivan in on 3rd and 1 because he didn't just do it last week against Washington. Oh, that's right, he did. Kirk's having a hard time following his own logic. Facts always seem to get in the way.

"Cade has to play better." Not to nitpick, but did anyone ask him, "What if he doesn't?" Unless Lester says that it is his decision alone to play McNamara, I will not believe it.

A better question is what if he can't play better, because we're halfway through the season and it's obvious that this is as good as he gets. Simply saying he has to play better isn't a potential solution to anything. The whole thing is ludicrous.

Sort of the other side of the question, but the answer would be the same. Effectively, it's good enough. Next.

I stole this from an X reply to Kirk's presser. Thought it was hilarious.

I keep telling the possum that is eating my tomatoes that he “has to” stop. But he doesn’t, and I’m not changing anything in my garden, so he keeps eating my tomatoes.

That’s horticulture!

Interesting that Northwestern is ranked really poorly in pass defense.

Therefore, Cade SHOULD look good; however, his accuracy likely won't be any better.

Lester should decide who gives the offense the best chance to move the ball.

Note the "whether it's him or somebody else...." comment.

I am not holding my breath even though the door appears to be slightly open for a QB change....

The problem with having Cade be named the starter this week means he's getting all the #1 reps this week. So if Cade shits the bed on Sat in the 1st half, Sullivan got no prep work and has to go in cold and looks like shit, and KF can say "see, told you". Which tells us nothing because Sullivan wouldn't have gotten any #1 reps. I would just like to see 1 week where the change is made, the backup gets all the #1 reps to prepare, and then you put him out there on Sat. Then, if he shits the bed on Sat, no one can say anything. But god forbid he lights it up.....then KF looks like an idiot. Honestly, there's literally nothing left to lose because it's all been lost 7 games in.

Don't worry. Kirk isn't making any in game changes short of injury.

he was a little less defensive of the QB and the offense. It takes losses for him to change course. It always has. That's normal for a coach. But everyone on the outside could see this coming. Eventually a really bad unit will catch up to you.

Be different if they actually ate a couple and wandered off, BUT nooooooooo they take one bite out of every single tomato. Kinda like if a QB had an off game but played lights out the rest of the time, one could deal with that.
