"Cade gives us our best chance out there." --Oct 22 KF Press Conf & Player Availability. Stephens & Ostrenga OUT; Castro (ankle) & Entringer IN

Im over thinking that the backup QB is better. I dont think anybody on that staff knows what a good QB looks like. the only hope is that Lester has a chance to recruit his own guys and coach his offense. I put that chance at 30 percent under KF.

At least Lester has started cleaning up the QB room

I really would like to hear Lester come out and say this: "I agree 100% with Kirk; Cade gives us the best chance right now."

My gawd! How many years are we going to have to listen to this same garbage from Kirk? Someone get the smelling salts so perhaps the captain can actually come to his senses before he retires (He will have to retire eventually, right? Right?!?)

I think he is working with what he inherited. His schemes are light years ahead of what has been. He needs time to buy the groceries and cook. If he is allowed.

KOK butted heads with KF more than what has ever been reported. 100 fact.

Imo he should have been gone a long time ago. Now, if I was BG I would figure out how to force him to retire. They missed the BF opportunity.
We'll see how aggressive Beth is. If pictures of Kirk with a couple of hookers come out over the coming months, we'll know that she's serious.

It was NOT a forward pass. It was a lateral, and had his knee not been down it would have been a turnover. It was not grounding. It went backward from the time it left his hand, hence a lateral. I don't see how you can say that was not a poor decision.
No, I watched it several times. It initially went forward. It doesn't matter what it does after it bounces on the ground.

Really? Pretty sure they called it a fumble before replay showed his knee hit the ground. If it was ruled a forward pass on the field then why did they say it was Washingtons ball before the review?

I never said what it was ruled. That's irrelevant for this discussion. What I know is that the ball initially went forward in the air. If his knee had not hit the ruling would have centered around it's aspect as a pass, whether incomplete or grounding.

Yea expect Him to give His Boss grounds for termination ? Go punch Your Boss or Co Worker in the throat in the morning and see how that goes or is it only Lester You want to commit career suicide?

We'll just agree to disagree. I don't believe the ball was moving forward. Also the call on the field is most certainly NOT irrelevant. If they hadn't ruled AFTER replay that his knee was down, then they would have reverted to the call on the field which was a fumble (by lateral) and washingtons ball....

What's irrelevant is whether "lateral" was the correct call or not.

I sure remember it to have been a lateral. But either way, it was an awful decision by BS.

Don't let that get in the way of fan narratives though

I said it was irrelevant to our discussion, that is, whether in actuality it was moving forward.

I invite you to go back and watch carefully. It was moving forward, barely, but enough.

If he's thinking he's throwing a forward pass, and in turns out it was, then it wasn't necessarily an awful decision. The ball gets put back at the 1 (or whatever it was). That's closer than where he ended up. And if it's called grounding then, well, it's at where it ended up.

Yes, you already stated this.

That fact that he made a play close enough to be called a lateral made it a terrible decision.

Guys don't necessarily have the best control over where the ball is going when they throw it as they are being yanked to the turf. That's why you don't do it. 100%, BS should have ate that ball

It was definitely a forward pass. The ball was released near the 8 1/2 yard line and landed beyond the 8 yard line, around the 7 1/2 area.

A KF presser is always on the list of "Things That Are A Waste Of Time".
The part I find hilarious is that people act like most coaches aren’t like this, or at least try to be. Especially during in-season pressers, their goal is to say as little as possible.

Thankfully he was down so it’s a moot point. I didn’t look closely when I rewatched but live it looked close and was ruled a fumble on the field so the replay would have had to overrule it. Those are so dependent on camera angles, so unless it was clearly ahead of the release point it would have been tough to overturn.

Ruled down of course so it never got to that point.

Last game wasn't an exception. In every game this season, McNamara has missed multiple throws that competent high school QBs make routinely. He has also mixed in a few really bad decisions that resulted in interceptions. If, in fact, Sullivan is performing as poorly in practice as McNamara does in games, it's going to be very ugly (sub .500) next year after losing Johnson and the heart of the defense.

The fact that KF says they have seen enough good things out of Cade, who is 3rd to last in the Big Ten as a QB, tells you all you need to know about the low expectations and standards he has for the QB position.
Again, what exactly are you expecting Kirk to say during these pressers? He’s VERY rarely been negative towards a player publicly in his career, he’s not going to start now.

I’m not defending how he’s handled the qb position, his resistance to change at that position vs how he handles any other spot on the roster has long perplexed me. But how posters here seem to be getting angry for essentially not throwing Cade under the bus and instead saying positive things in front of the microphone confuses me. It’s like you’ve never seen him talk to the press.

And again, most coaches publicly will handle it the exact same way.

He doesn't need to say anything that he and everyone knows to be untrue. He said Cade needs to play better, and then he says he's done enough good things. Cade can't play better and he has not done enough good things this year. Everyone knows that. Why say it? The only reason to play Cade today is if he is the best they've got today. Whether it's accurate or not, I can only assume that's what Kirk believes or he wouldn't be playing. Leave it at that.

I think it could be explained by the sunk cost fallacy, too. Kirk took a suspension for Cade. He's invested in more ways than one.

Again tho, you’re expecting plain speech that would effectively throw players under the bus in public. Kirk doesn’t do that, nor do most coaches who are worth a damn.

Nope. Not necessary to throw anyone under the bus. Just don't spout nonsense that everyone knows isn't true or based in reality.

Well, has Cade done good things this year? Not enough of them, but yes, he has. Does Cade need to play better? Also yes.

These are not mutually exclusive.

"Terrible decision" is pretty harsh. Especially since it's not like he sat and pondered it. It sure didn't end up as a terrible decision.

And if reviewed for that aspect it would have been judged as a forward pass, which is what he was trying to do.

I think it was a good split-second decision. He has a quick mind.

Well, enough of that topic for me.

He should just have someone place a tape recorder on the podium of past news conferences and save time.
I've commented a few times over the years something similar.
My suggestion has been to have recordings of 3 or 4 classic KF phrases like "That's football" and "Need to get a few things cleaned up." Then set up a cardboard cutout of Captain GumChew at the podium. The final step is have a student assistant randomly play one of those phrases in response to a question.

I REALLY hope they have a succession plan in place
