CJ Signs w/ Kentucky. Iowa Claiming Tampering? Level II Violation when 3rd Party Contacts a School When Athlete Discussed Enrolled at Another School

Look at my orig post. Those tweets are all from Kentucky sports media people.

The Kentucky media knew the Fredrick camp and Kentucky were talking in February; that's a Level II NCAA violation. So, it's pretty clear the tampering has been going on for over 2 months, which I am sure Fran is now fully aware and fully pissed off about.
If Fran really didn't know about it, shame on him and staff.

Bingo. The kid is leaving a dead on the vine program for his home state blue blood. We would have all made the same choice.

No I would not. If it equates to a clear and guaranteed path to the nba, then I would consider it for a minute before declining. But truth is he will be doing all this damage just to play the same roll Moss did at Kansas. Worth it to you?

yeah; he is going from a starter to a role player coming off the bench

and look at all the bridges he has burned in the process

Fran, CJ, and Uncle Joe Fredrick (who Fran coached at Notre Dame).

What Mike Hlas & Pat Harty have reported regarding last Wed Apr 14's Fran Press Conference tell me Fran was blind sided, @Moral

And I saw Pat Harty write this about last Wed, Apr 14's press conference: Fran McCaffery is either an incredible actor, or he wasn’t worried about Fredrick leaving the program at the time.

CJ had just 9 offers:

Iowa
Nebraska
Xavier
Miami (OH)
Ball State
Lipscomb
Northern Kentucky
William & Mary
Winthrop
1. According to 247sports.com, this list is incorrect. CJ got offers from Penn St and Indiana too.

Penn St Offer

Indiana Offer

2. CJ committed to Iowa in August before his senior year, and officially signed on Nov 8 his senior season. Who's going to offer somebody who's already signed that early? How many offers did PMac get? One, because he committed *really* early.

Is Iowa insinuating that there was tampering?

LOL. Of course there was, not that Iowa can do anything about it unless someone would testify that this occurred. I seriously doubt that anyone from CJ's family would, and I know that the boosters at KY are not going to talk. The tweets and such are just hearsay so they would not hold water. Iowa got burned.

Nothing more they can do unless someone suddenly gets a conscience. It would be funny if this ended up getting Cal in hot water. Oh, I would love that! But I am not holding my breath.

Not sure if you read the article linked in the orig post but Syracuse was not happy with what transpired w/ one of its players & went after Seton Hall.

Is Fran/Iowa pissed enough to do the same? The tweet seems too passive aggressive.

And his family received impermissible benefits from an Iowa booster while he was at Iowa.

Tampering.
Impermissible benefits.

It was like UNLV of the 80s and 90s!

I know nothing of the JU situation. However, while I think many coaches do try to stay clean, anyone who thinks that most schools don't have at least minor rules violations that never come out are sticking their heads in the sand.

It's part of the reason I'm good with the new transfer rules and the likely upcoming NIL rulings. Favor the student athletes and let everyone else scramble to figure it out.

(And yes, FTR, screw the NCAA)

It is but, again, there is only so much Iowa can do unless someone gets a conscience. Ain't going to happen.

i know fran has said in the past he reports schools if he hears of recruiting violations. If he’s aware of tampering, i think he at least pursues it

None if this matters. I fully believe there was communication. Who started it, I don't know but the NCAA won't do jack so it doesn't matter.
Amend the rule that no PTPers can transfer. You become a PTP, you’re stuck.

CJ can go to hell along with Kentucky.

That's great... but the NCAA won't do anything. I want the kids who are transferring and there programs they go to illegally to get buried but nothing will happen.

For the record, I love that Fran doesn't go chasing portal guys. This year is different obviously but if a guy comes to Iowa, I want them to know they have been invested in (and vice versa). I'll roll with that integrity and lose than do this other crap.

i think Fran is leery of the portal guys because he 1st wants to vet them & make sure they are a good locker room fit. Last thing you want is to bring in a cancer that destroys the team chemistry

Its far more likely that Fran just sat down with CJ, after the season, to see where he stood on multiple of issues. Entering the transfer portal was probably a main topic of conversation.

Fran is honest with his players. He expects the same in return.

CJ clearly was deceptive and not honest in this process. The announcement that CJ was leaving (one sentence) AND the tweet by UI Compliance pretty much clarify that.

Oh, and remember Patrick's tweet about what is done in the dark will come to light?

This was sleezy all the way around. And Coach Cal was involved? No surprise.

The FBI / Adidas investigation made it very clear that there are all kinds of shit going on where the head coach and school are untouchable if they get caught.

Sure, there may be NCAA rules, but nobody is following them because the NCAA is not enforcing them.
I know a coach who was caught red-handed by the FBI with the Addidas scandal.

Dude got a lifetime contract out of it!

What did the media talking heads criticizing the NCAA transfer rules expect? The transfer portal is the result of relentless criticism of restrictions on player movement. The tampering and recruiting of players off of college rosters is completely predictable. For Dickie V to be surprised at this demonstrates complete myopia and an inability to think through the consequences of rash policy changes.
