Congrats to Iowa State

I've been on this board since 2007 - nice try. Show me proof of why you think the Big 12 is the worst conference, all I'm asking for. I'll wait.
Sorry bud, I can't help you. I don't have arbitrary or subjective numbers like you do because I don't believe in them. I can only lead you to water. If it's not already obvious to you by merely witnessing their play and knowing that they're all historically poor teams to use as a guideline; that's where you're at. How do you argue with someone who obviously has limited knowledge of football about football? You're not going to agree with me. You've already made the division line. No point proceeding. Just ignore me.

Anyway, it's all good. Enjoy your conference championship.

I can’t ignore you, I’m intrigued in your stubborn inability to recognize your own blinders. I’ll end the convo for the sake of the thread.

This exact prediction was touted on this board in all of the last 3 conference alignments since 2012, and have been incorrect all 3 times.
The Lil12 is far weaker than they were in 2012......losing by FAR their biggest assets in Texas & Oklahoma. Both the SEC & Big10 have gotten way stronger since that time.

It's only a matter of time before the big 2 get fed up with the little bro conferences getting an auto-bid, only to have their teams get blasted in the playoffs. Enjoy any success the Clowns have while you can......cause their days are numbered.

lol…isu didn’t “kick” Iowa’s ass this year!?! Iowa dominated first half and gave it away in 2nd half with stupid play calling. Isu wins on a last second field goal.
To MAY to........To MAW to. You get beat at home, that's your ass getting kicked IMHO. You can call it whatever you'd like.

Even in a weak division, we still had crossover games from the East. PLUS there was almost always a legit top 5 team in our championship game.

Your dogs!t conference features 2 mediocre teams in the championship….either of which will get steamrolled in the playoffs. Keep puffing your chest little bro & we’ll keep laughing at you.
Iowa has INFAMOUSLY had some of the weakest schedule in college football this past decade...and I guess we'll see who is and is not mediocre. Laugh away while you're at home watching the College playoffs...with Iowa State battling for the national championship IN the playoffs.

Iowa got its ass kicked against Nebraska and still found a way to win. Iowa State definitely didn’t do anything of the sort to Iowa this year.

Gotta love the ISU fans who flock to this board strutting and puffing their chest whenever things are going well, and acting like the Clones are suddenly a top team and a force to be reckoned with going forward.

I still remember their BEST TEAM EVER just a few short years ago.

“ISU battling for a national championship.” I literally laughed out loud when I read that.

UI Athletic Department is so far in debt with no public plan for repayment that will catch up with them...and the Big 10 might decide to kick the poor to the curb and invite a school that has an athletic dept that can support itself.

This is my whole point, Iowa isn't on the same level as 4-5 other teams in the Big 10 and never will be. How would we ever consistently be in the top 4 in the new Big 10 to play in the post-season? Just look at the schedule next year, Vegas will likely have our win total around 6. That is the new reality - but hey, at least we're getting more TV money.
That is why Ferentz has to be regarded more highly by Ipowa’s fan base. The guy has found a way to win a lot of football games consistently working with what he has to work with. His philosophy is certainly “conservative”….but when executed it is effecgtive as hell. Again……instead of kicking Kirk in the nads, give him the credit he has EARNED. And he has earned a bunch of credibility.

But we used to be competitive in big games. That hasn’t been the case for at least three or more years now.

Battling for a national championship is a huge stretch right now; but ISU is playing in the Big 12 title game - that in itself is really cool. Any ISU fan who suffered through the 80's + 90's should be ecstatic right now. I never thought I would see a 10-2 ISU team.

The best thing is that ISU will have a decent shot moving forward to do this on a regular basis. Hawk fans will attribute that to the Big 12 being an inferior conference, etc. Fine. Whatever the case, ISU is in a better position to make the CFP than Iowa. It's hard to see Iowa winning the Big 10, or even being in the top 3 or 4. Will they ever catch Oregon, Ohio State, or Penn State NIL-wise? Probably not. You have to think Michigan, Washington, and USC will return to form?
There are 6 teams right there.

Time will tell, but ISU is in a good spot.

It will be interesting to see what the CFP evolves into. I have a hard time believing they will EVER exclude the Big 12, AAC, or Mountain West. By making it the SEC/Big 10 invitational, you will eliminate a lot of viewers. I say that knowing full well that $$$ talks, and the CFP is more about $$$ than anything else. Imagine the backlash on Sunday if/when (probably when) a 3 loss SEC team gets in over "somebody else". I hope that the CFP sets a precedent in year one and keeps a 3 loss Alabama team (for example) out. Unlikely, but we can always hope.

I have always said, select your 12 teams, then seed them 1-12. You need to be rewarded for winning your conference. That may or may not earn you a bye.

I'm just going to enjoy the Arizona State game on Saturday. Winnable game, but who knows? Anything beyond that is just too crazy to imagine right now.

Uh...

Are you sure you don't have Iowa and ISU mixed up?

Iowa is one of only 6 athletic departments that are entirely self-sustaining off of it's football program alone. Our football program funds our entire department with money to spare currently. ISU is entirely the opposite of that.

I don't understand this post.

Public record on UI Athletic Dept debt. In total almost a quarter billion dollars ($235 M).

That includes $50M loaned by the University to the Athletic dept during COVID. The loan wasn't unusual....many other schools did the same thing. Most of the other athletic depts have paid most or all back. Not Iowa....they still owe the University almost $48M and the college wants/needs that money back.

Oh shit, yeah I see that. Well, I'd imagine that the media deal will help to lower that relatively quickly no?

ISU fans would NEVER congratulate Iowa.

I froze my behind off and was in attendance for Iowa/Nebraska in 2015. Used to go to an away Iowa game every year with a bunch of friends before we all had kids. There are literally thousands of Iowa State fans that are very happy for their Iowa fan friends and Iowa’s success.

You know, that is interesting. I was listening to the local radio last Wednesday and an ISU caller was talking about how he wanted Iowa to beat Nebby badly. I was surprised honestly. He was saying how he actually rooted for Iowa outside of the ISU game in every game. He especially hates Nebraska, which I understood. You guys have had to deal with them too obviously.

You really don't hear that kind of mutual thinking that much from our side now that I think about it. I mean in real life and not on here. I can't recall honestly ever hearing a Hawk fan say they root for ISU. Hmm.

To be fair, you guys definitely have your fair share of assholes too though, as we all do.

The Cornholers have only been part of the Big 10 for 13 yrs....Clone fans have had to deal with uber arrogant Nebby fans much longer plus their arrogance was a whole different level with their 5-6 National Titles in the 70s-90s.

Fvck the bugeaters!

Hawk fan for 65+ years but I root for Iowa teams when not playing Hawks including Clones. I guess because I am a native Iowan, and I root for Iowa teams/players.

Iowa State and Iowa have about the same probability of winning a national title right now. That being said, only one program is actively alive in that pursuit which must be fun for ISU fans and they get to play in a conference title game where they have a realistic chance of winning. That’s something Iowa hasn’t experienced for almost a decade.

There isn’t a single team in their dogs!t conference that has even a remote chance to win it all. I’ll take being in a real conference every day & twice on Sunday.

But isn't a little part of you kind of jealous that ISU appears to be in a stronger position to make the CFP going forward than Iowa?
This year? Yes.

Long term, possibly no, given the eventual change in the landscape and even the CFP. If P2 becomes somewhat “codified” in the CFP, and as was mentioned previously, the Texas and OK $ increase their NIL effectiveness for talent acquisition. All TBD.

One thing is for sure, hats off to ISU for not squandering an opportunity. We had our opportunity as well, and controllable, as well as uncontrollable, events were at best not overcome, at worst squandered.

I go the other way.

Big 12 should drop to 8 conference games and schedule 4 auto wins in the conference.

SMU went 11-1, losing to BYU. Their best win is what, Pitt? They are rated higher than any Big 12 team. Same with Boise State. Best thing to do in the current format is win as many games as possible, who cares about the schedule.
I tend to agree with this, given The CFP Committee (of subjective humans), don’t seem to place enough emphasis on SOS versus computer SOS evaluations. At the end of the day, the CFP is a subjective, CFP invitational, and the faster we recognize that as fans, more quickly we can return to enjoying college football. In potentially disadvantaged non-P2 FBS conferences, your idea probably isn’t terrible to explore. It would definitely put some teams in a better opportunity than mid-tier P2 teams.

The only, fairly objective, CFP would be the FBS conference champions square off. Alas, with P2 (and $), that ship has sailed.

A long time ago I saw a list for the B1G, and the last tie-breaker was a coin flip.
😂 In current times, could you imagine the circus that would be in the B1G HQ?!? Media would descend upon the meeting of the coin flip. DEI officers would be debating the sex, race, etc. of the coin flipper. Physicists would be weighing and evaluating the coin and technique used. Lawsuits filed on the need for additional flips in the interest of fairness and contesting the subconscious fan bias of the flipper.

Kirk, in the corner, quietly chewing gum, wishing he weren’t there, whispering under his breath, “that’s football.” 😂
