I for one am pleased with this class. Well done gentlemen.

Looks like a good class...time to get the boys on campus, pack the muscle on, and
coach them up!

It strikes me as a high-ceiling class. Lots of very projectable frames with good athleticism. The amount of TE/LB/DE/DT/OT frames are high. Time to start lifting and eating.

The have some particularly nice facilities to use for that.

Since most of them were early recruits, the coaches seem to have gained much of what they wanted this year. Last year's success will hopefully show up in 2017...already seems to be a good start for that class. Maybe we can corral a few more 4*'s as the recruiting year goes on. 9th is not very impressive after the season we had, but I like the long term look of this recruiting class. No class can really be evaluated for success until they have been in place for about 3 years.

I "was" a frequent poster. Years ago. I have followed but have fell away. Expectations of how well an 18 year old can perform at such an elite level by "some" of you is truly astonishing. I was a division 2 baseball player. My son is a junior college baseball player and working on moving to his "area of education" BUT won't give up his dream of continuing his college baseball career. He has multiple offers to continue. My daughter was a first team all state softball player and signed with Northwestern College. You can even look on the website if you wish to or if you feel more highly of yourself then by all means do what you have to. I get frustrated by some of you and how star struck you are. Why can't you respect the fact that we are Iowa and this "REALLY" is who we are? I'm okay with middle class and blue collar workers. They get the job done. I really don't give a rip what they want to rank Iowa. I love this class and truly feel they fit the Iowa way. I love heart, sweat, determination and pure love for the game. I believe that the Iowa Hawkeye staff is recruiting that player. Jesse Owens was quoted, "We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort." I do really appreciate everybody's opinions and love for The Iowa Hawkeyes on this board, no matter our difference in opinion.

38th or so class. In other words a typical KF class. I had hoped we might do better after this year but was not surprised.

This is not a class that gets you in true contention for conference championships.

This team this year clearly overachieved; things went right for 12 games and 59 minutes.

Then we went up against a team that regularly recruits in the top 20 and got what anyone with a realistic brain thought we would get- a true butt whooping by a superior talented team that had a full month to prepare for us.

This recruiting class will change none of that.

At a glance this class is a little underwhelming. Mid-40's in the NCAA, 9th in the Big Ten. Our highest rated recruit is a 3 star.

BUT, that is unfair for me to say because they haven't even stepped on campus yet. Obviously this coaching staff knows more about what they want in a teammate and a player than any of us do. We want 5 stars. They want results. It will be more fair to judge this class in 4 years. Hopefully it can produce 10+ wins and a bowl victory.

You can't ever "really" judge a recruiting class until they've all graduated, but it's safe to say when you land the classes like Alabama and Ohio State often do, you have to really screw up as a Coaching Staff not to make a serious run at Conference and National Championships.

That said, ranked in the 40's and 50's will typically get you what Iowa had prior to a unimaginable 12-0 regular season, which anyone with a clue realizes was a by-product of the schedule. That said, the boys did what they needed to do with the pressure mounting every week to keep it going, and they were able to do a great job until the resounding THUD in the Rose Bowl. I would gladly take lower ranked recruiting classes if our bad years were 7-8 wins, followed by a few 9-10 win seasons. I did honestly feel that the regular season Hawkeyes could play with anybody, and feel the Rose Bowl was a complete aberration. We certainly have something to look forward to this year even though the schedule gets tougher, but I think we'll fare well regardless. Ohio State is the only team I don't typically like the Hawks to face, they beat us on a regular basis, competitive games most of the time it seems, but can't get the W very often. They're just always a fricking load.

The REAL key to this class and every recruiting class you have, is IF you got yourself a bona-fide Big Ten Quarterback. C.J.Beathard will make a lot of his teammates look better, the good ones always do.

I get your point in the second half of the post, but what was the point of dropping your "credentials" before getting to it? Congrats on your kids and all, just not sure the humble brag added anything

I think the biggest dividends for this past season in recruiting will happen this year. Most of this class was committed before the season or early on and so when people say it didn't help, you can't for sure say that. The 2017 class is off to a good start with and another solid season should help build on that.

Like others said though this is your typical Iowa class. Bunch of kids that maybe weren't big names on the recruiting front, but a handful of them will be All conference players and end up in the NFL. Pretty typical of what happens at Iowa.

This class was pretty complete before the season started. IMO 4 & 5 stars are generally more ready to see the field immediately, but the right 3 star may have an equal ceiling.

We've got time for these kids to develop and as importantly they've got teammates who've had success teaching and pushing them.

We had one fantastic season! Congrats Hawks and welcome aboard new Hawks!

Have you ever gone back to look at the class rank of your fellow students coming out of High School? This doesn't determine how successful one will be in life - a lot of other components that go into it. Same is to be said with Recruiting Rankings - easy to give a high rating on a fast 40 time prospect but much more will go into the overall success of the prospect. Iowa Football does as well as anyone in evaluating these "intangibles". We lose a lot of Ranking Games but have won a lot of Football Games over the years with this formula.

I believe I heard them talk on BTN about how Iowa won't really see any of the affects from the undefeated season on recruiting until next year. Like already posted on here, the majority of the recruits committed to Iowa before the undefeated season so it had no bearing on this class. Hopefully it will really affect next years recruiting class.

I like the class this year as it looks like a lot of players that fit the Iowa mold. I don't think Iowa is looking specifically for 5 and 4 star players but more for kids that fit the Iowa system. A 5 start kid can come in and underwhelm very easily.

Still wondering where the skilled playmakers are ... especially the desperately needed wide receivers who can get separation and make difficult catches against quality opponents.

Great post. Iowa doesn't need any of these kids to come in and contribute immediately. A few will probably see some PT but won't see meaningful minutes. Some of these guys have the chance to be very good. A Jackson has played football for 2 years. Signed several big versatile guys. Get them in the program, get them set in a position and let them learn their craft.

We have the benefit of another favorable schedule next season, so 10 wins is probable. Hopefully the staff will finally step up recruiting efforts.

I'm kinda with this. We won't really know for a few years. 9th seems a little harsh. Wadley, Canzeri and Daniels. According to rivals there was a 3 star and a pair of 2 stars in that mix. The 2-star guys both had conf. games with over 200 yards and they had a higher per-carry avg than the 3 star guy. Now I'm not bashing Daniels he showed flashes of his own with a near 200-yard game. All I'm saying is it's a crap-shoot how the classes will turn out. Like others, I'm really excited for where this 2017 class ranks. In that regard recruiting is getting better and we can smile about that.

Take a look what happened to OSU this year. Turmoil in house. They did not live up to their potential, probably because they did not have team players. They had talent, and now 7-8 of those "talented" players are going to the NFL early. Iowa will have 7-8 players that have 1 more year of development compared to OSU. That can balance the scale out some.

Where Iowa often falls down is at WR. They (Theeeee Almighty OSU, Bitchigan, buyArecruitBama, and others) often get the 4-5 star WR's who can play right away. Iowa rarely has that elite WR to throw to.

Iowa shouldn't have to rely on this past or any undefeated season. Recruiting is a sales job that takes time to influence kids. The better the talent the more resources you dedicate. You don't want to play that game, you play at the margins, the 2 and 3 star recruits level. Don't have to work that much, you spend one or 2 years per recruit and as long you son enough games to keep your fan base happy, so what?

Iowa deserves better. A prime example; there is no reason why a roster so deficient in WRs was filled the way it was. Early offers to lightly recruited players. We are in need of talent to compete.

"iowa deserves better"...Why? because you say so? 5 Top 10 finishes during Kirk's tenure. You are just another fan that thinks because you like a team they should win National Titles or else you don't feel good about yourself. Why don't MN, WI, NE, IL, MO, CO, and on and on deserve better?

Then it sounds to me like another traditional Hawkeye team going back through the Hayden Fry years. You might want to consider becoming a Buckeye fan if you have lofty recruiting and national champion aspirations. Better recruiting class apparently did not help Michigan State against Alabama.

People who thought we'd get a bump this year weren't paying attention. As others have mentioned, but as those who posted after them apparently have not seen, the class was nearly complete before September. The only way to improve upon the level of recruits would have been to cut loose some commitments to make room for big fish. That, to most, is unethical.

It's next year's class that should improve based upon our increased stature in the 2015 season. We're off to an incredible start with next year's class.

I don't care what anythone wants to think but this is the hard truth. High school kids care about flashy uniforms, they care about seeing a team go undefeated, they care about what the campus looks like and they care about state of the art facilities. You may call them shallow but that's what they think about.

Iowa will get a lot of recruits solely because of coaching, recruiting and focusing on hard work but if you want those recruits that the other schools are getting you're going to have to offer more.

I can't remember where I saw it cause I'm old, but our recruiting budget was roughly $100K less than Iowa State. Those that are anti Kirk often use his salary as a topic, but this hasn't been raised with the same concerns. This was a national rating and if you've seen it pls help me by linking it.

I just have higher standards than you do. Nothing for you to be proud of.

I don't understand how some of you can judge kids who have yet to start college much less get out the field and play. Recruiting class rankings are not nearly as important as winning games.
its called reality. Why is Alabama always in the hunt year in and year out? Its recruiting. You can try and play ostrich all you want.

sounds like you just want to make excuses.
