Coronavirus

Thank God Trump is president during this Pandemic...had Clinton been President would have been “No Travel Ban” & we would have lost critical time that Trump used to “Overhaul” a broken testing system.

As for calling it a hoax, no disputing many (Democrats & Republicans alike) across the country were criticizing him when he initiated the travel ban & were saying into March we should be more concerned with the flu than covid 19...which in a sense was like calling the threat of covid 19 a hoax themselves. Trump putting on the travel ban proves he was taking the threat seriously at a time when others on both side were not. He used the critical time gained from travel ban to expedite overhauling our infectious disease testing system to make testing on a large scale possible. It has come a very long way in record time. Thank God he had the foresight not to believe what was being reported out of China & WHO. Everyone on the “Front Lines & Those Working Diligently Behind The Scenes” deserve our gratitude for the job they have done & continue to do. Has everyone done a “Perfect Job”...no, but they have done extraordinarily well under the circumstances.

We have two candidates to choose from in the upcoming election...one has proven to put “America First” while the other candidate has proven he likes to put “His Family’s Wealth First” at the expense of our our great nation.

Now let’s put politics aside & get back to talking “Basketball”.
Holy shit. Lol.

Better to ignore these idiots!

It absolutely did.

One nurse made a video explaining how she was responsible for 14 ICU patients.
"Normal" times, they are responsible for 1-2; 3 in a pinch.

You cannot claim they were not "overrun" and assert 14 ICU patients per ICU nurse is "normal". That's simply nonsense.

First, "overrun" was used in the context of hospital beds being outnumbered by Chinese Covid patients, plus other hospital requirements. That is the macro event that did not happen anywhere in the United States.

Second, you're citing one nurse who is talking about having an unusually heavy patient load, which is undoubtedly true in the New York/New Jersey metro area. That same metro area, however, still never ended up using the hospital beds available. Just like NY never used 40,000 ventilators, or even close to half that figure.

Basically all you're saying is one nurse in one facility had a period, which had to be brief given the overall excess hospital capacity in the area, during which she was very busy.

What a load of BALONEY.

Which part is baloney? Obviously I used "Black Death" as a rhetorical flourish. Neither I, nor I assume anyone reading my post would think the public health officials told the political leadership that bubonic plague was loose in the land.

The political leadership did not come up with any original data or information, the respective public health "scientists" told their political upchains that a pandemic was arising. Is that baloney? Do you think that the initial estimates of and information about Chinese Covid went the other way, from political leadership to the public health leadership?

If you think back, death numbers in the millions, with 50% mortality, were being floated around by public health officials, and the usual media suspects basing their estimates on "sources close to the CDC" kind of reporting? I'm willing to blame some of the exaggeration on the media, whose first instinct is "if it bleeds it leads" but the major projections were wrong by hundreds of percentages of error. For example, per original IMHE estimates April 15 should have seen around 8000 deaths per day; the actual number was 2194.

Yeah
It DID

Doctors in NY have told you that, firsthand. They had patients piled along hallways, waiting to get an actual bed. They ultimately started sending patients home to "self monitor", and hope they didn't develop critical illness and die in the meantime. Those are firsthand accounts.

Here are accounts that you can read about and compare to 1 story. What’s more dire?

Right. You sure have it all figured out, don't you?

Crazy people. Ignore them.
Here’s a suggestion. How about defending the position that Joe Biden’s drug abusing son was deserving of an 80k /month placeholder job in Ukraine and traveledto China on Air Force 2 with daddy and walked away with 1.5 billion from the Chinese for his new investment firm? Really quite revealing of the man with presenile dementia that would be president.

So why didn't the use the ship that was sent to them?

Can’t defend your boy so move to condescension. You do a lot of that.
Who? Okay. How about addressing the issue and not bringing up something completely unrelated?

You have your head so far up someone's butt that you can't see that you are totally in the dark.

USNS Comfort was NOT taking Covid-19 patients initially.[/QUOTE]

April 7th article USNS Comfort had already been converted to accept Covid patients...

The USNS Comfort DID NOT initially take on Covid-19 patients, because they were not set up to do so.

The Comfort docked at Pier 90 around 10:45 a.m. EST, after entering New York Harbor and continuing north along the Hudson River. Equipped with 1,000 beds, 80 additional ICU beds, 12 operating rooms, a blood bank, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, a CT scanner and radiology suites, the ship will offer 24-hour services to patients seeking medical attention unrelated to the new coronavirus.

USNS Comfort wasn't taking Covid-19 patients.

That isn’t what the article said & I quote:

At the time Tuchman sent his plea, only 134 of the 1,000 beds at the Javits Center were full and the Comfort — which had just been reconfigured to treat up to 500 COVID-19 patients — had a mere 62 on board

On April 30, the Comfort officially departed New York waters, according to ABC7 New York.

The USNS Comfort had strict restrictions as to who could be treated onboard: coronavirus-positive patients, as well as people with 49 other ailments, were not allowed onto the hospital ship.

Like I'd stated: they initially DID NOT allow them on, because the ship is very close quarters and was not set up to handle them.

Yes, initially accepting Covid positive patients were not what Comfort was brought to NY for...it was brought to handle non-Covid overflow.

Your previous post in Bold Red Lettering implied Covid patients were not intentionally allowed on the ship during its entire deployment in NY, which everyone who has been following any “Credible News Sources” knows is a “False Statement”.

My point is that very early on they converted Comfort to accept Covid Positive patients. The Comfort, combined with Java NY Governor had lots of resources available that he could have used for Covid Positive patients until the were no longer contagious instead of “Recklessly” mandating nursing home accept Covid Positive patients, which led to thousands of additional lives lost.

Yes. That was my point.

And I believe part of that "conversion" was after they'd already identified someone w/ the virus on the ship.

Will you agree the Comfort arrived in NY March 30 where it was initially designated for non-Covid patients. From April 6 thru April 30 when then Comfort departed N.Y. “It Was Designated For & Accepted Covid Patients”?

You are correct. It appears they did change the scope; treated upwards of 180 Covid-19 patients.

What does this have to with Iowa athletics?

During a one year period in 2009-10, 12,700 died of the swine flu, another pandemic that swept the globe. This was during the Obama administration. I don’t recall outrage from republicans over the administrations response. Rather, a more unified effort at control. In times of crisis, shouldn’t we be working together? What the Democrats are doing, along with the media that they control, is despicable.

Hey Doc: should "Dems" and others still sit back and pretend this response is competent, when we'll be hitting 100k within 3 months (and could easily clip a quarter million within the next year by next March).

Perhaps u didn't have the GOP "outraged" because that was actually a fairly low number for annual casualties.

Feel free to come back and comment now on where we're at, and STILL have virtually no WH leadership to coordinate things...
